In Land Plastic Waste Problem

• Poor waste management

Marine Plastic waste problem

• island country - large coastal line - 54,710 km -240 million population

• estimated contribution of *12 % to the global marine plastic waste, creating microplastic formation, especially now increased by spreading use of oxodegradable plastic.

The danger of Microplastics

Microplastic are tiny plastic particles up to 5 mm in diameter.

In the last four decades, concentration on these particles appear to have increased significantly in the surface waters of the ocean.

Oxodegradable plastics are suspected as primary contributor of the increased on microplastic in our environment.

Raw Material and Curent Capacity.

• Our capacity now for bioplastic pelet is around 300 ton permonth. For securing the availability of our feed stock with more competitive price, due to increase of cassava starch price , starting last year we tried for the possibility of using corn starch instead of cassava starch in our compounding formulation . The availability of corn in Indonesia is much more improving in the last five years. Berfore 2016 the average corn production is 11 million tons , Then in 2016/2017 adding one million hectares of corn plantations in Indonesia. The government has budgeted IDR 2.5 trillion (approx. USD $187 million) for the purchase of land and IDR 750 billion (approx. USD $56 million) for corn seeds. In 2018 it is reported that total production is 18.5 million tons.

• Starch : • amylose and amylopectin biopolymers consist of glucose building blocks.

• ratio : amylose 20-30 % and 70-80 % amylopectin.

• This ratio determines the fermentation of starch, its viscosity, gelatinisation, retro-gradation.

• To convert starch into a compostable Bioplastic compound we need a formulation which incorporates a vegetable oil derivative, and other proprietary additives.
