TRANSCRIPT
Hello Everyone,
I would like to start by saying “Thanks” to all of you for the overwhelming support you have given us during the past two years, supporting our efforts on the Range Enhancement Project. The strong support you gave, gave us the incentive to move forward. Every time I am at the range, which is almost daily, someone steps up and compliments our efforts.
I would also like to thank my Advisory Committee consisting of Frank Alessio, Dave Burton, Lon Fowler, and Kenneith Notter for their tireless efforts.
A lot of members have stepped forward and pitched in when they were needed. This was especially evident during the Eagle Scout Projects, many thanks to all of you. This proves that a lot of members are willing to step forward and offer their help when the need is there. That’s why I am so proud to be a member of the Association.
The new Board takes over in July and we are moving forward to a new chapter. One of my highest priorities is to rebuild the Range Enhancement Fund and to finish the loose ends. I am looking forward to working with the new board. It is always a challenge because we are still growing in numbers and that is tough to keep up with.
Soon we will get rid of all the temporary storage units and enjoy “real restrooms”.
God bless,
Denny

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the American colonies from Great Britain occurred on July 2, 1776, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia. After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a committee but with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the Declaration, finally approving it on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:
The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.
Adams' prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.
One of the most enduring myths about Independence Day is that Congress signed the Dec-laration of Independence on July 4, 1776. The myth had become so firmly established that, decades after the event and nearing the end of their lives, even the elderly Thomas Jefferson and John Adams had come to believe that they and the other delegates had signed the Declaration on the fourth. Most delegates actually signed the Declaration on August 2, 1776. In a remark-able series of coincidences, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, two founding fathers of the United States and the only two men who signed the Declaration of Independence to become president, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the United States' 50th anniversary. President James Monroe died exactly five years later, on July 4, 1831, but he was not a signatory to the Declaration of Independence.
• In 1777, thirteen gunshots were fired, once at morning and again as evening fell, on July 4 in Bristol, Rhode Island. Phila-delphia celebrated the first anniversary in a manner a modern American would find quite familiar: an official dinner for the Continental Congress, toasts, 13-gun salutes, speeches, prayers, music, parades, troop reviews, and fireworks. Ships were decked with red, white, and blue bunting.• In 1778, General George Washington marked July 4 with a double ration of rum for his soldiers and an artillery salute. Across the Atlantic Ocean, ambassadors John Adams and Benjamin Franklin held a dinner for their fellow Americans in Paris, France.• In 1779, July 4 fell on a Sunday. The holiday was celebrated on Monday, July 5.• In 1781, the Massachusetts General Court became the first state legislature to recognize July 4 as a state celebration.• In 1783, Moravians in Salem, North Carolina, held a celebration of July 4 with a challenging music program assembled by Johann Friedrich Peter. This work was titled "The Psalm of Joy".• In 1791 the first recorded use of the name "Independence Day" occurred.• In 1870, the U.S. Congress made Independence Day an unpaid holiday for federal employees.[8]• In 1931, Congress changed Independence Day to a paid federal holiday. The residents of Vicksburg, Mississippi, celebrated Independence Day for the first time since July 4, 1863, when the Siege of Vicksburg ended with a Union victory during the American Civil War.

Range Officers and Members,Our annual celebration event for all Range Officers and Shoot Chairs was held on Sunday June 21st. The
following individuals were selected for our yearly awards: Thomas Kendall- Ruger Range Officer of the Year, Frank Alessio received the Chris Christensen award for years of teaching range safety, Hunter Ed, RSO and CRSO classes and many more. Harry Fagan was awarded Range Master of the Year. Ira Bryant is trap mas-ter of the year. JW Bailey and Bob Schoenfield shared as Shoot Chairs of the year. We also thanked Gordon Oviatt, Ed Migdal, Lee Allen and Denny Martin for all the volunteer time they give so unselfishly to our association. I would like to personally thank ALL the Shoot Chairs and Range Officers for every minute they give to our Association. Without you, our association could not maintain a safe shooting environment. Neil Pisk, CRSO, is stepping down as Asst Chief and has passed the red shooting flag to Tom Kendall. Neil, thank you for all the years you have been involved with our range officer program. Neil has also been a great help to me in my quest to learn the job and demands of CRSO.
Alpen Optics has supported RMAD with donations of binoculars and spotting scopes for the past two years. Vickie Gardner is V.P. and has offered special pricing for EF&G members. They are a local, award winning company in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Check out their web site www.alpenoptics.com, and give them a toll free call at 877-987-8370. The discount code is EF&G. Any questions please ask for Vickie and check out their ad in our monthly bulletin.
When you participate in shooting sports, you’re also assuming a vital responsibility that affects other lives. It is vitally important to learn and practice all the range safety rules and EF&GA association rules. Safety knowledge and skills are of little value unless you have the attitude to use them all the time. Being safe means that you are consciously keeping your firearm under control. Always be alert to, and conscious of, your firearms capabilities, and be aware of what might happen if it is used improperly.
July 1st the gate code will change. Your new EF&GA card will also be a different color, the sticker will be gold and you will be assigned a member number. You will not be able to enter the property as a member without a new card effective July 1st. Renew now. Please address all renewal questions to Dave Premetz.
The association is in need of more volunteer Range Officers and trainers. If you can spare some time to help us maintain a safe shooting environment, please call me at 858-679-1918 or email me at [email protected]. We will train you and assist you in preparing yourself to become an official Range Safety Officer. Only you can help.
Three rules for safe gun handling: Always keep the gun pointed in a safe direction. Always keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot. Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use.
There are six popular types of cartridge rifle actions: Bolt, Pump, Lever, Semi-automatic, Hinge and Fall-ing Block. The next time you are at the range try and identify them.
Be safe and please respect our rules and show respect to your fellow members.“IT’S ALL ABOUT ATTITUDE”
