Principal's Message
Greetings everyone! It is hard to believe we are in November. It seems like yesterday when it was
the first day of school. November will be another busy and exciting month at Herbert
School. Highlights for the month of November include our Senior Girls Volleyball team hosting
the Conference playoffs on November 4th
, report cards on November 17th
, and student led
conferences on November 21st and 22
nd . Another major event for our school in November is the
Scholastic Book Fair which will occur during student led conferences.
I want to take this time to thank all of our parent/guardian volunteers who have helped out during
the first two months of school. On behalf of the students and staff, I want to thank our volunteers
who have driven for athletic events, coached our junior boys and girls volleyball teams,
volunteered in our library, volunteered in our classrooms, and helped with our hot lunches. Thank
you to all of our parents for taking the time to volunteer at our school. We sincerely appreciate all
of the support you provide our school. If you are interested in volunteering at our school, please
do not hesitate to contact me.
I wish everyone a terrific month of November!
Sincerely
Mr. Arron Kohlman

SCC News
School Community Council
November Report
It’s hard to believe that November is already here! The school year seems to be flying by and Christmas
break will be here before we know it.
The SCC is pleased to be providing hot lunches three times monthly again this school year. Our selection
remains the same as last year with McFlurry day, Pizza Hut personal pan pizzas, and subs from Klassens Country
Cut Meats in Herbert. This year we are trying a new format for ordering by having the forms sent out once a
month to order your choice of the hot lunches for the month ahead. For any parents who do not receive these order
forms or change your mind about ordering hot lunch, please contact me or Cheryn de Bruyn. Order forms are
sent home with K – 6 students, are posted on the school website, and in the high school foyer.
The SCC has been working hard on brainstorming activities that align with our engagement plan for the
2017/18 school year. Once again this year we want to encourage higher attendance amongst our students. In
doing so we plan to provide the classroom with the highest attendance percentage each semester with a pizza
party!
The SCC also continues to support reading and writing initiatives around the school, including
Rec and Read evenings at the school. We have decided this year to provide a door prize at each rec and read
event to encourage student attendance. Each student that attends has the chance to win the door prize!
The remainder of the fall of 2017 will be dedicated to organizing our annual Christmas Banquet on
December 12th
. The SCC will begin planning for the banquet very soon and as always we welcome any parent
volunteers who want to give their time to help us with this day.
We look forward to having another successful banquet!

CROSS COUNTRY
The Herbert School Cross Country team, coached by Mrs. Olynick, ended their season in early
October. We competed in two meets at Swift Current and Grasslands National Park. Cross country
events are required to be raced on all-terrain, meaning no pavement or sidewalks, but rather hills,
holes, roots, etc. The team did 2km runs twice per week during noon in preparation for these races
and their hard work paid off with some top finishes. Our official times for those meets are listed
below.
Congratulations to all of our racers on an excellent season!
