A s a service-oriented organization and
student public relations team, the
Lawson State Community College
Ambassadors provide hours of assistance to
the college and the community. As beacons
of Lawson State, the Ambassadors create an
image of opportunity, and serve as examples
for fellow students, both academically and
socially. In addition, the Ambassadors
promote excellence and represent Lawson
State with pride at all times.
Some of the services and functions of the
Ambassadors include:
♦ Encouraging school spirit
♦ Escorting guests at official functions
♦ Welcoming visitors to the campus
♦ Serving as adjunct personnel to the
Office of Public Relations and
Community Affairs

AAAA mbassadors’ special projects have
included:
♦ Working with the Secret Service during
presidential visits to Birmingham
♦ Adopting the Girls of The Grace House
/tutoring the Boy’s of Children’s Village
♦ Hosting for the Alabama College Asso-
ciation, the Birmingham City Council,
the Civil Rights Institute
♦ Tutoring area school students
♦ Hosting the Governor’s Luncheon and
the Region 2020

♦ Ushering Lawson State Community
College’s Commencement Exercise
♦ Providing hosting for the African-
American Summit
♦ Gift wrapping at the mall during the
Christmas holiday
♦ Participating in radio and television
commercials for the college

A n individual must have at least a
3.0 grade point average to qualify
for membership. In exchange for a tuition
only scholarship, each Ambassador agrees
to perform 45 clock hours of service to the
college each semester. Service includes,
but is not limited to events such as college
open houses, high school senior tours, civic
and social events, recruiting, meetings,
high school career/college day activities
and other meetings and affairs of the
college. All members of the Lawson State
Ambassadors’ team must maintain a
minimum grade point average of 3.0 during
the entire term of membership. The
Ambassador founder and advisor is Ms.
Geri Albright, co-adviser is Ms. Lola
Bryant.
