DESCRIPTION
Erika Nieves' last learning portfolio for the Fall 2010 semester of DSGN 110, Rapid Visualization.TRANSCRIPT
Note on Images Used
O I have both scanned & photographed
images within this portfolio. The scans
were small enough to fit into my scanner,
while the photographed images exceeded
the size my scanner allowed.
O My apologies if the images aren’t the best
quality.
Thumb nailing Chapter 3
I only managed to draw the
introduction. I drew it left to right
since that’s the Western standard
& how I usually draw.
Cropping & Multiple
Perspectives
I used a sketch I made for another class as
a base since I didn’t have any thumbnails
from the final project to use. (see pg. 56)
It was challenging, but also fun.
I was thinking about comparing &
contrasting Central Florida to San
Francisco based on my few months
away from Florida. I got pretty detailed,
but the topic didn’t appeal to me very
much.
6 I tried to make it look like GameFAQs (video game forum) on the left &
somewhat like GaiaOnline’s forums on the right. I should not have bothered to
do it the morning it was due. My presentation would’ve been fine without it.
7
I also did this one the morning it was due. It would have turned out
better if I gave myself more time.
For DSGN
101
I used the above one on pg. 27.
These were planning for the 1st
iteration of the final project.
<- 1. Traced
stick figure
model & head
count
-> 2. Started
general
details on top
of stick model
Building off the previous stick sketch
Sketch Continued <- 3. Tracing
what I want to
keep, adding
more detail.
-> 4. Finalizing
& adding more
tiny details.
And hair.
Final Sketch & Colored Version <- 5. Finalized
sketch. It got a
little wet.
-> 6. Colored a
copy of the sketch
with markers.
Drawing: 4 hours
Coloring: ~2 hours
Was just a piece of
my 1st iteration.
Storyboard
Reads left to right.
What I had for my 2nd iteration. It’s a
storyboard for a video I plan to make
for the final iteration.
Final Statements O Overall, I didn’t do as much as I should have. Time
management has been an issue since this was my first semester in college. Adjusting to my situation has been a slow, arduous process. This probably was not the right time for this class, but I decided to keep with it for credits & because I didn’t want to quit.
O I’ve learned at least a few things from this class: O About how perspective makes a drawing more appealing &/or
realistic. One point is the easiest to use since it simply requires a “center” point.
O How to make straighter lines. My vertical lines turn out much better than my horizontal lines for some reason.
O About quick ways to draw shadows. More complex shapes are naturally more difficult, but breaking it down into simpler shapes is key.
O About how to draw people faster. I’ve read various tutorials & books, & practicing for at least 5 years. but for some reason this class helped me more quickly. Now I can draw a decent person in 20 minutes or less instead of an hour.
O This class has also made me think about what I should major in. I’m considering something that doesn’t have as much drawing, but I’m still a freshman. I still have time to really decide what it is I want to do.
