FROM THE PRINCIPAL

INCIDENT AT EPPING PUBLIC SCHOOL

Last Thursday a note was sent home indicating there was a suspected gas leak at school. I would like to congratulate

our students and staff on their action in response to the situation. Everyone was evacuated from the area, gas was

turned off at the main and the fire brigade called. On arrival the fire brigade tested the area and was able to report

there was no sign of gas in the suspected area. On further investigation by plumbers there was an old valve which

had some gas in it and was releasing a very small amount of gas. This has since been capped and everything is now

fine. I would like to point out, although there was never any danger in this situation it was great to see the drills we

carry out on a regular basis went into action. I would like to congratulate Mr Day who coordinates our Health &

Safety Program on his leadership in ensuring everything went as practised.

STAGE 3 END OF YEAR ACTIVITY

At present much of our state is in the worst drought in history and we are about to go to Level 2 water restrictions.

Whilst we have access to tank water I believe it would be irresponsible for us to proceed with the Stage 3 Water Day.

I believe our community will understand this decision. I know the students do look forward to this activity and we

are presently investigating other options to ensure it is a special day for our Year 6 students.

WELCOME TO EPPING

I can now let our community know that our new Deputy Principal is Mrs Sarah Semler from Excelsior Public School in

Castle Hill. I know that Mrs Semler will add value to our school community as she brings with her a wealth of

experience and ideas. Mrs Semler will commence duty day 1 next year but will be involved in our planning days this

year. On behalf of our school community I welcome Mrs Semler to Epping Public School and look forward to her

being an integral part of our leadership team from next year.

STUDENTS NOT RETURNING

As the countdown to the end of the year commences I must now turn my attention to not only the move but the

organisation of classes for 2020. To determine the make-up of our classes for 2020 I need to know how many

students will be at our school. Whilst the number of new students commencing can vary due to the new people

moving into the area I need to be aware of students who will not be returning or returning late. If you know that

your child or children will not be returning or will be returning after the start date of January 29, please click on the

link below and provide details.

CANTEEN NEWS For the rest of term, Canteen will operate as follows: Wed 27 November - OPEN Fri 29 November - OPEN Wed 4 December - OPEN Fri 6 December – CLOSED (Presentation Day) Wed 11 December - OPEN Fri 13 December - OPEN Wed 18 December – CLOSED (Last school day)

During this time canteen will need to clear out its freezers, fridge and storage areas so it can undertake a clean before the holidays. Some canteen items may become unavailable as stock runs down. We will endeavour to update the FlexiSchools menu to reflect what is available. If a student orders an item that runs out on the day, they will be offered an alternative.

** Helpers and Coordinators NEEDED in 2020 **

At the end of this year, we will lose some of our amazing canteen helpers and coordinators as students move onto high school, or personal circumstances change. In 2020, we need more volunteers to support the canteen’s ongoing operation. If we do not get enough volunteers, we will not be able to keep the canteen open!

Currently we open Wednesdays and Fridays. For 2020, we are exploring the option of opening up on Monday as well. This can only happen if we have the necessary support of the school community!

We welcome new and returning volunteers for Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday. No experience necessary! It’s a great way to meet other school

parents/grandparents and your children will love to see you at school.

Coordinator roles are crucial for the effective running of the canteen but you are well supported by the Canteen Committee and training will be provided. Two or more parents may like to team up to form a coordinators team for one of the canteen days! A hardcopy of the canteen volunteer form is going home to all families this week. Please complete and return the form to the school office collection box ASAP if you can help in any way or email [email protected] if you have any questions!

Thank you EPS Canteen Committee
