KOBELCO CRANEShas unveiled its new 400t capa-city model SL4500 in 2009,As the world's largest supplier of multi-purpose latti-

ce boom crawler cranes (with an estimated world mar-ket share of around 33 % in the 60 up to 250 tonnesclass and around 45 % in the 250 tonne class), and withstrategies for continuing product and market develop-ment, Kobelco Cranes is in a strong position to respondpositively in the current volatile market conditions.

Kobelco's current programme of redesigning, upgra-ding and improving its crane models from 300 tonnes to800 tonnes (and maybe even higher) has resulted in theintroduction of the entirely new 400 tonne modelSL4500, with its world launch in 2009.

SL4500: the brand new SL4500 with a max. liftingcapacity of 400 tonnes and a max. load-moment of4,700 tm, was developed in response to demand andin close cooperation with several key buyers aroundthe world. Max. SHL (super heavy-lift) configuration is84 m main boom with 54 m luffing jib, or 78 m mainboom with 66 m luffing jib, resulting in an impressive

144 m total boom length.Several units have already been sold around the

world. The SL4500 model was sold even before manu-factured to the world's largest crane rental companies,the first unit ordered with full spec, while the crane wasstill on the drawing board.

Kobelco has designed this 400 tonne crane with animpressive spec, and with the intention of making it theleader in this important size-class, as it has with theCKE2500-2.

engines with direct fuel injection, intercooler and turbo-charger provide all the power needed for lifting, swin-ging and travelling.

The SL4500 is equipped with an extremely powerful320kW power unit, the CKE2500-2 has 247kW, and theCKE600 has 159kW. All engines are in compliance withStage 3 (EUR 3) American and European Emission regu-lations.

Engine speed, hydraulic flow and pressure demandsare coordinated by the computer-controlled Engine Spe-ed Sensing (ESS) system, reducing speed changes in si-multaneous operations to give smoother, more efficientperformance.

Easy, efficient transport and fast assembly/disas-sembly

Crawler side frames, lower (and upper) boom rema-in on the CKE600 during transport, and with a transportweight of 40.5 tonne (41.5t with crawlers), the CKE600

can travel and load itself onto a trailer, and rapidly ins-tall its own counterweight on site.On the CKE2500-2, the in-built vertical hydraulic

cylinders (translifters) are used for fast self-assembly.When the crane, with a transport weight of 44.9t, arrivesat the jobsite on the low loader, it is ready to lift itselfclear from the trailer, and if required, can start the comp-lete self-assembly of crawlers, boom, jib and counterwe-ight, without the need for an assistance crane. After stac-king up its own counterweight the CKE2500-2 installsthe rear counterweight, by lifting it hydraulically intoposition.

An Inching controlreduces the machine's hydrau-lic functions (excluding swing) to 1/3 of normal speed,

for precise positioning and manoeuvring. Large, extra-wide main and auxiliary drum

capacities promote ultra-smooth operation andenhanced component service life, especially ofwire rope and drum. The winches are virtuallymaintenance free, and the multi-disc drum bra-kes are self-adjusting and self-equalizing. Forced

oil circulation keeps brake temperatu-res cooler during long, continuousoperations and maximizes smoothbrake operation. The completely sea-led hydraulic system eliminates thepossibility of outside contamination,providing years of problem-free servi-ce life. An optional full-sized thirdwinch, located behind the auxiliarydrum, enables the use of an extensiveselection of attachments.

Optional free fall systemis ava-ilable on main and auxiliary winchesof CKE600 and CKE2500-2.
