Explanation of Enrollment Data

1. The Spring Census date is January 30, 2013. Data included in this report is information captured from the

Banner Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW).

2. Percent Change in this report is the measure of change from Spring Census 2012 to Spring Census 2013 as a percentage. Caution: When considering % change it is important to note that increases or decreases in categories with low numbers will result in a high percentage change.

3. Due to rounding, some graphs may not total 100%.

4. Urban Education students are included in Main Campus. 5. Colorado School of Public Health students are not included in this summary. 6. Funding Summary:

a. Headcount: Students counted in Extended Campus have only cash funded courses

b. Credit Hours: Main Campus and Extended Campus credit hours are determined by the accounting code assigned to the course.

7. Undergraduate definition of Part-Time and Full-Time students: a. Part‐Time: students enrolled for fewer than 12 credit hours b. Full‐Time: students enrolled for 12 or more credit hours

8. Graduate definition of Part-Time and Full-Time students: a. Part‐Time: students enrolled for fewer than 9 credit hours b. Full‐Time: students enrolled for 9 or more credit hours

9. Race/Ethnicity Categories adhere to the reporting standards as mandated by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB). http://www.whitehouse.gov/omb/fedreg_notice_15

10. Race/Ethnicity is self-reported by the student. Students may leave the question blank and cannot indicate “Do not wish to provide.” Non US Citizens are students with a Visa.

11. First Generation is defined as a student who reported that neither parent/guardian graduated from a four-year college.

12. Low Income is defined as a student who is Pell Grant eligible. Statistics in this report reflect those students who were offered a Pell Grant greater than zero.

13. The Graduate Unclassified classification is students who are attending but have not yet been accepted into a Master’s or Doctorate program or non-degree seeking students.

14. Non-degree seeking graduate students are included in the Graduate School enrollment. 15. High School Undergraduates are enrolled students who are age 18 or younger and have not graduated high

school or earned a GED. 16. New First-time students are not high school undergraduates nor are they Study Abroad, zero credit

hour students. New First-Time students are those students who are enrolled in Spring as their first term.

17. New Transfer Students are undergraduate students who are enrolled in Spring as their first at the undergraduate level and has earned college credit(s) at another institution.

18. Freshmen classification are undergraduate students with 0-29 credits; Sophomore classification includes students with 30-59 credits; Juniors have 60-89 credits and Seniors have 90 or more credits until completion of a bachelor’s degree.

19. Fall to Spring retention by classification reflects the student’s class at the beginning of the fall term.

Executive Summary

Headcount by Classification (Page 6)

The total university Spring Census 2013 headcount of 11,551 is down by 94 students which is a -0.8% decrease from Spring Census 2012.

Undergraduate headcount decreased 128 students (-1.4%) from Spring Census 2012 while graduate student headcount increased 34 students or 1.5%.

Senior classification is 33.2% of the undergraduate population compared to 31.5% at Spring Census 2012.

Graduate Doctoral headcount increased by 16 students (3.0%).

The number of graduate Masters students decreased by 61 or -4.5%. Masters students represent 56% of those at the graduate level compared to 60% in Spring 2012.

Undergraduate resident students are 87.2% of all undergraduates and 74.4% of all graduate students are resident students.

Credit Hours by Classification (Page 7)

The student credit hour grand total is 139,690 a -1.5% decrease from Spring Census 2012.

The majority (86%) of the total student credit hours are resident (120,113); 87.7% of undergraduate credit hours are resident and 72.2% of graduate credit hours are resident.

Undergraduate headcount (see Table Headcount by Classification) and undergraduate credit hours both decreased by -1.4%.

Although the graduate headcount increased 1.5%, the graduate Spring Census credit hours decreased -2.5% (-392 credits).

The Doctoral headcount went up 3.0% but the credit hours went down -3.1%. The average credit hours per student in Spring 2013 is 7.2 compared to 7.6 in Spring 2012.

Funding Summary Headcount (Page 8)

Main Campus headcount is 89% of the total.

Undergraduate WUE headcount increased 21% or 81 students.

Undergraduate headcount for students registering exclusively in extended campus courses decreased by -21.8% (-79) and Main campus headcount dipped -0.5% or 49 enrollees.

Graduate Extended Campus headcount increased 6.7% from Spring Census 2012 and Main Campus decreased by -1.8%.

