Typically, I don’t give much if any space in the newsletter to the devil. I don’t capitalize any name or word

relating to him if I can help it; he deserves no title other than murderer & liar which is the only truth about him.

However, to win the battle against someone, you need to know about them & more importantly how to overcome

them. Did you know that we are fighting a residual battle here on earth against the devil & his angels? Ephesians

6:12 – For our struggle is not against flesh & blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the power

of this world’s darkness & against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Who is that evil? It is the devil

(satan, the dragon, lucifer) & his demons. “d-evil” one is the devil.

Sometime after the 6th day of creation the devil thru pride & jealousy rebelled against God wanting everyone

to worship him instead. A war broke out in heaven Revelation 12:7-9 – Then a war (a rebellion for power) broke

out in heaven; Michael (God’s archangel of high rank) & his angels fought against the dragon (devil) & the dragon &

his angels (demons) fought back. But, the dragon was not strong enough & no longer was any place found in heaven

for him & his angels. And the great dragon was hurled down – the ancient serpent called the devil & satan (his angelic

name was lucifer), the deceiver of the whole world. He was hurled to the earth & his angels with him. Isaiah 14:12-

14 – How you are fallen from heaven, O lucifer, son of the morning! How you are cut down to the ground you who

weakened the nations! For you have said in your heart: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the

stars of God; I will also sit on the mount of the congregation on the farthest sides of the north; I will ascend above

the heights of the clouds. I will be like the Most High.”

We have seen artist’s depiction of the devil that show him as red, holding a pitchfork, horns on his head,

searing eyes, pointed teeth & a long spear pointed tail. But the Bible presents a different physical appearance.

2 Corinthians 11: 14 –And no wonder, for satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. Ezekiel 28: 12-14 – (the

devil one time maintained a high rank, serving God) You were the seal of perfection, full of wisdom & perfect in

beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone was your covering: the sardius, topaz & diamond,

beryl, onxy & jasper, sapphire, turquoise & emerald with gold. The workmanship of your timbrels (tambourines)&

pipes was prepared for you on the day you were created. You were the anointed cherub (a winged angel that attends

God) who covers; I established you; you were on the holy mountain of God; you walked back & forth in the mist of

fiery stones. One time he was perfect, but like humans he had free will & his pride & jealousy took over his heart.

When he was thrown out of heaven to the earth, the light of God left him permanently never to return.

He leads his demons to attack us in any way that he can. He uses tactics (yes, he is a tactician of war) to

deceive us as he did Eve & Adam. Jesus described the devil when He was speaking to a group of Jews & told them

in John 8:44 – “…. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him.

When he lies he speaks his native language, for he is a liar & the father of lies.” We must remember 1 Peter 5:8 –

Be sober, be vigilant, because your adversary the devil walks about as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour.

How can we defeat the devil? What tactics does he use today to pull us away from God? What has God

given to us for protection? The devil may be a tactician of war, but God is greater & has already provided an outcome

that will defeat the devil permanently. Let’s look on the next page to find the answer to these things.

WHO IS THE devil? TO UNDERSTAND him IS TO WIN THE BATTLE AGAINST him

TRUTH ABOUT THE EVIL ONE & HIS TACTICS

Paul was alerting us to the fact that the devil uses schemes

(tactics). Eph 6:11 – Stand firm against the schemes of the

devil. 2 Cor 2:11 – We are not ignorant of satan’s schemes.

Lier & deceiver- We can safely assume since we know he

has lied & deceived humans that he did the same to 1/3rd of

the angels who followed him. Do you think they would have

followed him if they knew they would suffer eternally in the

end? We don’t know what he told them, but it must have

been a whopper of a lie. Matthew 25:41 – Then He will say

to those on His left, “Depart from Me, you who are cursed,

into the eternal fire prepared for the devil & his angels.”

