1.0 INTRODUCTION

1.1 This Method Statement describes the procedure to be followed and the sequence

of operations for this section of the works, which deals with the performance of

the epoxy screed or mortar (5 mm thick.) to be applied on the concrete floors of

the specified buildings according to the project specifications and drawings.

1.2 This Method Statement is prepared and issued in accordance with the general

procedure Control of Documents and Data.

1.3 Revisions of this document will be issued in accordance with the general

procedure Control of Documents and Data when the main text changes or when

an appendix is added. Revised appendices for substitution will be issued

separately and, where appropriate, will include a separate schedule of contents.

2.0 HEALTH, SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENT

All necessary measures and precaution will be taken so that the above operations

comply with the required safety regulations and procedures as described in the

project HSE plan.

3.0 RESOURCES

3.1 Manpower

The required manpower will be deployed to assist on the cleaning, mixing

material, application and all related works

3.2 EQUIPMENT

Mechanical grinder or sand blaster

Mechanical mixer

Air compressor.

Brushes and rollers.

Trowels.

3.3 Material

Primer:

The approved material Mastertop 1200 M (By MBT) with low viscosity and

solvent free epoxy- primer will be used as a primer, or equivalent material

SIKA FLOOR 94 (By SIKA), see the data sheets in appendix (C)

Epoxy screed:

The approved material Mastertop 1240 M (By MBT) will be used as epoxy

mortar, it is a Multi component epoxy screed consists of three components

OR material SIKA FLOOR 91 (By SIKA) may be used as an equivalent

material, see the data sheets in appendix (C)

Sealer:

Mastertop 1200 M (By MBT) or equivalent material SIKA FLOOR 94 (By

SIKA) will be used as sealer, see the data sheets in appendix (C)

4.0 Methodology:

After finishing the concrete curing and the surface become very dry, the epoxy

mortar will be applied as follows as per Construction Revised Drawings:

4.1 Materials.

The Materials will be used as per described in Clause 3.3

4.2 Inspection Requests

The Contractor will submit before starting the Epoxy mortar work inspection

request for position of the working area.

4.3 APPLICATION METHOD

4.3.1 Surface preparation

A- Levelling control for surface during concrete pouring

The upper surface for floor concrete must be finished by class U1 as per spcs

clause 3.12.3 (a) .

The concrete surface for large area will be levelled and finished by helicopter

or similar equipment.

B- Levelling control for surface after concrete setting

The concrete floor shall be levelled prior to apply the epoxy screed. The areas

with higher concrete level shall be chipped and removed.

Repairing (if needed) of major defects shall be carried out.

Surface shall be mechanically grinned (if needed) to remove all the loose

particles until getting a sound concrete surface.

Cleaning shall be carried out using the compressed air or industrial vacuum.

In case of fair face finishing, area shall be mechanically brushed in order to

increase the mechanical bond with the epoxy screed.

4.3.2 Limitation for working areas

A- Application on concrete surface without joints:

The whole area will be divided to small areas with dimension depending on the

rate of works, number of resources and setting time.

The cold joint (joint during the construction) between each sub-area will not

appeared after work completion due to the chemical bonding properties for the

epoxy mortar materials.

B- Application on concrete surface including joints:

For large areas, which include concrete joints as per the workshop slab on

grade, the application area for epoxy mortar will depend on the area between

these joints.

The position and detail of these joints will be performed as per construction

drawings and the joints to be filled with joint sealant.

4.3.3 SURFACE PRIMING

The surface to be cleaned before primer application.

The base and reactor of the primer shall be mixed together and applied on the

surface by brush or roller.

Wait for 30 minutes after priming prior to lay the epoxy screed.

4.3.4 Screed application

The base and reactor shall be mixed together to a uniform consistency, and

then added to the aggregate (filler material) in the mixer.

Mixing shall continue for 5 minutes.

The mixture shall be placed in the area surrounded by glass (or steel) strips as

battens with average thickness 5 mm.

Compacting and levelling the surface shall be carried out using metal

straightedge and surface finishing shall be conducted using metal trowels.

4.3.5 SEALING

After the screed getting hard, the epoxy sealer can be applied to the surface to

get a glossy and hard surface.

4.3.6 CURING

The screed may be left for 7 days prior to open it for traffic in order to guarantee

a high performance.

Cleaning. Primer Application. Epoxy Mortar Application. Sealing Application

5.0 Measurements

Measurements for Epoxy screed (5 mm thick) will be according to the joint measurements and contract drawings. The interim and final evaluation of quantities after completion of works will be done similarly.
