The festival’s rich programme of concert, opera, and ballet events features internationally renowned artists, including some of the world's most recognised names in music and performing arts. The main venue of the Ljubljana Festival is the picturesque Križanke Summer Theatre, a gem of 13th century architecture rebuilt to its present form by the famous architect Jože Plečnik. Festival events are also held at a number of other prestigious venues in Ljubljana and its surrounding areas. For several years now, the opening of the Ljubljana Festival has been held in Kongresni trg square, one of Ljubljana's central squares.www.ljubljanafestival.si

Giambatistta Tiepolo: Drawings from the Collections of the Civici Musei of Trieste (Italy)1 Jun - 30 Sep, National GalleryGiambattista Tiepolo was an influential and charismatic personality of the grand stage of the 18th century visual arts and one of the most important painters of Late Baroque. His oeuvre mostly encompasses wall paintings in the aristocratic palaces and churches of Northern Italy, while his work for the courts in Germany and Spain speak to his international fame. He influenced both his contemporaries and future generations, since his protean activity “connected the opulence of Baroque, the elegance of the Rococo, and the coldness of the slowly advancing Neoclassicism”, as Luc Menaše so vividly put it.Today, the wider public is mostly familiar with his magnificent illusionist scenes, whose colourful tones and numerous sumptuous figures remind us of a theatre play unwinding right in front of us.Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 20:00. Closed: Mondays

Ljubljana, a City With Plečnik’s Signature15 Jun - 3 Sep, Tivoli park, Jakopič’s promenadeLjubljana without Plečnik’s architecture is hard to imagine today, but that is how it looked in the 1920s, when Slovenia’s greatest architect began realising his masterful projects. The exhibition presents archival photographs by Peter Naglič, a precious testimony of the time when Plečnik’s Ljubljana was being created. To contrast the archival photographs, the other side of the Jakopič Promenade displays contemporary photographs by

Matevž Paternoster, which unveil new perspectives of Plečnik’s artworks.

Ištvan Išt Huzjan: Measures16 Jun - 17 Sep, Ljubljana City Art MuseumIštvan Išt Huzjan, the recipient of the 31th Biennial’s main prize, concentrates on a segment of his artistic production associated with the idea of travelling, often with an emphasis on returning home, given that his artistic investigations, actions and works frequently focus on his initial points of reference, such as the home, childhood, sandpit and children’s drawings.Open: 10:00 - 18:00, Thursdays 10:00 - 21:00. Closed: Mondays

Zoran Mušič (1909-2005)Permanent exhibition at the National GalleryZoran Mušič, the best known 20th century Slovenian-born painter and a man with more than one homeland, spent most of his life between Venice and Paris. He mostly painted landscapes, still lifes, portraits, Dalmatian donkeys and horses, trees, views of Venice, double portraits with his wife Ida, and poignant self-portraits depicting him as an old man. His visual motifs were always related to the Slovenian region of Kras and its typical scenes. He became world famous with

BIO, organized by Museum of Architecture and Design, is an inter-national platform for new approaches in design. BIO was founded back in 1963, making it the first design bien-nial in Europe. Today BIO is structured as a long-term collaborative process, where teams of designers and mul-tidisciplinary agents develop alterna-tives to established systems. With curators like Jan Boelen, Angela Rui and Maja Vardjan, BIO works as a test-ing ground, where design is employed as a tool to question and improve our daily life, among different and mul-tidisciplinary design approaches that touch systems, production, services, scientific research, humanistic issues, unexpected conditions for the produc-tion of our habitat. The diverse array of topics resonates with both local and global demands, with its com-prehensive projects aimed at creating resilient structures that develop over time, often beyond the duration of the Biennial.Open: 10:00 – 18:00. Closed: Mondays

Maria Bonomi: Printmaking Forever16 Jun - 19 Oct, Jakopič GalleryAs part of the Biennial of Graphic Arts, the gallery presents an overview exhibition of one of the most important representatives of Brazilian contemporary art and culture as well as an internationally renowned artist, Maria Bonomi. Her work is, regardless of its content, deeply personal and always optimistic, filled with enthusiasm, curiosity and joy for life. Her prints are expressive, yet defined by fragility and apparent simplicity. The art language of Mara Bonomi is one of woodcuts, with an emphasis on special treatment of the three-dimensional matrix, although she also employs lithography, serigraphy and digital image manipulation. She is an advocate of communicative and collaborative art and her prints articulate intelligence and sensibility.Saturdays at 16:30 guided tours in English. Open: 10:00 - 18:00. Closed: Mondays
