Letter from the Board Chair

It is an exciting and sobering time to be a part of Environmental Advocates of New York (EANY) as we continue our mission to make New York a leader in addressing the critical environmental challenges of our time. That mission has always depended on support from advocates like you. On behalf of the Board of Directors and the EANY team, thank you again for your generosity in supporting our work on the cusp of EANY’s 50th anniversary.

In 2018, EANY made significant progress implement-ing our strategic plan for the next decade. The plan calls for a sharpened focus on three policy domains: climate change, clean water, and develop-ing healthy and vibrant communi-ties. By prioritizing these policy areas, we believe EANY will have a greater impact

over the next 50 years. To achieve our policy goals, we added new staff members and stepped up our efforts to educate the public on key issues. We also increased our resources for policy campaigns to make sure the public’s voices are heard by government officials at all levels.

On the legislative front, in 2018 we continued to push for bold nation-leading policies. These included the Climate and Community Protection Act, which will move New York’s economy off fossil fuels, and the Environmental Bill of Rights, which will guarantee a right to clean air and water, and a healthful environment for all. While these bills did not become law during the 2018 Legislative Session, they were important issues in the fall elections and set the foundation for historic environmental legislation in the first half of 2019.

Nothing EANY has accomplished in the past and nothing that we are working on today would be possible without strong partners. Supporting environmental issues has never been more important than it is now.
