Antenatal control must be initiated early andmaintained if it is to be effective.

The mother should seek health care before thethird month of pregnancy and continue toattend the clinic at the dates set by the healthservice, according to the degree of risk involvedin the pregnancy.

"Family Support Network" can help for instance,discussions aimed at dispelling doubts or fearsand taboos, advice on how to take care duringpregnancy, or helping to pay for the cost ofconsultations.

4. Good antenatal care.

First cause of malnutrition is usually inadequatefood intake, which is due to lack of purchasingpower.

Pregnant women have increased calorie andprotein requirements.

If these are not met, the baby's intrauterinedevelopment can be retarted, resulting in lowbirth weight.

5. Better sharing of thefamily food so as to improvethe expectant mother's diet.

Pregnant women who do heavy work put onless weight and have a higher percentage oflow-birth-weight babies than women with asimilar diet who are not subjected to excessivework.

To reduce the time and energy that pregnantwomen have to spend on work, the othermembers of the family, especially husbandsand plder children, must contribute to thehousework even if this means breaking withpatterns of behaviour that are very deep-rootedin most cultures.

Birth weight usually increases with birth rankbut after a large number of births-more thanfive- the chances of low birth weight areincreased.

Low birth weight can be attributed to themother's poor nutritional status and to whathas been called the "maternal exhaustionsyndrome".

This means that the intervals between birthsare too short, and do not give the motherenough time to replace the nutrients used inthe previous pregnancy.

7. Prevent adolescentpregnancy and ensureadequate birth spacingthrough family planning

measures.

Smoking invoves deliberate and repeatedexposure to a mixture of air and smokecontaining more than 4000 different chemicals,at least 30 of which have been recognised asharmful to health.

Smoking increases the risk of fetal death andintrauterine damage, results in a higherpercentage of low birth weight, and more often

predisposes the mother to complications.

Everyone should follow these important steps stated below to prevent low birth weight:

1. Good antenatal care. Among the most important aspects are to monitor the

growth of the fetus, to treat infections and other diseases, and to take practical

measures to prevent low birth weight.

2. Better sharing of the family food so as to improve the expectant mothers diet.

3. Ensure that pregnant women avoid heavy work, rest as much as possible and

avoid stress.

4. Prevent adolescent pregnancy and ensure adequate birth spacing through family

planning measures.

5. Give up smoking during pregnancy.

Sejarah unit. Im doing my Preparation Course of Bachelor of Education at IPGM

Kampus Tengku Ampuan Afzan, Kuala Lipis, Pahang.

First of all, I would like to thank my English Language Proficiency lecturer , Mr

Muralitharan for giving this assignment which helps me to improve and develop my

knowledge in English. I would like to thank him again for his help and explanations

about this coursework. He also taught me how to find information from different

resource. I also want to thank my parents, friends and everyone who helped me to

complete this assignment.

This assignment was given on 6th

August 2012. My assignment is on knowledge in

English. As an earlier preparation, on that day itself I accessed about the topic in

internet and also went to library to collect some information. After I have got some

information about it, I gathered all of them to make my own notes.

Then, I started to do my assignment with the notes that I have got. I also gotsome notes from my seniors and my beloved friends. For this coursework, I need to do

a presentation. I used all of the skill that I have learned during this semester and during

doing this work.

I have learned lot of things through this coursework. I realized that knowledge of

English is very important to a person in daily life. We have to develop our quality of

English for be a good teacher.
