ERAE U KCULTRASILENCED AIR COOLED CHILLERS WITH SCROLL COMPRESSORS AND AXIAL FANSFOR OUTDOOR INSTALLATION.

The air condensed chillers ERAE U Kc series are suitable for outdoor installation. They areprovided with axial fans in composite material, highly efficient plate finned exchangers and scrollcompressors with orbiting spirals, running with one or two independent cooling circuits (withR410A) in single, tandem or trio configuration. The multi-scroll technology allows to reach avisible improvement of the partial load efficiency if compared to other traditional cooling orheating power control systems. These units are used for cooling of liquid solutions circulating inthe conditioning plants or liquids for industrial processes. Production of hot water it’s availablewith the additional heat recovery heat exchanger.The sound level is reduced through the electronic control of fans speed (that reduces the air flowin coil in modulating manner) and insulation of compressor compartment with sound-proofmaterial of higher thickness. All the units have been designed considering necessity to minimizeoverall dimensions keeping high performances and output cooling and heating capacities. All theunits are totally factory assembled and tested following specific quality procedures and arealready provided with all the cooling, hydraulic and electric connections required for a quickinstallation on site. Before the test, all the cooling circuits for each unit are leakage tested underpressure and then charged with refrigerant R410a and anti-freeze oil.

Construction features.

Thanks to the applied design technology, chillers are able to control with high precision the outletfluid temperature from the exchanger (user’s side), modulating the cooling or heating capacity tothe plant’s requirement, all automatically managed by the on-board microprocessor. Hightechnology used in design stage, as well as the use of the best components present on market,make the units very reliable and thus able to work for long periods without stop. These units areparticularly easy for installation even in limited spaces and easily accessible for ordinary andextraordinary maintenance on the front part of the unit.

Frame.

The structure is made of base and frame manufactured in high-thickness galvanized steelelements, assembled with stainless steel rivets. All the external galvanized steel surfaces arepowder-coated with color RAL7035.The structural elements are fixed firmly making the frame very strong and able to support all theunit components and absorb any mechanical stress due to handling and running of the unit. Thetechnical compartments of electric board and compressors are completely closed and separatedfrom the airflow. The external panels of technical compartments are easily dismountable and

positioned laterally assuring total accessibility to the main components. Moreover, thecomponents are arranged inside the structure in a way to make easy and safe necessary serviceoperations while running and also maintenance of the unit.

Compressors.

High efficiency scroll compressors with orbiting spirals (EER 3,37 at ARI conditions) for refrigerantR410A, with direct start motors with low sound level, equipped with incorporated thermistorprotection with manual reset that protects motors from overloading. The compressors in single,tandem or trio configuration are installed on rubber vibration dampers, charged with polyester oiland equipped with oil crankcase heater. For the units with 2 cooling circuits, if there is a problemon one of two circuits, it is anyway granted the operation of the unit at 50% of its nominal coolingcapacity. During the unit running at partial loads, the on-board microprocessor is able to managestart and stop of the compressors in order to assure the necessary capacity, working at maximumvalues of efficiency.

Axial fans.

The fans, serving external heat-exchange coils, are of axial type, with directly coupled three-phase electrical motor, with IP 54 protection degree, class F, and provided with internal thermalprotection to the electrical motor winding. The blades are made of aluminum and their particularprofile geometry is designed to minimize the turbulences in the zone of air separation (reducing inthis way the sound level and increasing efficiency). Each fan is equipped with suction opening andprotection grid against accidents, painted after construction. In the ultra-silenced version,available only in chiller mode, it is possible to require axial fans with electronic commutation thatallow constant speed regulation through the 0-10 V signal, managed completely frommicroprocessor. With the fans of this type, the air flow to the heat-exchange coil is regulatedmore accurately and this allows to the unit to run with the external air temperatures to -20°C,keeping high efficiency of the cycle.

Condensing coils.

The air heat-exchange coils are made of micro-finned copper pipes and disposed accordingunmatched levels, mechanically expanded inside the aluminium finned pack to maximize the heatexchange efficiency. They are suitably sized in order to have a wide exchange surface to grantcorrect operation of the units with high external air temperatures as well. On freon side, theworking pressure of external exchange coils is 45 barg. On demand, if they are installed inparticularly aggressive environments, various coil protection treatments are available (forexample, treatment with epoxy coating (option RM) through the pre painting of the fins).

Evaporator heat exchanger.

