Project 2010
What is recycling?
Recycling is the process of re-using a given product or producing a new product from a recyclable material. To recondition and adapt to a new use or function.
Why should we recycle?
*It cuts back on global warming.
*It makes us more energy-efficient.
*It keeps our landfills from overflowing.
*It improves the quality of our groundwater
*It reduces air pollution. *It creates jobs and it´s a
good business.*It adds value to
property.
Some interesting facts
Recycling 1 tone of paper saves 17 trees Recycling 1 glass bottle produces
enough electricity to light a 100-watt bulb for 4hrs
Glass takes one million years to decompose, it can be recycled an infinite number of times.
Most families throw away about 40 kg plastic a year.
Some interesting facts
Every year more than 900 million trees are cut down
Plastics can take up to 400 years to break down in a landfill.
1 bottle out of 4 is recycled The energy saved by recycling 1 bottle will
power a computer for 25 minutes. 5 plastic bottles to make a polyester T-
shirt. Recycling 1 aluminum can saves enough
energy to run your TV for 3 hours.
What can we recycle?
Glass Paper Aluminium and steel cans Textiles Plastic Organic waste Electrical and electronic equipment Batteries Hazardous waste
What will Alianza do about it?
We will collect in three bins:
Plastic Bottles Batteries Caps
What will Alianza do about it?
*Two students in the morning and two students in afternoon will be designed as leaders.
*On Monday and Tuesday students will visit the classes to explain the project.
*Every Friday these leaders will visit the classrooms to pick up the material.
*At the end of the day everything will be picked up.
*By the end of the month all the materials will be taken to the recycling factory.
Why? Because recycling is a kind of exercise: we all
know we should do it, but not all of us do it as often as we should. And some of us don’t do it at all. However, there are lots of reasons why you should make an effort to recycle as much as possible.
Students will be facilitators of the information at home of the importance of having an active and responsible role in the process of recycling, of taking care of the enviroment.
What can we do at home?
Reuse paper or plastic bags to bring home purchases.
Share magazines, books, movies and CDs with friends and family instead of buying new.
Buy recycled products — the greater the demand, the more products will be made with recycled materials.
clean bottles and tins before putting in the recycling bin. This prevents flies both at home and the recycling station.
So…
One person can make a difference, it’s easy to get discouraged, especially when the problem is so widespread.
But the truth is that small acts of recycling make a big difference. For example, recycling just one large newspaper would save around 75,000 trees.
…So why not??
So…
Many little people, in small places,
doing little things, can change the world…
