HEATING/COOLING

Tankless Water Heater

• Heater that heats up the water only when needed, o eliminates the need for

storage tanks o reduces the use of energyo replaces a normal water

heater

• Tankless heaters last about 5-10 years longer than a tank heater, take up much less space and provide you with an unlimited amount of hot water. Electric, propane, or natural gas

MATERIALS/ STRUCTURE

FSC hardwood flooring

LEED certifiedHelps environmentMade of recycled materialMade with non-toxic adhesives

Straw Bale InsulationMade from waste product

Little energy is used to make the insulation

Can last over 100 years100% biodegradable

Most effective in climates

ELECTRICITYSolar Panels

A panel on top of the roof used to convert light into electricity

Replaces the use of fossil fuels for energy, not relying on the areas power plant

The panels are made of solar cells that are attached by a wire to a circuit. When light hits it is converted into electricity through the circuit

WASTE

Composter• Decayed organic material used for fertilizer• Reduces the amount of waste going to a landfill• Specific cans will be for composting inside the restaurant• A pile outside of the restaurant will be for compost and later used

as fertilizer

WASTEDual Flush Toilet

Toilet that conserves water

Replaces normal toilets

Different flushes for different waste

Hydrogen Fuel Cells

HOW IT WORKS• •The hydrogen fuel cell operates similar to a battery.

• •It has two electrodes, an anode and a cathode.

• •They are separated by a membrane.

• •Oxygen passes over one electrode and hydrogen over the other.

• •The hydrogen reacts to a catalyst on the electrode anode.

• •The anode converts the hydrogen gas into negatively charged electrons (e) and positively charged ions (H+).

• •The electrons flow out of the cell.

• •They are then used as electrical energy.

• •The hydrogen ions move through the electrolyte membrane to the cathode electrode.

• •They combine with oxygen and the electrons.

• •They then produce water.

• •Unlike batteries, fuel cells never run out.

ADVANTAGES• •Readily available

• -It may take some work to access.

• -There is no element in the universe as abundant as hydrogen.

• •No harmful emissions

• -No pollution when burned.

• -Burned in NASA’s spaceships

• -Leaves behind clean drinking water for the astronauts.

• •Environmentally friendly

• -Non toxic.

• -Rare among fuel sources.

• -Most fuel sources are found in hazardous environments.

• -This makes hydrogen ideal.

• •Used as fuel in rockets

• -Very powerful.

-Very efficient. -Can propel a spaceship. -Safer than any other product. -Three times as powerful as gasoline. -It takes less to accomplish more•Fuel efficient -More efficient than traditional sources -Produces more energy per pound of fuel -A car loaded with hydrogen fuel can go much faster than one loaded on traditional sources.•Renewable -Nonrenewable sources can’t be reproduced

DISADVANTAGES• •Expensive

•    -Gas requires a lot of work to free if from other elements.

• -If it were easy to isolate, everyone would be using it.

• -Has been used to power hybrid cars.

•    -Not a viable source of fuel for everyone.

•    -Too expensive.

•    -Too time-consuming.

•    -Technology must advance.

•    -Hydrogen will continue to be costly.

• •Storage

•    -Hard to move around.

•    -Oil can be sent through pipelines.

•    -Super-light hydrogen is hard to transport in a reasonable fashion.

•    -It is very expensive to move anything more than small amounts of it.

•   -It is very impractical for most functions.

•Not easy to replace existing infrastructure   -It becomes more expensive when considering to try to use it to replace gasoline.   -There is no infrastructure to accommodate hydrogen as a main fuel source.   -Cars would have to be refitted at a very high cost.   -It seems unethical to suggest to replace fuel sources that already work so well.•Highly flammable   -Hydrogen is already very powerful.   -Very destructive in a bomb.   -Highly inflammable.   -Many potential risks exist.•Dependency on fossil fuels   -Hydrogen is renewable.   -Its environmental impacts are minimal.   -We still need other nonrenewable resources to separate it from oxygen.-We may reduce our dependency on hydrogen to produce fossil fuels.   -We still need fossil fuels to produce hydrogen fuel.   -If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it
