Commitment to EuropeFujitsu Microelectronics Europe (FME) has been established
in Europe for more than 27 years and today supplies state-of-
the-art semiconductor devices and systems solutions. FME
serves the European automotive, communications, multimedia
and industrial markets. Commitment to Europe is reinforced
by continuous investment in new design and support services
at the heart of these markets. More recently, FME moved into
new European headquarters in Langen, Germany, and
established a new Graphics Competence Center in Munich.
Support from Japan for EuropeThe construction of two new Fabs in the Mie prefecture
Japan, enables mass production of 300mm wafers, employing
90 and 65nm process technologies with the option to further
reduce to 45nm in the near future. This massive increase in
Fab capacity will enable European customers to benefit
quickly as they move towards high-end technology.

AUTOMOTIVE &INDUSTRIAL InnovationFME’s innovative automotive solutions cover key areas such as
vehicle body control and comfort systems, chassis control and
instrumentation clusters, and infotainment systems. From
microcontrollers, graphics controllers, gyro-sensors and
AGPS receivers, through software and hardware development
tools, software drivers, real-time operating systems, CAN, LIN
and FlexRay™ connectivity, to reference designs with
application software.
FME works closely with vehicle manufacturers, Tier 1
suppliers, third-party specialists and standard-setting
organisations such as AUTOSAR, with total support provided
by FME’s European Microcontroller Design Centre and local
applications teams.
Beyond the automotive sector, Fujitsu offers FRAM,
fingerprint sensors and linear devices in addition to
microcontrollers and graphics controllers. Its growing
presence in industrial embedded control applications includes
optimised solutions for factory automation, building control,
identification, vending machines and digital home appliances.

GRAPHICSSolutionsFujitsu’s graphics controllers offer designers flexible options to
create complete graphic display sub-systems – from compact
single-chip 2D systems to high-end 3D, dual eight-layer
solutions. Combined with Fujitsu’s MPEG decoders and
microcontrollers, they can form fully operational systems.
On-going investment in FME’s Business Unit Graphics
Solutions enables Fujitsu to develop its aggressive graphics
roadmap. The Business Unit is based at its Graphics
Competence Center in Munich, where a team of more than
30 experts combine hard- and software design, applications
and marketing skills. The roadmap predicts a growing portfolio
of 3rd & 4th generation devices, to be manufactured in
Fujitsu’s own 90nm technology, and supports FME’s mission to
retain its No.1 slot in embedded automotive graphics.
In addition to servicing existing automotive and multimedia
customers, the Business Unit Graphics Solutions additionally
targets markets including medical, industrial, POS, marine,
console-gaming and surveillance.
MB86297 is the first graphics controller for embedded automotive applications tobe fabricated in Fujitsu’s own 90nm technology.
FME’s Business Unit Graphics Solutions is based in Munich and employs more than30 specialists, combining hard- and software design, applications engineering andmarketing skills.

MULTIMEDIAProducts & SolutionsFujitsu’s multimedia range of products and solutions caters for
rapidly growing consumer demand in applications ranging
from set-top boxes to integrated digital TVs and complete
solutions for in-car entertainment.
FME’s European Multimedia Design Centre demonstrates its
global technical leadership in MPEG decoder and encoder
solutions, with advanced integration of MPEG SoC solutions
and precise architectural design significantly reducing BOM
costs and increasing design efficiency.
FME works closely with European partners and provides
reference designs and development platforms to minimise
development time and meet time-to-market requirements of
customers in the fast moving consumer world. The product
portfolio also includes integrated tuner and demodulator
solutions for various DVB standards.
The Multimedia Business Unit is committed to supporting
global DVB standards for the world-wide delivery of digital
television and data services. New products will continually be
developed for emerging applications meeting multiple
standards, which will allow customers to cover all markets with
a single design.
Solutions cater for applications ranging from set-top boxes to integrated digital TVs and complete solutions for in-car entertainment.
Highly-integrated SmartMPEG-E decoder provides a complete Personal Video Recorder (PVR) solution.

AdvancedCOMMUNICATIONS
Fujitsu’s advanced ASIC technology and SoC capabilities
enable market leaders to develop innovative solutions for
emerging communications infrastructure applications from
broadband access to next-generation core networks operating
at up to 40Gbps.
FME’s European ASIC, Mixed-signal and RF Design Centres
provide localised design support and fast turnaround times
for European customers, while its extensive portfolio of
re-usable IP ensures efficient throughput for custom and semi-
custom designs.
For mobile applications such as multimedia terminals
and location-based services, Fujitsu offers a broad range
of solutions from VCOs and PLLs through fingerprint
sensors, chipsets and modules for GPS, to sophisticated
multimedia processors.
Fujitsu is also making significant investment in the WiMAX
arena, developing leading-edge SoC solutions enabling
broadband connectivity for both access terminals and
base-stations. This complements its leading-edge DAC
technology, which is already widely deployed in GSM-,
GPRS- and 3G-based systems.
FME provides communications solutions for applications ranging from broadbandaccess to next-generation core networks.
The Fujitsu WiMAX SoC can opperate in TDD orFDD modes and supports all available channelbandwidths from 1.75MHz up to 20MHz.