User’s side exchanger of plate type realized with AISI 316, with single or double circuit, withchannels and patented distributor which allow to reach an high heat exchange coefficient. Theirdesign helps a uniform water distribution compatibly with the pressure drops. It is supplied withclose cells insulating material covering. Moreover the exchanger is provided with a safety waterflow switch that doesn’t allow the unit operation in case of low water flow to the exchanger. Themaximum running pressure is 45 barg on freon side.

Electric board and on-board microprocessor.

Electric board is built in compliance with norms in force, realized inside a metal compartmentintegrated inside the cabinet of the unit, protection degree IP54, suitable for outdoor installationand separated from air flow. Inside the electric board with 3–phase and 400 V electric supply, areplaced all the components of the control system, power and control electric devices and devicesrequired for motors start. Electric board contains microprocessor electronic board provided withkeyboard and display to show available functions, lock-door main switch, anti-condensing electricheater of thermostat, isolation transformer to feed auxiliary circuits, automatic switches, fusesand contactors for compressors and fans motors, terminals for cumulative alarms and remoteON/OFF, control terminal box of spring type, possibility of interface with BMS managementsystems.The unit control system is integrated in the electronic microprocessor, installed inside the electricboard. The microprocessor consists of electronic control board (complete with terminals fortransmission of operating parameters) and an interface board for user (equipped withprogramming buttons and graphic display for visualization of operation states and alarmmessages).

Cooling circuits.

The cooling equipment of the unit is interconnected through pure copper piping. All the weldingjoints are made through a braze welding process and in inert ambient with double weld materialpass. Each cooling circuit is finally tested with double pressure test. The first test is made beforethe performance test whereas the second one is made before the unit shipping. During thesetests besides the mechanical tightness, a further control of the tightness through leak detectionusing suitable highly sensible tools is made. In the units with two cooling circuits, the circuits areindependent and if there is a problem on one of two circuits, it is anyway granted the operation ofthe unit at 50% of its nominal characteristics. Each circuit is complete with service valve forrefrigerant charging, anti-freeze probe, shut-off valve on liquid line, liquid and humidity sightglass, dehydrating filter, safety valve on refrigerant high pressure side, and thermostaticexpansion valve, high and low pressure switches and gauges.

Cooling circuits and hydronic diagram for ERAE U Kc.The cooling circuit of vapor compression type is composed of SCROLL hermetic compressors,charged with polyester oil, thermostatic expansion valve, dehydrating filter, liquid sight glass,safety valve with directed outlet, placed on the condensation side, mechanical safety pressureswitches against overloading with manual reset, high and low pressure gauges for refrigerant andshut-off valves on liquid line (on request on discharge and suction of compressor).

The compressors are SCROLL compressors with orbiting spirals. They can run in single, tandem ortrio configuration on one or two totally independent circuits. The new constructive technologies,applied in realization of these compressors, allow them to operate within very extendedtemperature limits, keeping high values of volumetric efficiency too.

For protection of electric motor there is an electronic module equipped with thermistors in thestator winding, the function of which is monitoring of their temperature. If the temperature

overcomes the fixed limit, the electronic module interrupts electric supply of the compressor’smotor. In order to recover the running conditions the manual reset is necessary. The compressorsare supplied with oil crankcase heater for oil heating and are installed on vibration dampers.

The liquid line is equipped with shut-off valve, dehydrating filter with interchangeable solidcartridge, purposely designed for specific applications on R410A plants, thermostatic expansionvalve properly sized and able to control the overheating to the compressor even in differentrunning conditions.

On demand, the unit can be equipped with condensing heat recovery exchangers, partial or total(option RP or RT). The last one is activated in parallel to the main air condenser.

A Amperometer: Electrical device to measure the electrical current absorbed by the unit.AE Electrical power supply different than standard: 230 V three-phase, 460 V three-phase.

Frequency 50/60 Hz.BT Low external air temperature operation: Electronic device of phase cut-off type for the

modulating control of the condensing pressure through the variation of the fan rotationspeed which allows the functioning of the unit till - 8°C of external air temperature(Alternative to BF and EC). (Already included in ERAE U Kc series).

BF Electronic device, frequency converter type (inverter), for the continuous modulatingcontrol of the condensing pressure through the variation of the fan rotation speed, whichallows the functioning till -20°C of external air temperature (Alternative to BT and EC).(Available for ERAE U Kc only).

CF Soundproofed compressors cabinet with standard material: Insulation of compressors by acabinet coated with 25 mm thick sound and fireproofing material.

CFU Soundproofed compressors cabinet with higher thickness material: Compressor insulationwith high-density sound and fireproofing materials of higher thickness. (Already included inERAE U Kc series).

