Senior Project – 2014/2015 NAME:___________________Create a website Hour: ________

Stevenson seniors: Congratulations! You have come a long way to get to this point in your school career. You will have four weeks to design and create your Senior Project Website. This will count as 40% of your 4 th quarter grade. Stay focused and be creative! Good luck on the project and good luck to all in the future!

Senior Project Main Objective: Points: Final Due Date:Create a personal website using Weebly. 500 Friday, April 10, 2015

Website Theme/Big Idea: Civic and Personal Responsibility Social Responsibility Integrity VisionInnovation Hope Values Wisdom Action

Required Pages within the Website (in the following order):

Home Page (100 points) Blog Page (100 points) Personal Soundtrack Page (100 points) Portfolio Page (100 points) Literary Character Generator Page (100 points)

(Your grade is determined by the rubric, good old fashioned hard work and the WOW factor!)

Required Brainstorming Pages

All five (5) webpages require a brainstorming page worth 20 points each = 100 points. These will be checked on their due dates and entered in the gradebook as a classwork/homework grade.

Time:

I will be giving you 15 class periods to work on this project. If I assume you come to class, log on to the computers and get started, you should have 45 minutes each class period (on the low estimate). That means I am giving you nearly 12 HOURS, in class, to work on this project. This will give just enough time to complete all components. If you are not using every minute of your time productively you will be forced to complete components of this project on your own time (this means at home). You will be provided due dates for all components. You are responsible for completing each component by the set due date, REGARDLESS OF WHATEVER EXCUSE YOU TRY AND COME UP WITH.

Page 2: English with Mr. Walczakwalczakclass.weebly.com/.../2/7/8/3278100/2015_walc… · Web viewYou will have four weeks to design and create your Senior Project Website. This will count

For a final culmination project you are to create a personal website. In order to pass this project, you must:

Complete a Brainstorm page for EACH of your tabs! Think of it as rough drafts. Turn in all parts on time and well done. Craft all of your own WORK! Complete all components of the assignment. You will not be able to move forward

without each component done! Keep up and do not procrastinate! Work diligently & effectively during class time. No excuses! No games! No dilly-

dallying! No shenanigans!

Particulars:We will be using http:// www.weebly.com to sign up for a free account. Please note: your websites are being created under your name and therefore you are agreeing to the terms of this service. You will need to provide a home email address (keep it clean!) and create a website with several webpages.

You MUST follow this formula:1st=Your first name, 2nd=Last Initial, 3rd Hour= 4th SeniorProjectWalczak.weebly.comExample Weebly Webpage Address: JimD2SeniorProjectWalczak.weebly.com

***Follow the handout that describes how to create a Weebly website very closely!***For your benefit… there is a template website….Use the template website for further instruction about what content, artifacts, and abstracts need to be included for a grade. Check it out here:

http://favazzaseniorproject.weebly.com/ orhttp://acoffseniorproject.weebly.com/

On these websites you will find templates for this project! Each page shows and discusses what artifacts (items) or abstracts (writings) need be included for that tab. These are samplings and may only show a portion of all that is required. If you have questions, you should email me (Include your name and hour) and they will be answered as quickly as possible. Other Incidentals and IMPORTANT NOTES:

Think about keeping a positive digital footprint. Your website needs to take safety into consideration, but you also want to create a

footprint that is positive for yourself. This project is a big one and will require you to use your time wisely. You will also

need to think about what you will do with this website after you leave this class. Remember, this will contribute to your digital footprint.

You must consider your appearance to the rest of the world and to me! Proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar are expected.

This is a school project. The more effort, creativity, and depth you put into the project, the more your grade will reflect your hard work.

These websites should be neat and presentable and show elements of design and thought. All content MUST be school suitable and appropriate for general audiences. All work should be your OWN! If you use content garnered from other people or resources

without acknowledgements you will FAIL! THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY "DEAD PAGES" ON YOUR WEBSITE (empty pages without

content). These pages will greatly impact your final grade.

Home Page Specifics and Requirements (100 Points):

Introduce yourself, describe the purpose of your website, what a visitor might expect to find on the pages of your website, and share/explain why you’re proud of a particular part of your website. Blog Part 2: Responding to PostsAs a class we will all comment on each other’s’ posts. The method for this process will be completely at random and the creator of the website is responsible for ensuring all posts are school appropriate and fitting. Remember, you are the manager of this website; you have the ability to delete posts if someone is playing shenanigans with your site. If this does occur, please inform me and I’ll deal with the perpetrator.

This portion must be done in class. We will have a couple of rounds of random selection in which classmates will read your blog posts and make comments. You must comment on or to each of the two classmates’ posts. Two classmates will respond to each of your main posts. Your subsequent posts may be responses or question related comments only, meaning one or two sentences. You must then respond to their posts. This means, each main blog post will have a total of 4 comments – 2 from classmates and 2 from you. Since we are ALL writing 3 blog posts, your blog page will have a total of 12 comments.

Go through all three character generators:

1. http://www.abebooks.com/docs/community/featured/literarycharacterquiz/character-quiz.shtml

2. http://www.blog.oxforddictionaries.com/2012/04/which-classical-character-are-you/

3. http://www.quizrocket.com/greek-god-quizpick

Provide the generator that you used and what does it search for… female classical character, mythological character, etc. Be aware that some of these quizzes may be blocked by our school’s server-those will then have to be completed at home.

Brainstorm: Compare the three characters; Create a comparison chart that summarizes all of the characteristics found.

Choose one that best fits you (in your opinion) & write an abstract about the character (be sure to include): 1) where the piece comes from {era, author, etc.}; 2) summary of the work; 3) include all perceived characteristics (personality traits) of this character. Make sure to cite any and all borrowed data!

Now, write ONE reflection paragraph (6-7 complete sentences). Which generator (s) did you most agree with and why? Which did you least agree with and why? Was there another option that you feel would have been a better fit for you?
