l Sub-threads as student-led discussions on topics of interest (give SS their own voice, enhance learner autonomy and creativity)

The tutor’s role in facilitating forum discussions
1. sending reminders of an upcoming discussion in the forum;
2. feeding in new questions if the discussion goes off topic or is not very lively;
3. encouraging participation by assigning students special status and giving praise to those most active -‐‑> “topic guru,” “sage,” “subject expert,” “active participant”;
4. discussing some of Ss’ ideas expressed in forum during Skype sessions;
5. asking Ss to make a summary of the discussion and post it online.
