In a positive trend of economic recovery, there seems to be less financial constraints. To take advantage of this momentum, it might be a good time to try out-of-the box ideas and challenges.

Union Tool is committed to develop products which meet customer expectations by carefully listen to customers voices from the customers.

Union Tool is not only focusing on PCB Drills, but on Hard End Mill, which is the second biggest business after PCB.

End mill is a tool which is inevitable for manufacturing mold tools or machine components. The tool itself is not something widely known by general consumers but it is widely used in home appliances. Through continuous improvement of blade shape, we have broadened the cutting pattern. At the same time, with extension of product life by newly introduced diamond coating, we could make our product eco-friendly.

In July 2014, we have launched “Diversity Project, “to further reinforce our organization agility with unique technology, production and product supply capability. The core of this project is the development of young generation or career management of women. At the same time, we also focus on reinforcement of management training, better work life balance, or networking of employees. Through internal/external training and development programs, we would like to deepen technical knowledge or broadening managerial visions so that we could support career development of each employee.

We commit to develop a sustainable organization by taking necessary initiatives to cope with changing environment. Not only providing high quality products but also added-value, eco-friendly products, we will continuously make best efforts to develop new products in a strategic manner.

We use manufacturing machine developed by ourselves. The huge advantage of using self-developed machine is to give us flexibility to adjust ourselves to changing market demands. Having design and assembly team together also enables us to maintain detailed information regarding whole manufacturing specification. Therefore, the machine could manage highly complex motion and highly technical cutting processing but with some tendency or character which can hardly communicate through documents.

To meet with customer demand for smaller diameter drills or special end mills with more complicated shapes, processing techniques has become increasingly complex. Our staff are facing many challenges such as to learn new operations, or acquiring specific techniques. While improving technical skills of our staff, we are also trying to make our machine user-friendly through involving both design and assembly team members in the design and planning phase. We also ensure to develop an excellent machine in all aspects with more energy efficiency, safety, quality, and performance.

Currently, we are reinforcing coating facility or processing machines. We are also actively promoting new product development. To produce high quality product, we need high quality processing machine. We are introducing special combined machine with multiple processing capabilities applying existing machine, or new type of machine with higher precision as well as processing speed. Based on our commitment to supply high quality product in a stable manner, we will continue to develop manufacturing machines.

This report will present various programs and activities on what we are conducting in our factory. We would appreciate if you could read it and give us any comments for mutual communication as well as for our future environmental activities.

In 2014, we have set a target and action plans based on the main theme of our environmental policy of Energy Saving, Recycling, Resource Saving. In the area of energy saving, we took various initiatives under the objective of reducing 1% of previous year’s consumption amount, and could achieve the target both in Nagaoka and Mitsuke Factories. In the area of recycling, we further promote the usage of returnable case in the domestic shipment of cutting tool. We also established the operation for re-usage of end mill case as a new initiative. In the area of resource saving, our comprehensive approach from the development of longer life tools to development/improvement of production machines, was resulted in making our customer satisfied with our newly developed longer life, eco-friendly tools

Among 2015 Objectives and Targets, in the area of energy saving, we will try to follow a new mid-term objective based on 2014 actual, which is to reduce 5% of electricity (energy) use in the consumption unit within five years at each factory. In the area of recycling, we will monitor the status of returnable case usage for domestic cutting tool shipment, or the stability of end mill case collection or recycling. We are to search other possible recyclable items, too. In the area of resource saving, we will actively develop longer life product, which can not only satisfy our customer needs but also can contribute to environment protection.
