July

Fri 5th Last Day of Term

Mon 22nd Staff Development Day

Tues 23rd Students Return for Term 3

Thanks also to the parents for supporting your child by

bringing them into the city and supporting dance.

Stage 3 Forensic Incursion

Year 5 and 6 students enjoyed a fun filled day of activities on

Monday 24th June. There were many hands on activities

which students could use their investigative skills to com-

plete.

Kinder Wildlife Incursion

Kinder students were given an opportunity to see and even

touch some small Australian animals and reptiles on Tuesday

25th June. The display consisted of snakes, lizards and pos-

sums. It was a great experience for all!

Kinder Open Day

On Thursday 27th June the hall was filled with some existing

parents and potential future parents of Kinder students.

Kinder Open Day is one day we ‘show off’ the many wonder-

ful aspects of Beresford Road. Two current Year 6 students

shared their experiences of BRPS and a current Kinder par-

ent talked about her decision to bring her child to this

school. There were two great performances by the Junior

Dance Group and the K-2 Choir, and then the parents were

taken on a tour of the school, visiting the kindergarten

rooms. Parents and students were then treated to a great

morning tea, provided by our P&C. A great morning enjoyed

by all.

Canteen News

It with much sadness that we say goodbye to the canteen

Manager Nicole. She has been given a career opportunity

with Healthy Canteens that she can’t say no to. If we are

lucky she will be able to pop in sometimes. We would like to

wish her all the best for future. We will miss her lots.

Relieving Principal Report

This is my last week at Beresford Road as Relieving PrincipaI.

Mr David Leydon will be returning for the start of Term 3. I

would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to

everyone for making me feel so welcome. I have really

enjoyed leading the school with the support of the amazing

staff, parents and of course the students who make BRPS

such a magnificent school.

Friday 5th July is the last day of Term 2. We wish all families

a relaxing break and hope everyone is able to take some

time to unwind and hopefully recharge. Term 3 begins for

students on Tuesday 23rd July.

Reports

Reports were distributed to all parents/carers today.

Reports outline student achievements for semester 1, in

each of the key learning areas; English, Mathematics,

Science, Geography & History, PD, Health & PE and Creative

Arts. The front cover page explains our school reports and

the grading for the assessment of achievement. Teachers

have also included a writing sample on the back page which

captures a point in time example of the type of writing your

child is producing. We hope these reports provide parents/

carers with concise information about their child.

CAPA Fifty rehearsal

Students and staff have been very busy finalising their items

for the Fifty performance. Classes have rehearsed their

performances at least weekly, some even more. Costumes

are being finalised in preparation for the big day and night

performance on Tuesday 6th August. Notes have been

distributed to all families with instructions about ordering

tickets. The tickets will be on sale from Monday 22nd July.

Notes will come home next term about ordering a video of

the whole concert.

Dance Groups at the Opera House

Congratulations to the Junior, Intermediate and Senior

dance groups, Miss Keijzers, Mrs Mangin, Mrs Lobb and

Miss Mangion for a superb effort at the Dance Eisteddfod at

the Opera house on Sunday 23rd June.

Playground Updates

Over the last few weeks, there has been some minor

upgrades and a general clean up to the playground. Extra

bark has been spread out around the log areas and fresh

sand has been added to the sandpit (with some new sand

toys). Students from 5/6J and 5/6L assisted us in carrying

and removing broken furniture and other materials into a

skip bin, making our playground clear and safe. High

visibility vests have been purchased for all staff members to

wear on playground duties to make them highly visible to

our students.

Debate

On Wednesday 26th June BRPS participated in a debate

against St Marys Public School. Congratulations to Jaelen,

Xander, Shreya and Shaniqua from 5/6S for winning the

debate.

Early Leavers

Please notify the office if you are sending someone else to

pick up your child/children. Even if the person is on as an

Emergency Contact this does not give permission for them

to go home with them. A note or phone call must be

provided to the office before they leave with anyone else.

DO NOT send cash In on Friday.

Farewell Mrs Tukel – 3ST

The end of term is approaching fast and we would like to

inform you that due to an interstate move Mrs Tukel will no

longer be with us for the remainder of the year.

Mrs Silva will be teaching 3ST from Monday to Friday for the

first 5 weeks of Term 3. From Week 6 onwards, Mrs Silva

will teach Monday to Thursday, and Mrs Ledbrook will be

teaching 3ST on Fridays for the remainder of the year. With

Mrs Silva taking on extra days this should provide stability

to 3ST. We welcome Mrs Ledbrook back from Week 6, Term

3 and many students will be happy to see a familiar face.

