Cameras

You could use a camera for a theatrical performance to record it, either so the cast can take it home, or throughout rehearsals so the cast can learn the play better.

Another use for a camera is to show a live feed so people far away can see the stage on large screens.

This camera is a Sony HVR-Z1. This camera can be used for both a live feed

and recording a performance simultaneously

I have found all of my technical data research from - http://www.sony.co.uk/pro/product/broadcast-products-camcorders-hdv-dvcam/hvr-z1e/overview/

• Through the HDV format Sony's HVR-Z1E allows you to capture High Definition pictures on a standard DV format cassette - providing both a highly cost effective format and full 1080 line resolution.

Lens

Carl Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* zoom lens, 12x (optical)f = 4. 5 to 54 mmf = 32.5 to 390 mm (*2) at 16:9 modef = 40 to 480 mm (*2) at 4:3 modeF = 1.6 to 2.8, filter diameter: 72 mm

I found two different prices – I have found a second hand one for £850 and a Brand new one for £1,349. I have also found out that this camera is discontinued.

Its highly suited to the theatre with its high quality zoom without losing any quality because its placed far away.

This is a diagram that I found in the manual, it shows a quick start guide.

Advantages:You can capture any activity at anytime in real time. You can store footage via a tape to look back at and edit.Because this camera is HD it means that the footage recorded is High quality. This camera has 12x Optical zoom, this means that this camera can zoom in and keep a certain quality.Disadvantages:This camera uses a tape which could get wrapped around a spindle and ruin the footage. The lens on the camera is fragile and can break / scratch easily. This camera has a facility to use a battery the disadvantage to this is that the battery life is only 3-4 hours.

Where would you use it and why?

You would set up the camera on the balcony so you could see everyone on the stage and there are no obstructions in frame, by using a high location this gives you the chance to see the depth of the stage, if this was to be placed on the floor you wouldn’t get the depth of the stage.

Short Throw ProjectorInformation taken from http://www.projectorpeople.com/resources/short-throw.asp

Short throw and ultra short throw projectors allow users to create big pictures in tight spaces, without concerns about shadows obstructing the image or light shining in the presenter's face.

Projector Type

Throw Ratio Distance From Screen

Projected Diagonal Image

Regular Projector 1.5:1 7.5 feet 5 feet

Short Throw Projector 0.6:1 3 feet 5 feet

Ultra Short Throw Projector

0.37:1 1.4 feet 5 feet

You can use a short throw project in a room or space to small for a long throw projector. An example of this could be a classroom.

There are many kinds of short throw projectors.

Rear projector is sometimes used over front projectors because if somebody walk’s in front of it, it casts a shadow, health and safety issues with it entering peoples eyes or somebody could knock into it. However the image is darker as its got to travel through the materiel unlike a front projection where its straight projection.

Long Throw Projector

It can be high definition Can be connected to a

PC, Camera or DVD Has USB, Kettle lead, VGA

Cables, Phono Cable ports

The further it is from where it’s going to project, the bigger it is

The image can be inverted to accommodate the back of the stage

The kind of projector is mostly used at a long distance

Parcans

A parcan has a gel frame, an adjustable arm, bulb is

encased unit, 15 amp plug, g-clamp and a safety chain.

A parcan can be used instead of a spotlight is some cases to give a better coverage rather

than specifically one spot.Often used in gigs due to it being simple to use but has many uses. It can be used in

a chase sequence and to bring depth to colour.

The beam angle is 24 degrees

LED Parcan’s

A LED Parcan has a G clamp, Adjustable arm, Safety chain

and a 13 amp plug. Its more affiant than a regular Parcan as doesn’t need gels to

change its color and it has energy saving bulbs.

It uses indirect beams of light for general cover. It can auto

change but can also be controlled from a lighting

desk.Its beam angle is 15 to 40

degrees

CCT (Fresnel)

The beam angle is 10 to 59.Commonly used in

productions and shows.630 watts

It has an adjustable knob to adjust the beam angle

The light can be manipulated by using barn doors

Different colour filters can be used to depict an specific atmosphere you want or

need
