The CT-bolt analysed, has the nominal diameter of 20mm, and is
4m long. Total weight of the CT-bolt is 13,42 kg when CombiCoat
is included, and 12,83 kg without CombiCoat. Bore hole diameter:
45-52mm. Bore hole length: bolt length + 0,2m. Produced
according to NS-EN 1090, and approved according to Statens
Vegvesen's procedures.
All the material and component input for the M20 CT-bolt are from
Norwegian suppliers, except for the steel coil, which comes from
Finland, and the expansion sleeve that comes from China. The
expansion sleeve is made from cast steel, and is ready for mounting
upon arrival. The rebar arrive in lengths of 12 meters, and are cut to
the exact length, 4 meters, and threaded in both ends. The tubes
come in standard lengths, and are cut to the right length. Then the CT-
hemisphere is shaped from tube, and friction welded to the CT-sleeve
(tube). The injection sleeve is delivered as a complete product, and is
also ready for assembly when arriving in Ørsta, as is the nut and stop
ring. The coil goes through three main steps: the hole is punched,
before it is cut in correct length, and finally drawn, which gives it its
spherical shape. The steel parts are further sealed with the corrosion
protection CombiCoat, which consists of a layer of zinc galvanization,
zinc phosphating and a layer of epoxy powder coating.

The production process at the company plant includes
material and process data for the total manufacturing and
assembly of the CT-bolt, including energy consumption. The
data was gathered specifically for the production of one CT-
bolt. Energy consumption was estimated for product
manufacturing using specific data for the machinery used, and
combined with the production time. Data regarding waste is
estimated from the factorys total waste streams, and then
adjusted down to represent the production of one CT-bolt.
Mass allocation was used to determine the waste amount per
CT-bolt.
The CT-Bolt® M20 is a steel bolt with corrosion protection, used for
rock support. It is immediately load bearing after mounting, and
becomes permanent after grouting. Can be delivered with and without
the CombiCoat corrosion protection, thus results are presented with
and without the coating.
Product description:
Technological:
Data represents technology in use. All generic (background) data
has been gathered from the PE International GaBi 6 Professional
Database and the Ecoinvent V3 database, with the exception EPD-
data used for the rebar steel and the steel tube.
All major raw materials and all the essential energy is
included. The production process for raw materials and energy
flows that are included with very small amounts (<1%) are not
included. This cut-off rule does not apply for hazardous
materials and substances.
General requirements and guidelines concerning use of generic and
specific data and the quality of those are as described in EN 15804:
2012, clause 6.3.6 and 6.3.7. The data is representative according to
temporal, geographical and technological requirements.
Data for use in module A3 is supplied by the manufacturer and consists
of the recorded amount of specific material and energy consumption for
the product studied. Specific data has been collected in 2017. Generic
data has been created or updated within the last 10 years.
The geographic region of the production sites included in the
calculation is Europe. For the production of the expansion sleeve
produced in China, Chinese electricity grid mix is used.

All key assumptions and estimates are either presented in the EPD or can be found in NPCR13Rev1 (08/2013).
The impacts generated in the life cycle stages described within the system boundaries are calculated using GaBi 6.
Background data is from the GaBi 6 professional database and Ecoinvent v3.
The impact assessment methodology used is CML 2001.