Jude 1:6 – And the angles who did not keep their positions

of authority but abandoned their proper dwelling-these He

has kept in darkness, bound with everlasting chains for

judgment on the great Day. Lies are his language. The

more souls he deceives with his lies the more that will suffer

with him in the fiery pit forever. In John 8:44 it says:

…..there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his

native language because he is a liar & the father of lies.

Murderer- Jesus said of the devil in John 8:44- “a

murderer from the beginning. John 10:10 - He comes only

to steal & destroy”. The devil’s goal is to take (steal) &

destroy as many humans as he can away from God. We

know that he started murdering all humankind when he

deceived Adam & Eve which allowed sin to enter the world.

All bad things come from the devil. The book of Job verified

that. Illnesses, diseases, etc. are all attributed to him & him

alone. Sometimes due to the way we live & treat our bodies

we open the door for illnesses. Suffering is delightful to him

& he hopes humans will blame God for their suffering. God

may allow these things for the purpose of lessons so humans

will learn to rely on Him, to give Him control & to be healed

& helped by Him alone. However, we must remember that

He is not the cause of anything bad. All good things come

from God. James 1:17 – Every good & perfect gift is from

above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,

who does not change life shifting shadows.

Persecution – The devil uses others to persecute Christians.

It is so evident in our world today. Many people who

believed in God were put to an agonizing death or tortured

over the centuries. Today we see on the news people being

put to death for their belief in Christ. People are trying to

stamp out Christianity. However, believers know that

whoever loses their earthly lives while maintaining their

faith in Christ the instant they die here on earth, they are

immediately with Jesus in Heaven. Jesus’ love surrounds

them & they are protected eternally.

Matthew 5:10 – Blessed are those who are persecuted

because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of

Heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you,

persecute you & falsely say all kinds of evil against

you because of me. Rejoice & be glad, because great

is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they

persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Accusations – The devil uses family, friends & even

strangers to hurt our feelings, to wrong us in some way

& to drive us away so we feel like we are alone in the

world. They can make us feel unworthy, unloved, not

good enough, ugly, too skinny/fat/tall/short, stupid,

etc. Make no mistake, God made each of us the way

he wanted us to fulfill His plan while we are on earth.

Trust Him, don’t believe the accusations the devil uses

against you. God doesn’t make junk! Isaiah 54:17 –

No weapon that is fashioned against you shall succeed

& you shall confute every tongue that rises against you

in judgement. This is the heritage of the servants of

the Lord & their vindication from Me, declares the

Lord. Psalm 139:16 – You saw me before I was born.

Everyday of my life was recorded in your book. Every

moment was laid out before a single day had passed.

Ephesians 2:10 – For we are His workmanship

created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God

prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Lies against God – The devil wants people to hate

God because of things that he, himself causes. His

goal is to get people to buy in to his lies that God is

responsible for all suffering, death, defeat, & that God

doesn’t care. He lies to create fear of not being good

enough, not having enough, even that there is no God

at all so everyone should do whatever they want to

because there is nothing that is evil. The goal is that

everyone should worship him instead. Every time

someone believes those lies, the devil laughs. 2

Corinthians 4:4 – The god (the devil) of this age has

blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot

see the light of the gospel that displays the glory of

Christ who is the image of God. But believers know

that God is real. Romans 1:20 – For the invisible

things of Him from the creation of the world are

clearly seen, being understood by the things that are

made, even His eternal power & Godhead; so that they

are without excuse. Psalms 19:1 – The heavens

declare the glory of God & the firmament shows His

handywork. God is real & we can see His creations.

They are not creations by accident. God did it all!

Bait & Switch Tactic – The devil uses many things that

look innocent & great for us, then the evil can creep in.

Technology: We can all justify the need for most

technology for jobs & communication. Let’s look at

computers, cell phones. implanted microchips.

