ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT AND TOXIC FUMESIn recent years Silma has invested significant resources on

research and development of flame retardant masterbatches

based on non-halogenated substances and completely free of

antimony trioxide and heavy metals.

Studies and scientific research have now well established as the

environmental impact of plastics including these kind of additive

masterbatches is negative and higly polluting due to the massive

presence of halogen compounds and antimony in soils and water.

The main reasons and causes that led to this situation are the

thirty-years use of these molecules to make self-extinguishing

plastic and the ease with they are washed and swept away by the

passage of water (waste water pipes) and their toxic fumes

dispersed in the environment due to their disposal in incinerators.
