Executive Summary
Fall 2017
The undergraduate enrollment of 8,880 included 1,467 first-time in college students, 468 new
transfer students, 1,967 dual credit students, and 4,978 returning students. Eighty percent are
from McLennan County. Sixty-six percent of students are female, and forty-nine percent are
members of racial or ethnic minority groups. Forty-one percent of students are in the age range
of 18-21 with an overall average age of 23.5 years at the beginning of the fall term.
Seventy-one percent of students are enrolled in academic majors designed to transfer to a four
year school. Using the state definition of full-time (which excludes flex classes), thirty-nine
percent are full-time students. The overall average credit hour load excluding flex classes is 9.0.
If flex classes are included, the percentage of full-time students jumps to eighty-nine percent and
the average credit hour load is 15.8.
The top 5 areas of study (by CIP Code) are Liberal Arts & Sciences (44.2%), General Studies
(16.3%), Business Administration and Management (4.0 %), Medical Assistant (2.9%), and
Transient, Non-Degree Seeker (2.7%).

The undergraduate enrollment of 8,791 included 1,469 first-time in college students, 625 new
transfer students, 1,721 dual credit students, and 4,976 returning students. Eighty percent are
from McLennan County. Sixty-six percent of students are female, and forty-eight percent are
members of racial or ethnic minority groups. Forty percent of students are in the age range of 18-
21 with an overall average age of 24.0 years at the beginning of the fall term.
Seventy-seven percent of students are enrolled in academic majors designed to transfer to a four
year school. Using the state definition of full-time (which excludes flex classes), forty percent
are full-time students. The overall average credit hour load excluding flex classes is 9.0. If flex
classes are included, the percentage of full-time students jumps to forty-five percent and the
average credit hour load is 9.3.
The top 5 areas of study (by CIP Code) are Liberal Arts & Sciences (37.3%), General Studies
(26.60%), Business Administration and Management (3.4%), Registered Nursing (3.0%), and
General Business/Commerce (2.8%).
