I switched my schooling focus to more science based and soaked in as much knowledge pertaining to the outdoors as I could.” Aimee, 2014 Wolf Ridge academic science immersion programs are designed to engage students from diverse ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds in authentic, hands-on science and apply that learning to real world challenges. The programs are designed to: empower students to take ownership for their learning develop academic skills and create a supportive learning community get students out of the classrooms and into the field for experiential learning use small class sizes to provide individual support extend student learning into the summer months for year-round academic enrichment connect students with professionals in a variety of outdoor and science fields so students can appreciate the career options available and develop skills that create success after high school Participants: Students in 8-12 th grade from schools in Minneapolis, St. Paul and Duluth, Minnesota. Duration: Programs run from six weeks to a full year. Partners: Get Ready (Minnesota Department of Education), the US Forest Service, Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, Minneapolis Public School District, Murray Junior High School, and the Wilderness Inquiry. Funding: Medtronic Foundation; HB Fuller Foundation; Boston Scientific Foundation; US Forest Service, The Minneapolis Foundation, The Saint Anthony Park Community Foundation, the Minnesota Office of Higher Education (through summer scholarships), the Get Ready Program, the Lloyd K. Johnson Foundation, and the Steven Leuthold Family Foundation.
