My dear friends

Accra - London - Accra …. Sounds like a plane ticket and that is just what this edition of Enjoy aims to be.

We weren’t all invited to England to see the Royal Wedding; how-ever, we all witnessed the events one way or another. We bring you in this edition a special commemorative album of the highlights of this global event; remember to keep this edition sacred because Princes and Princesses do not get married every day.

Ghana is a part of the global community and we bring you various activities to mark that: from the charity event held in honor of the victims of the devastating Japanese Earthquake to a grand fundraising bazaar organized by the Ghana International Women’s Club.

The Golden Tulip Hotel is celebrating its 20th anniversary and we caught up with Mr Sajid Khan, the General Manager and asked him a few questions.

We bring you the launch of the Ensemble Foundation, a foundation which aims to create awareness about cervical cancer among the women in Ghana and we salute the organizers for all their hard work.

Of course your favourite magazine has its usual abundant selection of reports about the happenings in around Ghana.

....Enjoy

Holds Grand Bazaar at El Wak

T he Ghana International Women’s Club is a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of the less

privileged in Ghanaian society. The association is in its 30th year and consists of ladies from over 39 different countries.

To celebrate this milestone, GIWC has committed to provide financing for the renovation of an unused operating theatre for the Maternity Unit of the Ridge Hospital in Accra. The renovation will help to reduce the pressure on the hospital theatres which have seen a surge in women requiring surgery (numbers increased from 1900 in 2004 to 9000 in 2010).

To raise funds to complete the project the association held a grand bazaar at the

he marriage ceremony of Prince William and Catherine Middleton was one of the

most talked about events of the past month. The Royal Wedding attracted huge publicity. YouTube streamed the wedding live, Google maps had a royal pegman, Google posted a Royal Wedding logo as did Bing, Yahoo, AOL, and Ask UK. A media frenzy ensued which ensured billions of viewers shared the day with the royal couple.

royal wedding

With its design shrouded in secrecy, one of the most widely anticipated events of the day was the first view of the wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton. On the day in question, April 29th 2011, the royal bride arrived at the 1,000 year old Westminster Abbey in a stunning Sarah Burton gown. Combining lace sleeves with a plunging neckline was enough to send the British fashion industry into paroxysms of ecstasy.

The blushing bride wore a full veil and a 1936 Cartier diamond tiara loaned to her by the Queen. The champagne coloured flowers in her bouquet complimented her breathtaking gown. This real life Cinderella entered the Abbey led by her father, while her sister and maid of honor, Pippa, held her train.

Before a television audience of billions, the groom resplendent in the bright red dress uniform of the Irish Guards arrived accompanied by his brother Harry.

got invited by CFAO to test drive the new Renault Duster today. I have to say it’s a pretty interesting vehicle. From the outside it comes

across as a pretty compact car but it still manages to seat two adults and three children comfortably.

Inside it feels very snug and safe. The high seating positions give the driver a commanding view of the road ahead and a sense of complete control. The interior is neatly put together; most buttons are laid out in the centre console. The sound system can be controlled from the steering wheel, so you won’t have to keep looking down to adjust the volume or find a station.

It took me a while to figure out where everything was, but once you get used to the button placement you’ll be fine. I was especially intrigued by the horn. For me, it was pretty unconventional. I spent a lot of time honking it. Good fun.

The Duster may not look extraordinary at first glance, but it is for a few reasons: First off, Dusters come in 4*4 or 2*4 versions but whichever version you decide to get, one thing’s for sure: you’ll never have to worry about driving on rough or uneven roads again. The high ground clearance on these cars means they won’t hit or scratch any high bumps. The tough suspension complements that and allows you to confidently cruise along on any sort of terrain, rough, muddy or smooth, in total control.

Another thing is fuel consumption. With a 1.6 litre engine, it stands out as a very sensible car choice - especially for quickly darting in and around town. It’s the only crossover vehicle I know about with a 1.6 litre engine, and that’s because there aren’t many.

And then there's the price. At $ 24,000, there isn’t much competition out there in terms of value. And if you combine that with the expert after sales servicing that CFAO does on all its cars, you can be sure that value will last for a long time.

Truthfully, beyond looks and beyond the name (I’ve never understood why they named it “Duster,” apart from the fact that

it might sweep away any competition) it’s one of the most practical options out there in terms of cost and value. And the fact that you can go anywhere with it and it will comfortably handle any road condition is just a load of stress off the shoulders.

