PGY1 Licensing Requirement in accordance with

the Medical Registration Act (MRA)

Regardless of training path (ie: Resident or House Officer), all Post Graduate Year

1 (PGY1) or Pre-Registration Doctors will have to undergo:

• 4 months of Internal Medicine

• 4 months of General Surgery (or Orthopaedic Surgery)

• The remaining 4 months must be carried out in a department accredited by the

Singapore Medical Council (SMC)

• Have supervised or worked with you or have been your personal tutor for at least 3

weeks

• A faculty member of the applicant’s medical school,

• Or an appointed clinical tutor,

• Or at least a Senior resident or lecturer or equivalent.

Important Note for Residency 2018

1. You can only select up to 2 Clinician Track programmes to apply, and interview, for.

There is no option to apply for a Clinician-Scientist track.

2. You can only apply for a switch to a Clinician-Scientist track in the 3rd year of your current

programme.

3. Following the interviews, when you have finished ranking your Clinician Track

programmes, you will have to log in and select your PGY1 rotations

4. Matches are binding. Rejection of a match, or withdrawal midway through training, will

result in penalties (1 year penalty imposed for next application). A non accepted match

has the consequence of depriving another applicant a position as we cannot rematch

5. If you do not want to apply for, or are not matched to, Residency Training for the

May/July 2018 intake, you will be posted according to your PGY1 rotation preferences.