Computers are fast & have improved business &

communication; however, there are evil web sites that

have crept in from pornography to the occult. Cell

phones are small computers & with texting our young

people have forgotten how to communicate face to face

& that makes it easier for them to bully others. Implanted

microchips started in animals to be able to find their

owners when they got lost, but now humans are starting

to implant them in themselves with all kinds of

information including banking, health, personal ID’s,

etc…. Does that remind anyone of the prediction in

Revelation? Rev.13:16 – And the second beast required

all people small & great, rich & poor, free & slave to

receive a mark on their right hand or on their forehead

so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark

– the name of the beast or the number of its name, 666.

Money: We all require money to obtain our life’s needs:

a place to live, food, health needs, transportation, etc….

However, when money becomes more important than

anything else & it dominates your life then it has taken

over. 1 Timothy 6:10 – For the love of money is a root

of all kinds of evil & by craving it some have wandered

away from the faith & pierced themselves with many

pains. Power: Since the days of the Kings people have looked

for leadership to guide & mentor them. Some people,

however, became hungry for power & have done evil in

the sight of the Lord. That can be said in Biblical times

as well as today. Some people became enslaved in

wanting all the power & control over others. They

believed they were above laws of the land. Many became

ruthless in this endeavor. Look at politics today. The

devil is trying to take over the government creating a

state of hate between the parties. This will topple

governments in a heartbeat. The people in government

have become too powerful & believe they are above the

law. They do not represent the people any longer, they

represent themselves. They have created a culture of “I

deserve it & you don’t”, “keep the masses down by

keeping power within a few”, “when we keep the power

in our party we rule the United States” “people don’t

know what is good for them, we do”, etc…

This power can also affect people at their work or in their

homes. It is the person that can overcome this if they are

a believer. Romans 12:21 – Do not be overcome by evil,

but overcome evil with good. Hebrews 3:13 – But exhort

one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that

none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Colossians 3:23 -Whatever you do, work heartily, as for

the Lord & not for men.

The occult: The use of ouija boards to contact entities that

have passed allow demons to enter into your life. It seems

like a harmless board game & that is the draw at first.

However, when you delve into this type of activity you are

letting in evil entities. How about TV? There are many

good programs; however, again slowly innocent shows on

witchcraft entered & now there are satanic movies &

shows. They even have one dedicated to lucifer! Parents

have to be in control of what their children watch. They

need to be vocal about why some programs & movies are

actually devil inspired. Remember Proverbs 22:6 – Train

up a child in the way he should go, & when he is old he

will not depart from it. As the parent you are the example

that they will follow. I understand that there is now a

Barbie doll that is promoted as a witch. Again, a seemingly

innocent thing as a doll can be used by the devil.

Temptation – We can be tempted by our own desires.

Humans can justify anything if they want it bad enough.

Even Jesus was tempted when He was in the wilderness

for 40 days. He did not do battle physically with weapons,

but with spiritual truths “words”. He would recount all of

the devil’s twisted Biblical quotes as well as his

suggestions by saying “It is written”. Only the devil can

tempt…God does not tempt. James 1:13 – When tempted,

no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot

be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone. But each

one is tempted when by his own evil desires he is lured

away & enticed. Then after desire has conceived, it gives

birth to sin & sin when it is fully grown, gives birth to

death. 1 Corinthians 10:13 – No temptation has

overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful

& He will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but

with the temptation He will also provide the way of escape

that you may be able to endure it. Luke 22:40 – And when

He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may

not enter into temptation.” Even the Lord’s prayer tells us

to pray: let us not be led into temptation.

Each person knows their own temptations they face &

have the opportunity to overcome them thru God’s word.

Each one of us must answer to God for our choices.

OTHER THINGS ATTRIBUTED TO THE EVIL ONE There are so many other things people face in their lives that

come from the devil.

Physical/Mental/Alcohol/Chemical Abuse: Whether it is

physical, mental, alcohol or chemical abuse, the devil is just

waiting & scheming to instill these evil things into

unsuspecting humans to ruin their & other people’s lives up

to & including death. Thankfully, we know through the

scriptures that abuse of humans & God’s animals alike will

be dealt with by the Lord Himself. Psalm 34:17,18 – When

the righteous cry for help, the Lord hears & delivers them

out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to the

brokenhearted & saves the crushed in spirit. Psalm 103:6

– The Lord works righteousness & justice for all who are

oppressed.