Mrs Tukel is an outstanding teacher, who has been a part of

the BRPS community for a long time. We would like to thank

her for all her hard work and dedication not only to 3ST, but

our whole school. She will be greatly missed. We wish her

all the best on her future endeavours.

If you have any questions of queries, please feel free to

speak with Mrs Mangin or Mrs Silva.

Car Park

Thank you to everyone who has been co-operating and not

using the staff car park. We have seen a big improvement

and this is great as it keeps our children safe.

lock bag with students Name, Class and excursion. Money is

accepted in the office Monday—Thursday morning. Please

Library Update

Borrowing has ceased for the term. If your child has any library books at home please

make sure they are returned to the library before the end of this week.

BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

Congratulations to Ella from 1SB and Georgia from 3/4L who were the winners of our

Book Club draw for Issue 4. Each child that ordered something from Book Club went into

the draw for a prize. We had such a great response to Book Club this issue, it only seemed

fair that we give two prizes. The girls had a lot of fun choosing three prizes from our prize

box and three brand new books each from the book box. Thank you again to everyone

who continues to support the Library by purchasing books and earning points for us to

spend on new library books

WHAT’S HAPPENING IN TERM 3?

In Week 4 and 5, Term 3, we will be holding our annual Scholastic Book Fair and Book Character Parade.

Books will be on sale in the Library from Friday 16/8/19. On Monday the 19th August, we are also having

Grandparents Day so don’t forget to bring your Grandparents down to have a look at the Book Fair. You

might also want to start thinking about your Book Character Costume for the parade on the Tuesday.

This year we are celebrating all the fabulous books by our favourite authors that we enjoy in the library

every week. Our Book Character Parade theme will be: “Who is your favourite Author?” So put your

thinking caps on during the holidays and see if you can come up with a cool costume idea. Remember,

we have prizes for every class for the most creative costumes!!!!!!!

Have a Safe and Happy Holiday,

Nationally consistent collection of data on school students with disability – 2019

Our school is participating in the collection of nationally consistent data on school students with disability.

We will be collecting information already available in the school about the support that is being provided to students with disability. Better data will help the Government plan for students with disability.

The data collection will have no direct impact on your child and they will not be involved in any testing process.

The NSW Department of Education and Communities will provide data to the Australian Government from all NSW public schools in such a way that no individual student or school will be able to be identified. In this way, we will ensure the privacy and confidentiality of all students.

All information is protected by privacy laws which regulate the collection, storage and disclosure of personal information. Information about the Australian Government’s Privacy Policy can be found here: http://education.gov.au/condensed-privacy-policy. Information about the NSW Government’s privacy policies can be found here: http://www.ipc.nsw.gov.au/

If you do not want your child to be counted in the data collection please speak to the school principal by the end Term 2, 2019. A decision to exclude your child will not affect the support they currently receive.

Further information about the data collection can be found on the Australian Government Department of Education web-site:

http://education.gov.au/nationally-consistent-collection-data-school-students-disability

If you have any questions about your child being included in the data collection please contact the school.

If you need help with English to make an enquiry contact the Telephone Interpreter Service on 131 450 and ask for an interpreter in your language. The operator will call the number you provide and get an interpreter on the line to assist you with your conversation. You will not be charged for this service.

School Voluntary Contribution Payment Dear Parents/Care Givers

The NSW Government allows each school in the state to request from each family an amount of money to help pay for

the many consumable items used by children every day (exercise books, stationery, scrapbooks, photocopying, visual

art supplies etc.) and a number of on-line subscriptions. The money can also help support programs and projects that

the school community determines as necessary in the school. (eg. Equipment for the dance program or books for the

library).

The voluntary contribution amount will remain the same as last year, which is $45.00 for one student, $70.00 for two

students or $90.00 per family. I stress that payment of the general school contribution is a matter for decision by

individual parents and caregivers and is entirely voluntary.

Payments can be made either by cash or by POP.

I seek your support, through the payment of the school contributions, to maximise the learning outcomes for your chil-

dren. I assure all parents that no embarrassment or discrimination will occur in this school as a result of non -

payment of the contribution. Should you wish, we would be happy to accept smaller amounts weekly or each term.

Kathy Pizzinga
