See Things Differently . . . Here’s to the crazy ones—the misfits, the rebels, the troublemakers, the round pegs in the square holes. The ones who see things differently—they’re not fond of rules. You can quote them, disagree with them, glorify or vilify them, but the only thing you can’t do is ignore them because they change things. They push the human race forward, and while some may see them as the crazy ones, we see genius, because the ones who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world, are the ones who do.  —Steve Jobs

Enhancing the ExperienceIf employees feel a partnership with the health plan “our plan” not “your plan” they will perceive the plan as a positive reward for the work they do leading to better engagement and higher performance.

Why It Matters Employees who believe that their employer doesn't care about them tend to become disengaged from the company's mission and goals, and the resulting lower morale and decreased productivity can have a negative impact on the bottom line.Health Care Tsunami (Dean Halverson and Wayne Glowac, 2008)

Employees Give What They Receive   “Studies show very clearly that when employees like their jobs, customers get better service and are more satisfied.” —Alexander Kjerulf, author of Happy Hour is 9 to 5.

Stores that invested in employee happiness saw a marked improvement in repeat customers and reports of brand satisfaction over stores that focused primarily on the bottom line. –Study by 2011 University of Missouri of a European franchise

Why It Matters

11A-12

Page 13: Enhancing the Employee in Your Health Care Plan the Employee Experience in Your Health Care Plan Christine Sebranek, CEBS Benefit Manager Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin Milwaukee,

Communicating the Why When upper management plans and communicates effectively with all employees and explains the reasoning behind the change, employees are much more likely to buy into it.

Changes that are mandated with little communication, on the other hand, are often poorly received, since employees may feel that the change is being “shoved down their throats.”