If I had to sum it up in three words, they would be: Practical. Smart. Affordable.

ervical cancer is the second most common

cancer in the world, yet one of the least spoken about. More than 500,000 thousand women worldwide are diagnosed each year with this disease, whereas nearly 250,000 of these will die from it. Before the discovery of the Pap smear procedure in the second half of last century in the United States, cervical cancer was the most deadly cancer for women. Current statistics reveal that a woman dies every two minutes from cervical cancer globally and

one in Africa every ten minutes. Many of these deaths could be averted if the Pap smear test was available to many more women.

The disease arises when cells of the cervix divide uncontrollably. It may present itself with vaginal bleeding, but symptoms may be absent until the cancer is in its advanced stages. Treatment consists of surgery (including local excision) in early stages and chemotherapy and radiotherapy in advanced stages of the disease.

Pap smear screening can identify potentially precancerous changes. Treatment of high

grade changes can prevent the development of cancer. In developed countries, the widespread use of cervical screening programs has reduced the incidence of invasive cervical cancer by over 50%.

Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is a common factor in the development of almost all cases of cervical cancer. HPV vaccines effective against the two strains of HPV that currently cause approximately 70% of cervical cancer have been licensed in the U.S, Canada, Australia and the EU. Since the vaccines only cover some of the cancer causing ("high-risk") types of HPV, women should still seek regular pap smear screening, even after vaccination.

n March 11 2011 an earthquake of 8.9 magnitude struck the

eastern coast of Japan. It was the most powerful known earthquake to have hit Japan, and one of the five most powerful earthquakes in the world overall since modern record-keeping began in 1900.

The earthquake triggered extremely destructive tsunami waves of up to 38.9 meters (128 ft).In some cases travelling up to 10 km (6 mi) inland. In addition the tsunami caused loss of life and destruction of infrastructure, a number of nuclear accidents, of which by far the most serious was an ongoing level 7 event and 20 km evacuation zone around the Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant. The overall cost of the destruction could exceed $300 billion, making it the most expensive natural disaster on record.

The Japanese National Police Agency has confirmed 14,949 deaths, 5,279 injured and 9,880 people missing across eighteen prefectures, as well as over 125,000 buildings damaged or destroyed.

Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan said, "In the 65 years after the end of World War II, this is the toughest and the most difficult crisis for Japan." The earthquake moved Honshu 2.4 m (8 ft) east and shifted the Earth on its axis by 10 cm (4 in).

The Japan Supporters in Ghana and the Infanta Malaria Prevention Foundation organized a special charity event on the 30th of April 2011, at the plush Mensvic Hotel in East Legon. The event was held to raise awareness of the current situation in Japan and to raise funds to support the Japanese people affected by this disaster and most importantly the many children left homeless or orphaned. The theme of the charity event was JAPAN NOT ALONE, WORLD STANDS TOGETHER WITH JAPAN.The charity event attracted many guests including the

Acting Japanese Ambassador to Ghana, H.E. Mochizuki, and Professor Atukwei Okai among others. The event climaxed with the auction of a Honda Civic donated by Honda Place.

W hat Is Emotional Intelligence? Mayer, J. D., Caruso, D.,

& Salovey, P. state, “emotional intelligence takes the terms emotion and intelligence seriously. That is, the meaning of emotional intelligence has something specific to do with the intelligent intersection of the emotions and thoughts.”

For example: Emotional intelligence represents an ability to validly reason with emotions and to use emotions to enhance thought.

They go on to say, “emotional intelligence refers to an ability to recognize the meanings of emotion and their relationships and to reason and problem-solve based on them. Emotional intelligence is involved in the capacity to perceive emotions, assimilate emotion-related feelings, understand the information of those emotions, and manage them, as to promote emotional and intellectual growth.”

With the four-branch model of emotional intelligence people:

1. Accurately perceive emotions in oneself and others;

2. Use emotions to facilitate thinking;

3. Understand emotional meanings

4. Manage emotions.

Generally speaking, emotional intelligence improves an individual's social effectiveness. The higher the emotional intelligence, the better the social relations. “This is an intelligence having to do with discerning and understanding emotional information. Emotional information is all around us. Emotions communicate basic feeling states from one individual to another -- they signal urgent messages such as "let's get together" or "I am hurting" or "I'm going to hurt you.” says, Daniel Goleman, well known author of mixed models of emotional intelligence.