Funding Summary Credit Hours (Page 9)

Main Campus credit hours (131,049) are 93.8% of the total 139,690. The percentage in Spring 2012 was 93.4% of the total credits.

The undergraduate main campus credit hours differ -1.0% from Spring Census 2012.

Spring Census 2013 WUE credit hours are 5.3% of the total undergraduate credit hours.

Graduate main campus hours decreased -193 hours or -1.9% compared to Spring Census 2012.

The total Extended campus credit hours decreased by -692 credit hours, a -7.5% decrease from Spring Census 2012.

Course Load Summary (Page 10)

The percentage of undergraduate part-time students remained the same (11%)as Spring Census 2012. The percentage of graduate students who are full-time declined -4% from Spring Census 2012(38%).

Undergraduate Enrollment by Ethnicity (Page 13)

Approximately 23% of the undergraduate population is minority this is an increase over Spring Census 2012 (21%).

Within the minority category, the Hispanic classification is the largest and represents 14.8% of the entire undergraduate population. The Hispanic classification was 12.9% of the total undergraduate population at Spring Census 2012.

Undergraduate African American students decreased -1.5% from Spring 2012 Census (-5 students).

White students are 59.4% of the undergradate population compared to 58.4% in Spring 2012 which is a increase of 23 students.

The number of students with unknown ethnicity decreased from 20.0% last year to 15.5% in 2013.

Graduate Enrollment by Ethnicity (Page 14)

The graduate minority population decreased from 14.3% to 12.9% in Spring 2013 Census.

Hispanic graduate students represent 6.8% of the total graduate population increasing from 6.3% at Spring Census 2012.

Non-US Citizen headcount increased by 126 students which is a 280% increase over Spring 2012 Census.

Undergraduate First Generation & Undergraduate Low Income (Page 15)

Low income is defined as those students who are Pell Grant Eligible.

Thirty-five percent (35%) of the undergraduates are first generation students compared to 34% in Spring 2012.

Low income undergraduate students are 33.6% of all undergraduate students.

Undergraduate First Generation and Low Income (Page 16)

The percentage of undergraduate students that are both first generation and low income increased 1% in Spring 2013 from 17% up to 18%.

New Student Enrollment (Page 17)

The number of degree-seeking new transfer undergraduate students decrease -20.2% (-71 students) from Spring 2012.

The number of degree-seeking new first-time undergraduate students decrease -21.8% going from 78 student in 2012 down to 61 in 2013.

Continuting degree-seeking graduate student went up 6.1% or 107 students compared to last year.

Students Enrolled in (at least one) Online Course (Page 18)

The percentage of undergraduate students enrolling in (at least) one online course changed from 22% in Spring 2012 to 24%.

The percentage of graduate students enrolling in (at least) online course increased from 39% of the graduate population to 41%.

Students enrolled by Gender (Page 19)

The percentage of undergraduate females remained constant from Spring Census 2012 at 62% Graduate females decreased to 73% from 74% in 2012.

The College of Natural & Health Sciences (NHS) undergraduate headcount is up 22.7% from Spring Census 2012 and represents 31% of the undergraduate total headcount of 9,225. NHS graduate headcount is up 1.9% or 10 students over Spring 2012.

College of Education & Behavioral Sciences (EBS)undergraduate headcount increased 53 students (5%) from Spring Census 2012. EBS graduate student headcount decreased 10 students or -0.8% from Spring Census 2012.

The College of Performing & Visual Arts undergraduate headcount increased 37 students while the graduate headcount for PVA decreased 10 students.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) undergraduate headcount decreased 82 students (-4.2%).

Monfort College of Business undergraduate headcount increased 3.9%.

College Credit Hours (Page 22)

Undergraduate credit hours are up in the College of Performing & Visual Arts and the College of Natural & Health Sciences 6.5% and 22.0% respectively.

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences undergraduate credit hours decreased -4.9%.

Graduate credit hours are down -4.6% in PVA compared to Spring 2012.

Graduate credit hours are up in MCB 12.0% or 13 students.

Credit hours for graduate EBS students are 349 lower than Census 2012. Age Summary (Page 23)

86.2 percent of undergraduate students are under the age of 25.

17.4% of graduate students are 45 years old or older.