Hate/Anger: The devil promotes hate while God promotes

love. James 1:19,20 – Know this my beloved brothers: let

every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;

for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of

God. Proverbs 29:11 – Fools give full vent to their rage,

but the wise bring calm in the end.

Arrogance/Pride/Self-Absorbed: The devil fell because

of his pride. It is a state of mind that some people feel that

they are better than others. They are so absorbed in their

lives & what they think they deserve that that forget about

everyone else around them. Usually when they do think

about others it is to use them as a stepping stone to attain

something for themselves. God warns us in

Proverbs 16:18 – Pride goes before destruction, a haughty

spirit before a fall. Proverbs 6:17 says pride (haughty eyes)

is one of the things that the Lord hates.

Discouragement: If the devil can convince people that they

are not good enough, they don’t have enough, or that they

are inundated with negative things happening to them all the

time then he can keep them down & discouraged about life.

They are miserable & feel rejected by life. The devil loves

this tactic. John 8:44 - The devil is a liar!

Distractions: Too busy to read the word, to study about

God & His promises, to fellowship at church & Bible

Studies? If the devil can keep you preoccupied with work,

family, events, emergencies, & even weather then he has

successfully denied you the fellowship & learning

opportunities that God has provided for you. Heb 10:24,25

– let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and

good deeds, 25 not forsaking our own assembling together,

as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and

all the more as you see the day drawing near. Col 2:2-4

- that their hearts may be encouraged, having been knit

together in love, and attaining to all the wealth that comes

from the full assurance of understanding, resulting in a true

knowledge of God’s mystery, that is, Christ Himself, 3 in

whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and

knowledge. 4 I say this so that no one will delude you with

persuasive argument.

Murder: Murder is when a person “unlawfully” takes

a life, when it is done with “premediated malice.” Also,

it is murder when an innocent life is taken such as

abortion. Killing in defense of self or nation is justified.

Accidental or unintentional killing is not murder. The

10 Commandments in Exodus 10 says “Thou shalt not

murder” not thou shall not kill. All of this being said,

murder & killing would never have been in the world

had the devil not plotted & schemed his way through

Adam & Eve to bring sin into the world. He was the

first murderer of innocent human beings. John 8:44 –

he was a murderer from the beginning.

I am sure you can name many, many other tactics the

devil uses. These are just a few, but if you know &

understand them then you can win the battle over his

schemes to have us deny God & worship him.

HOW DO WE WIN OVER THE EVIL ONE?

The battles with the devil are in the spiritual realm.

Here on earth we fight the residual battles in our

physical world against his influences, schemes &

tactics. Our battle weapons are all revealed in the Bible

& we use them vocally & mentally. Remember Jesus

did not fight the devil with physical weapons in the

wilderness; He used His knowledge of the Words of His

Father. “It is written” 2 Cor 10:3-5 – For though we

live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does.

The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the

world. On the contrary, they have divine power to

demolish strongholds. We demolish arguments &

every pretension that sets itself up against the

knowledge of God & we take captive every thought to

make it obedient to Christ.

God gave us holy spiritual armor to use daily.

Eph 6: 11-17 - Put on the full armor of God, so that

you can take your stand against the devil's schemes.

For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but

against the rulers, against the authorities, against the

powers of this dark world and against the spiritual

forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore, put on

the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil

comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after

you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then,

with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with

the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your

feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel

of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of

faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming

arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and

the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God." Isa 41:10 –“Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t

be discouraged for I am your God. I will strengthen

you & help you. I will hold you up with My victorious

right hand.”

I thank the Holy Spirit for inspiring & providing the

information this week that God wanted presented.
