Background

Coming from a middle class background, within a short period of 21 years, with his visionary outlook, he conceived, nurtured and developed GTL, the Flagship company of Global Group, into India’s largest network services company to the world. GTL offers Network Services to leading Telecom Carriers and Technology providers across 35 countries. In a sector, where experience and qualifications are treated as pre-requisites, Mr. Tirodkar has demonstrated the limited relevance of these perceived notions through the success of GTL.

Mr. Tirodkar established GTL in 1987, at the age of 23 years, for distribution and marketing of telecom products. With the liberalization of the Indian Telecom Sector in India and the increasing telecommunication needs all over the world, he led the Company to position itself it as a provider of Network and Consultancy Services. The services provided by the Company in Network Services include Network Planning & Design, Network Deployment, Network Operations & Maintenance, Infrastructure Management, Applications Management, Professional Services and Energy Management. Today the Company is one of the leading providers of Network Services to the telecom operators and technology providers (OEMs), globally.

In 2004, Mr. Tirodkar envisaged the massive telecom growth in the country and conceptualised sharing of passive infrastructure for telecom in India, which was already a successful model in the Western countries. GTL Infrastructure, which was de-merged from GTL Limited, is the pioneer for passive telecom infrastructure in India. It is in the midst of rolling out app 25000 in the next three years, with a capital investment of USD 1.8 Billion (Rs 7200 Cr). A majority of these towers would be deployed in rural and semi urban India, which would help improve the connectivity and bring in affordable communications to the millions of Indians living there.

Under his leadership GTL is also aggressively pursuing organic and inorganic growth strategies that would enable GTL to become the World’s largest Network Services Company. The current strategies of the Organization are being driven by Mr. Tirodkar’s vision 2011, which envisages GTL becoming the world’s largest Network Services Company with a revenue base of USD one Billion, and operations in 50 countries.

The inorganic growth initiatives that have been carried out so far are• GTL acquired Genesis Consultancy, a company with an expertise in the 3G platforms with revenues of GBP 7.5 mn and 120 experienced engineers, strengthening the company’s positioning in the 3G space.

• GTL Limited acquired ADA Cellworks, a leading player in Network Planning and Optimization in Asia Pac from Intel Capital and Malaysian Government. ADA Cellworks has presence in China and Asia Pac.

• GTL also acquired SCS, a Network Deployment company with presence in the important market of USA and has relationships with leading service providers.