CFT Overall compressor and technical compartment cabinet: Insulation of compressor andtechnical compartment with sound and fireproofing materials of 25 mm thickness. (Notavailable for 6-8-10 fans version) (For 1 fan version, this option corresponds to option CF).

CS Compressors inrush counter: Electromechanical device positioned inside the electricalboard, recording the total inrush starts of compressors.

EC Axial fans with electronic commutation: highly efficient, made of composite material, withexternal rotor directly coupled to a three-phase electronically commutated motor (EC),allow continuous regulation of speed by means of a 0-10V signal, completely managed bythe microprocessor. Thanks to a more accurate adjustment of air flow, they allow operationof the unit with external temperature till - 20 °C (Alternative to BT and BF). (Available forRAE /S /U Kc only).

GP Protection grid for condensing coil: Painted metal grid to protect against accidentalimpacts.

GP2 Anti-intrusion grid: Metal protection grid to protect compressors and exchangers. (Notavailable for CF, CFU or CFT)

GP3 Anti-intrusion grid with compressors cabinet: Anti-intrusion metal protection coupled withsoundproofed compressor cabinet. (Available with options CF or CFU only).

IH RS 485 Serial interface: Electronic card to be connected to the microprocessor to allowconnection of the units to external supervision systems, for remote control and monitoringof the unit. (Alternative to IH LON and IWG).

IH-LON Serial interface for LON protocol: Electronic card to be connected to the microprocessorto allow connection of the units to supervision systems with LON protocol, for a remotecontrol and monitoring of the unit. (Alternative to IH and IWG).

IM Sea-wood packing: Fumigated sea-wood case and protection bag with hygroscopic salts,suitable for long sea transports.

IWG SNMP or TCP/IP Protocol serial interface: Electronic card to be connected to themicroprocessor to allow connection of the units to supervision systems with SNMP orTCP/IP protocol, for a remote control and monitoring of the unit. (Alternative to IH or IHLON).

MF Phase monitor: Electronic device that checks the correct sequence and/or the lack of one ofthe 3 phases, switching off the unit if necessary.

PA Rubber-type vibration dampers: Bell-shaped vibration damping supports for isolating theunit on the support base frame (supplied in kit), made of base and bell in galvanized ironand natural rubber mixture.

PM Spring-type vibration dampers: Spring-type vibration damping supports, for isolating theunit on the support base frame (supplied in kit), mainly indicated for installation in difficultand aggressive environments. Made of two containing plates and a suitable quantity ofharmonic steel springs.

PQ Remote display: remote display allows visualization of the temperature values detected byprobes, digital alarm inputs, outputs and remote ON/OFF of the unit, modification andprogramming of the parameters, signaling and visualization of the present alarms.

RA Anti-freeze heater on evaporator: Electrical heater installed inside the evaporator, in orderto prevent freezing, equipped with independent thermostat.

RD Shut-off valve on compressors discharge side: Used to isolate compressors during serviceoperations.

RF System of power factor correction cosfi≥0,9: electrical device composed of appropriateelectric capacity for power factor correction of the compressors , ensuring a cosphi value≥0,9, so to reduce the reactive power absorption from the electrical network.

RH Shut-off valve on suction side: Used to isolate compressors during service operations.RL Compressors overload relays: electromechanical protection devices against compressors

overload.RM Condensing coil with pre-painted fins: double superficial treatment of the condensing coils

with epoxy coating.RP Partial heat recovery: (about 20%) of condensing heat through a refrigerant/water plate

exchanger (desuperheater) always in series to the compressors. It is used when it isnecessary to recover partially condensing heat for production of sanitary hot water.

RR Copper/Copper condensing coil: special execution of the condensing coils with copper pipesand fins.

RT Total heat recovery: recovery (100%) of condensing heat through refrigerant/water heatexchanger managed in commutation to the condensing air section (introduced in parallel).

It is used when it is necessary to recover completely condensing heat for production ofsanitary hot water or for heating applications.

RV Personalized frame painting in a color alternative to RAL color.TE Electronic thermostatic valve: electronic thermostatic valve that reduces the response

times of the unit. Useful in case of frequent changes of cooling load in order to improve theunit efficiency.

V Voltmeter: electronic device measuring electrical voltage of the unit power supply.VB Brine Version: Unit suitable for working with evaporator outlet water temperatures lower

than 0°C. A 20 mm evaporator insulation is provided.VS Solenoid valve: Electromagnetic solenoid valve on each cooling circuit to cut off the liquid

line at compressors stop.