Most intelligence researchers define intelligence as what is measured by intelligence tests, but some scholars argue that this definition is inadequate and that intelligence is whatever abilities are valued by one's culture. According to this perspective, conceptions of intelligence vary from culture to culture. In recent years, a number of theorists have argued that standard intelligence tests measure only a portion of the human abilities that could be considered aspects of intelligence. This means culture is salient factor in defining intelligence—not so much a score.

We all need emotional intelligence to help us through our emotionally demanding days. Even if we are not emotionally intelligent

ourselves, we may rely on those higher in emotional intelligence to guide us.

However, guide us to what? What is it that people high in emotional intelligence can see that so many others are blind to? The key to this lies in what those high in emotional intelligence are particularly good at doing themselves.

They are particularly good at establishing positive social relationships with others, and avoiding conflicts, fights, and other social altercations. They are particularly good at understanding psychologically healthy living and avoiding such problems as drugs and drug abuse. It seems likely that such individuals, by providing coaching advice to others, and by directly involving themselves in certain situations, assist other individuals and groups of people to live together with greater harmony and satisfaction.

So, perhaps even more important than test scores, is knowing one's level of emotional intelligence and skills.

Intelligence plus character - that is the goal of true education. –Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

he sixth edition of the popular television reality show, Big Brother

Africa, was broadcast on May Day from Johannesburg, South Africa.

Dubbed BBA ‘Amplified’, it has 14 participating countries with two contestants from each country. Unfortunately two housemates from Angola and Mozambique opted out for personal reasons leaving 26 contestants.

This season has two Ghanaian housemates: Confidence Ama Haugen, CEO of Venus World and the Aphrodisiac Nite Club and Alex Biney, a Fashion Designer. Previous Ghanaian representatives at the BBA events have included Samuel Bampoe (Sammy B); Kwaku Tutu (Kwaku-T), Wilhelmina Andani (Mimi), George Wayoe (Ray Wayo) and to date none have been able to annex the ultimate prize for Ghana.

For the first time, Big Brother brought out 26 house-mates to stay in the house for the next 91 days, instead of the usual fourteen housemates.

he Golden Tulip Hotel, Accra and Don Emilio organized a most enjoyable food and wine pairing night on 6th May 2011 at the Branche restaurant.

The basic premise of a wine pairing is to discover how the different foods served are complimented by the taste of the wines and vice versa.

Mr Xavier of the Golden Tulip Hotel and Mr Hermann of Don Emilio offered the gathering a 5 course meal served with 6 different wines. Canapes were served with a Jinda Lee, Pinot Grigio, the lobster starter with a Jacob's Creek Chardonnay. The second course a duck breast with steamed vegetables was served with a Porcupine Ridge, Cabernet Sauvignon. The Lamb was served with a blend of Merlot, Pinotage, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz from Bellingham and finally dessert was served with a raspberry cattier rose Champagne.

Mr Xavier showed guests "tasting" techniques such as looking at the colour and smelling the aromas, and explained what color meant or what aromas one might expect in different varietals. Mr. Hermann hinted that you might be able to tell the age of a red wine by the color and gave some tips to turn a wine novice into a pseudo connoisseur.

The Golden Tulip Hotel surpassed itself as the food was delicious and plentiful and the service was impeccable whilst the wine Mr Herman had chosen complimented the food beautifully.

Aries21/3-20/04

Taurus21/4-21/05

You are entering into a brilliant period for increasing your earning power, dear Aries, and in May, you'll be busy taking charge of your finances. Money-making opportunities are likely to present themselves, and you feel especially motivated to take advantage of them. Whether it's a promotion or an all-new position, this is a good time for pursuing your dreams and asking for what you want. Your life stabilizes this month, and romantic matters are quiet but strong. Achieving a sense of security becomes a priority.

May has your name written all over it, dear Taurus. In June, you'll enter a long-term cycle in which opportunities to advance are strong, and this month, you begin to see doors opening to you. You've been on the fence about several matters in your life, but May brings clearer vision and easier decision making. The only real caution now is to avoid pushing yourself and others too hard. It's an excellent period for increased energy and motivation, so that new endeavors, whether they are business or health-related, or personal, fare especially well.

