The purpose of the course is to train renovation, repair, and painting contractors how to work safely in pre1978 housing and childoccupied facilities with lead based paint and comply with EPA’s Renovation, Repair, and Painting (RRP) Rule, and HUD’s Lead Safe Housing Rule. This course also satisfies the training requirements for The Department of Energy LeadSafe Weatherization Guidance (DOE LSW). Who needs this certification? Renovators, remodelers, painters, maintenance personnel, and any other workers removing or modifying painted surfaces for compensation (40 CFR Part 745.82). They likely will be taking the course to obtain EPA certification as a Certified Renovator, which will enhance their credentials as private contractors and also satisfy HUD requirements for interim controls training in Federallyassisted target housing. The HUDrelated material will be covered, even if students are not currently working in Federally assisted target housing units. All renovators are potential HUD contractors and should know and understand this information.
