WASTE

WATER
THE RECYCLING SCHEME
• 3,147 bins delivered to date to approximately 40 buildings
• All academic buildings included on 3 main campus sites
• Approximately 600 hours of volunteer time given for delivery of the bins
• 50% recycling rate from buildings with bins - shown in February 2008 – even top green Uni’s are only achieving around 40% overall
• Cambridge – 29%; Derby – 12%; L’boro – 8%; DMU – 6%* GO Green P&P figures from 2007
BIODIVERSITY/LAND MANAGEMENT
• Some contact with Brian Arnold – review needed
• Advice on the planning and design of projects e.g. new Management Training Centre and sports facilities have many green features embedded in the design
• Attend Estates project meetings
CONSTRUCTION/REFURBISHMENT
TRANSPORT
• Draft Travel Plan Framework approaching sign-off and soon will be circulated
• Examples of better procurement only anecdotal at this point e.g. some more local, organic and fairtrade food led by Catering
PROCUREMENT
• UoL Fairtrade Committee set-up• Student-led Green League table drew
attention to the green agenda in Universities • Ethical Investment Policy questions featured
as part of the current Green League table

Recognition So Far• Big Green Week – featuring in many UoL publications