May begins with plenty of activity and socializing, dear Gemini, but quiets down as the month progresses.

It's a time for collecting yourself, tying up loose ends, and catching up on rest, although mid-month can bring a flurry of activity surrounding work. It can be difficult to meet important deadlines at that time, simply because energy and motivation levels can be low, so you might want to work on projects in advance. In fact, take advantage of the first two weeks of May to push forward with your personal and group-related endeavors.

Libra24/9-23/10

Capricorn22/12-20/01

Cancer22/6-23/07

You can make great strides in your career in the first week of May, dear Cancer. Those in authority look upon you very favorably, and professional projects tend to move forward without resistance. You are likely to get recognition for the work you do or for your responsibility now. Don't hide yourself away! As the month progresses, emphasis on career decreases and social activities become a stronger focus. Not only will you enjoy the company of friends, your networking efforts can actually inspire new ideas and can lead to success down the road.

You are entering a long-term cycle in which your social status increases and others begin to recognize your professional efforts with more favor, dear Leo. May brings a hint of these things to come, with doors opening for promotions, improved working conditions, or a new position. Your ambition is stimulated, but do take care not to bulldoze your way towards your goals. While most appreciate your take-charge attitude, some might feel threatened by your assertions of independence, so be sure to include everyone. Family members and domestic matters will require special attention mid-month.

While you've been rather introspective recently, dear Virgo, and you continue to be withdrawn in the first week of May, you begin to come out of your shell this month. You are hungry for adventure and experiences that lift you above your usual concerns and daily routine. Educational or travel opportunities are opening up in your life, and will continue to do so throughout 2011. Take advantage of this time to brush up on skills or to learn an entirely new subject. This will better prepare you for career success down the road.

May is a strong month for taking charge of finances, dear Libra, and in particular those shared with others, debts, and loans. It is a good time for borrowing or settling debts, if necessary. Either way, dealing with debt now tends to generate positive outcomes. Relationships have been making headlines in your life recently, and this month, the more intimate aspects of sharing with a special someone become your primary concern. The urge for self-transformation can also be strong, and it's a fine time for kicking a bad habit and eliminating wasteful activities.

The first half of May is excellent for work matters, dear Scorpio. It's a strong period for personal influence on the job. Some of you might even meet a special someone through your work or health activities. Close partnerships become a major focus as the month progresses. In fact, throughout the remainder of 2011, relationship opportunities are likely to abound. You are especially willing to put your own needs aside in order to make others happy, and your powers of negotiation skyrocket. A personal revelation can occur around the Full Moon on the 17th.

Creative and physical activities thrive this month, dear Sagittarius, especially in the first half of the month. Romantic inclinations are strong, and you find it easy and natural to attract positive attention from others. Whether it's a new romance or an existing one, passions run high. Casual dating, entertainment, and creative hobbies all fare well now. As May progresses, work matters become a stronger priority, as do any self-care and health programs. It's an excellent time not only for finding work, but also for relationships on the job.

You've been paying a lot of attention to family and career matters recently, dear Capricorn, and at times the juggling act you've been doing has been stressful. Fortunately, you're entering a much more easygoing and self-expressive period. By mid-May, your creative juices stir, and you find more opportunities to enjoy yourself. Romance is highly favored now. Your mood is playful and others more readily appreciate your unique romantic and creative style. Artists can find much success now and in the months ahead, and dabblers can pick up new interests.

The pace of your life continues to be hectic in the first half of May, dear Aquarius. You have a finger in many pies now. The first week of the month is excellent for learning and communication. You are getting your message across with charm and grace. By mid-month, you enter an extended period in which home and family life come into strong focus and are set to improve. Your increased attention to domestic matters certainly helps you to find more peace with family, and you are especially motivated to improve your living conditions.

The first week of May is brilliant for increasing your earning power and for attracting favors, gifts, and bonuses, dear Pisces. While there's a wonderful feeling of abundance now, a more hectic pace is likely as the month progresses. You are bound to take up new interests and many of you could be focusing a lot of attention on learning and communication endeavors. Increased contact with relatives, neighbors, and acquaintances is likely now, and while you can be very busy with a packed "to do" list, you'll be making new and exciting connections.
