MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENCY Dear colleague, Before I get started, I want to welcome you not only to Portugal, but especially to Instituto Superior de Agronomia. I also wish you the best in this new stage of your academic journey. This semester that lies ahead of you will be, without a shadow of doubt, an enriching and unique experience in your life. ISA is a very particular college with its own individual environment. In the next 6 months, you will have time to explore every little corner of ISA’s 120ha and to uncover lost secrets of Tapada da Ajuda. Not to mention that you will find that ISA can be a very cozy “foster house”! In a way of helping you out during this new journey of yours, AEISA gathered all the information you need to know about our beautiful city, our institute and all other institutes where you might need to go to. The next few months may turn out to be pretty restless due to the big integration process that you will find yourself caught in. There will be a lot for you to catch up with, not only studies, gatherings and news, as well as all the parties! However, AEISA’s effort to help you doesn’t finish in the end of this guide: throughout the semester AEISA will be developing and planning plenty of activities that will bring you closer to the life in our college, as well as outside it. At AEISA headquarters you can find the friendly, and always ready to help, Anabela. She is the one you can always look for in case you need help or if you’re having any problem during your stay in ISA. You may also want to take in consideration that AEISA headquarters is opened from 9:30AM until 5:30PM and that you can always just pass by if you have some leisure time to spend. If you want to practice any sport you may enroll in one, or several, of AEISA’s sport teams. We have three male teams for: Rugby; Soccer 11; and Basketball. And two female teams for: Soccer; and Volley. To enroll in any of them, all you have to do is pass by AEISA secretariat. Although, if your interest is more inclined towards science matters, then you may want to, be a part of one of ISA’s nuclei. Or, if you feel that maybe you’re more into cultural activities, then spend some time with our tunas; male (AgriculTuna) and female (Tunassa). You also don’t want to miss out on the opportunity of becoming a member of AEISA. It gives you many benefits, such as discounts in: ISA’s bar; copyIs@; gyms; hotels; public pools; copy centers; adventure parks; museums; and more for only 10€! To do so, all you have to do is pass by AEISA secretariat. Last but not least, I truly wish you the best semester of your life during your stay in our glorious Institute, and that you may experience, and retain, the best memories of all the good moments I’m sure you shall have during your journey here. Agronomic greetings, AEISA Presidency.

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENCY

Dear colleague,

Before I get started, I want to welcome you not only to Portugal, but especially to Instituto Superior

de Agronomia.

I also wish you the best in this new stage of your academic journey. This semester that lies ahead of

you will be, without a shadow of doubt, an enriching and unique experience in your life.

ISA is a very particular college with its own individual environment. In the next 6 months, you will

have time to explore every little corner of ISA’s 120ha and to uncover lost secrets of Tapada da Ajuda. Not to

mention that you will find that ISA can be a very cozy “foster house”!

Last but not least, I truly wish you the best semester of your life during your stay in our glorious Institute, and that you may experience, and retain, the best memories of all the good moments I’m sure you shall have during your journey here.

Agronomic greetings,

AEISA Presidency.

allow the rational use of resources needed for life and welfare of the population. The

objectives of the course require the acquisition of knowledge about the capacity of natural

systems, soil use, human behavior and the basic principles of planning and landscape

construction. During formation, students are encouraged to seek the best organization of

outer space while minimizing the negative impacts of their intervention in the environment.

BIOLOGY

Biology currently encompasses a huge range of areas that can go from

biomolecules to biosystems up, through the cellular structure, organisms and populations.

These areas are involved in important issues such as gene therapies, global change,

natural resource degradation, biodiversity loss, water pollution and air pollution,

treating and recycling waste, etc.

The skills acquired by graduates of the first cycle in biology have to be aware that

biology is an experimental science. Thus, they should:

o Master the scientific method and be able to undertake a critical way of thinking;

o Be able to understand the problems they face and have the ability to search for

information needed to address them;

o Be able to relate science, technology and society and have a humanistic view of

Biology;

o Be able to have discussions about intervention and the limits and dangers of

certain technologies and have an important role in educa ting the people

explaining the principles underlying biotechnology and ecological problems

that give rise to ethical problems;
