AIR POLLUTION IN MACEDONIA
• In 1996 was adopted the
Act on Environment and Nature Protection and Promotion
• Government create -National Ecological Plan
• Municipalities establish - Local Environmental Action Plans
AIR POLLUTION IN MACEDONIA• The highest percentage share of pollution in Skopje is by SO2 (44%),
CO (30%) and NOx (24%), it is due to the large number of industrial processes, heating plants and traffic.

• It is obvious that in Bitola the pollution is from SO2 (84%) and it comes from REK-Bitola (power plant)
AIR POLLUTION IN MACEDONIA• The highest percentage share of pollution in Kicevo is by SO2 (82%) and
comes from TEC-Oslomej (power plant)
AIR POLLUTION IN MACEDONIA• The highest percentage share of pollution in Veles is by CO (39%), SO2
(52%) and comes from MHK-Zletovo and residential heating

• The highest percentage share of pollution in Gostivar is by CO (84%) and comes from wooden industry and textile industry

*55% percent of the children surveyed have blood and urine problems
* More than 10 percent of the Veles children between eight and 10 years old are predisposed to get leukaemia.
* Mortality from respiratory diseases has increased 179%.

resources, is heavily polluted by untreated urban and industrial pollution.

• Lakes Ohrid and Prespa Lake have international importance under the 'Ramsar' Convention on Wetlands

• A third large, natural lake, Lake Dojran. has experienced excessive fluctuations in water level due to overuse for irrigation and low rainfall. The water loss has seriously affected the aquatic biodiversity of Lake Dojran.
