ENTREPRENEURSHIP AWARENESS CAMP

Institution Innovation Council and Entrepreneurship Development Cell – AVIT organized a 3
Day Entrepreneurship Awareness Camp from 29th January 2020 to 31st January 2020 with the
support of National Science and Technology Entrepreneurship Development Board and funded by
Entrepreneurship Development Institute 0f India ( EDII ) . This is being organised under the
Department of Science and Technology DST - NIMAT Project , the flagship of Government of India to
promote Entrepreneurship among students of Science and Technology. Around 75 students of various
courses of Engineering and Technology had participated in the three day camp. Dr.S.A.V. Satyamurti,
Campus Director and Dr. K.L. Shunmuganathan, Principal, AVIT presided the inaugural function. Prof.
N.Lakshminarayanan,Deputy Director, Entrepreneurship Development Cell, AVIT welcomed the
gathering and briefed on the objective of the three day camp.
EVENT S
DAY ONE : Whole Brain Engineering for a Successful Entrepreneurship
SPEAKER : Prof.Dr.K.Vipinendran, Director, Centre for Alumni Affairs, Anna University
The objective of the event was to inculcate the aspects of lateral thinking by applying whole brain in
finding out variable solutions to all problems, that would help a budding entrepreneur to step into
entrepreneurship with confidence. The participants were put to exercises on communication,
networking, problem solving and confidence building. Students participated enthusiastically in all the
activities.
DAY TWO :
SESSION I : Design Thinking and Innovation
SPEAKER : Ms.Pa.Suriya, Assistant Professor, Dept.of Civil Engg., IIC Ambassador
The session on Design Thinking and Innovation was very significant with lot of inputs on the
characteristics of innovation. Detailed step by step approach on the ways of attaining optimum solution
was part of the delivery. The participants were given different problems and were put to find innovative
solutions by brainstorming and presented them fairly.
SESSION II : Product Design and Developent
SPEAKER : Mr.N.Vasudevan, Associate Professor, Dept.of Mech Engg.,Sairam Engg. College,IIC
Ambassador
Product Design and development followed a session on Innovation, providing a detailed step by step
approach and designing an innovative product and developing it to the final stage. As part of the
session, case studies of few significant innovations transformed into products were also discussed. This
gave an insight to the participants.
SESSION III : Patent and Product
SPEAKER : Dr.K.Boopathy, Associate Professor, EEE , AVIT, IIC Ambassador
Session on patents for the products developed through innovation was a lively session, with
participants keenly listening the reasons for applying for patents and methods by which patents are
applied. The benefits of patents and the consequences of not applying for patents were also detailed
during the session.
SESSION IV : Pre-incubation and Incubation Management
SPEAKER : Mr.R.Praveen, Assistant Professor, Dept.of Mech Engg.Convenor – IIC, IIC Ambassador
During the sessions on pre - incubation the participants were given the ways by which product innovators will be
hand-held for successful launch into market. The participants were also briefed on the incubation schemes
available with government, institutions, private sector,etc.,
DAY THREE : Industrial Visit

PRODUCT : Aluminum Alloy Castings
PROPRIETOR : Mr.Anbuselvan, First Generation Entrepreneur
Student participants were briefed on the production methods of aluminum alloy castings in the visit by
the production manager of the industry. The visit gave an insight into the production layout and also
about the organization structure.
Mr.Anbuselvan, MD, Indosat Corporation, a first generation entrepreneur addressing the students on
Entrepreneurship. The students had an interaction with him on start-up and risk factors related to that.
He encouraged the students to think innovative ideas and incubate them into startups.
SESSION II : Start – Up Policy
SPEAKER : N.Lakshminarayanan, Associate Prof., Mech Engg., AVIT, IIC Startup Coordinator
Startup Policy of State and Central Govt. were discussed in detail for the benefit of the student
participants.
OUTCOME :
Participants have been formed into small teams, Each team is preparing a business proposal and an
analysis of these proposals is scheduled a week after.
