Ištvan Išt Huzjan: Measures16 Jun - 17 Sep, Ljubljana City Art MuseumIštvan Išt Huzjan, the recipient of the 31th Biennial’s main prize, concentrates on a segment of his artistic production associated with the idea of travelling, often with an emphasis on returning home, given that his artistic investigations, actions and works frequently focus on his initial points of reference, such as the home, childhood, sandpit and children’s drawings.Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 21:00. Closed: Mondays
Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)Permanent exhibition at the National GalleryZoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with his series of paintings We Are Not the Last, in which he relived the scenes he experienced in the Dachau concentration camp. Ljubljana’s National Gallery displays the world’s only permanent survey exhibition of Mušič’s work, which explores the entire range of the famous artist’s painting techniques. Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00-20:00. Closed: Mondays
Plečnik CollectionThe new permanent exhibition at the Plečnik House in Trnovo presents the most important projects of the late architect. Plečnik’s creativity comes to life through the plans, models and photographs of his creations such as the Zacherl House in Vienna, Prague Castle, the National and University Library in Ljubljana, the Ljubljana Central Market, Žale Cemetery, the Church of St. Michael at the Ljubljana Marshes and numerous other masterpieces. Several plans of Plečnik’s never realized visions are also on display. The Cathedral of Freedom, the master’s vision of the Slovenian parliament, is especially worthy of our attention.Guided tours: every hour, on the hour (the last guided tour at 17:00). A group may be a maximum of seven persons.Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays

The 32nd edition of the Biennial of Graphic Arts is on display at MGLC - International Centre of Graphic Arts and in the newly renovated Švicerija Creative Centre. In addition to the main exhibition Birth as Criterion, the 32nd Biennial of Graphic Arts also presents the traditional exhibition of the winner of the Grand Prize of the previous Biennial, this time Ištvan Išt Huzjan, a presentation of work by Peter Gidal, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the 31st Biennial, a project by the winner of the Audience Award of the 31st Biennial of Graphic Arts, Meta Grgurevič, a Maria Bonomi retrospective at the Jakopič Gallery, as well as a vibrant discursive programme with an international symposium.Locations: Švicarija Creative Centre and MGLC - International Centre of Graphic Arts
Exhibitions
Maria Bonomi: Printmaking Forever16 Jun - 19 Oct, Jakopič GalleryAs part of the Biennial of Graphic Arts, the gallery presents an overview exhibition of one of the most important representatives of Brazilian contemporary art and culture as well as an internationally renowned artist, Maria Bonomi. Her work is, regardless of its content, deeply personal and always optimistic, filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and joy for life. Her prints are expressive, yet defined by fragility and apparent simplicity. The art language of Mara Bonomi is one of woodcuts, with an emphasis on special treatment of the three-dimensional matrix, although she also employs lithography, serigraphy and digital image manipulation. She is an advocate of communicative and collaborative art and her prints articulate intelligence and sensibility.Saturdays at 16:30 guided tours in English. Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays
Giambatistta Tiepolo: Drawings from the Collections of the Civici Musei of Trieste (Italy)1 Jun - 3 Sep, National GalleryGiambattista Tiepolo was an influential and charismatic personality of the grand stage of the 18th century visual arts and one of the most important painters of Late Baroque. His oeuvre mostly encompasses wall paintings in the aristocratic palaces and churches of Northern Italy, while his work for the courts in Germany and Spain speak to his international fame. He influenced both his contemporaries and future generations. Today, the wider public is mostly familiar with his magnificent illusionist scenes, whose colourful tones and numerous sumptuous figures remind us of a theatre play unwinding right in front of us.Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 20:00. Closed: Mondays
Ljubljana, a City with Plečnik’s Signature15 Jun - 7 Nov, Tivoli park, Jakopič’s promenadeLjubljana without Plečnik’s architecture is hard to imagine today, but that is how it looked in the 1920s, when Slovenia’s greatest architect began realising his masterful projects. The exhibition presents archival photographs by Peter Naglič, a precious testimony of the time when Plečnik’s Ljubljana was being created. To contrast the archival photographs, the other side of the Jakopič Promenade displays contemporary photographs by Matevž Paternoster, which unveil new perspectives of Plečnik’s artworks.
The 32nd Biennial of Graphic Arts: Birth as Criterion16 Jun - 29 Oct, various venues
Faraway, So Close, this year's edition of BIO, focuses on Slovenia’s main po-tential: its landscape. Curators Angela Rui and Maja Vardjan have deployed international teams of designers to the woods, the karst underground, mining areas, the plains of the Pan-nonian Basin, the Slovenian coast, and the Slovenian Alps. The projects designed and presented at BIO seek to identify the potential of places that are only a stone’s throw away from the capital, yet are excluded from current discussions on the future. The most interesting part of the biennial and the key content of the exhibition held at the Museum of Architecture and Design is therefore on display in seven venues: Grosuplje, Kočevje, Kobarid, Lendava, Trbovlje, Piran, and Ljubljana.Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Popjazziada is one of the most prominent a cappella music festivals in Slovenia. Each year, Popjazziada features the most active and best Slovenian vocal groups and newcomers in the field of popular vocal music. Each of the performing vocal bands transfers the sounds of better- and lesser-known songs into the world of a cappella, where voices take on the role of instruments, in its own unique way. In recent years, local groups have been joined by foreign guests - this year, the honour belongs to Upsweep. In two years, the group Upsweep from Rome has managed to establish itself on the Italian a cappella scene, and is confidently continuing its breakthrough on international stages.
