Numbering Considerations
In telecommunications – regulatory involvement (number assignment, portability, consumer protection)
National regulatory/numbering authorities coordinate the allocation of E.164 resources
On the Internet – management of naming and addressing is private-sector based

Why a Common Solution is Important
All telecommunications industry segments are looking for IP interconnection solutions
Individual groups of service providers are investigating proprietary solutions
However, such “Islands of ENUM” would require additional layers of interworking to provide effective, efficient national and global service
Building these additional interworking bridges can be avoided if we can reach a consensus on a standard Provider ENUM solution

Next Steps
Bring all of the North American service providers to the table to learn more about Provider ENUM and consider its suitability as a unified solution for all segments of the industry – Wireline, Wireless, and Cable.
Consideration of functional and interoperability testing opportunities
Discussion of global interoperability alternatives
