Practical EQ
What is EQ?
“Your EQ is the level of your ability to understand other people, what motivates them
and how to work cooperatively with them,” (Howard Gardner)
Why is it useful?
EQ is key in creating healthy, successful, collaborative relationships and team
environments, where challenges can be dealt with efficiently.
Developing a mature EQ means learning how to better understand, react to them
appropriately, and negotiate with others.

Practical EQ
Focus on Focus
• Stay on a difficult task,
• Don't get distracted
• Practice: defining a task and sticking with it (even a
“mindless” one is good for practice)
How long do you usually
stay with one task? Do
you work on multiple
projects? Do you
“multitask”?

Practical EQ

• Encourage people to speak
• Give genuine recognition & praise
• Take a personal interest in people
• What was “under-water” in the Iceberg?
