    accesstosubjectareaknowledge.Knowingmentalmathfacts,therulesofspellingandpunctuaon,an

    theexperiencesofhistoricalfiguresindifferentplac

    and meareextremelyimportant.Butcurriculumis

    alsoabouthowthiscontentisframedanddelivered

    tothelearner.Ifourgoalsareunderstandingfocuse

    thencoveringcontent(oenachievedbyskimming

    thesurfaceofmanyvariedfactsandtopics)needsto

    bereplacedbyprovidingchildrenwiththe

    opportunitytouncoverbigideasorconcepts;andt

    teachthemtodothisbythemselves.Inthisway,a

    teachersjobisulmately,tomakehim/herselfobsolete!

    Aconceptbasedlearningframeworkenableschildre

    toaachwhattheyarelearningtotheirownlivesan

    experiences.Itallowsthemtomakeconnecons

    withinandacrosslearningareas.Ithelpsthemretain

    andapplywhattheyhavelearned.Italsosupports

    differenaon,whereindividualneeds,strengths,

    backgrounds,interestsandchallengesaremet.

    Differenangfactsandskillsisunlikelytomeetthe

    varyingneedsofdifferentlearners.Aconceptbasedcurriculummeanwhile,givesaclearfocusof

    instruconforstudentswhoarestrugglingacademicallywhileprovidingaplaormforextension.Itcrossescul

    turestoconnectwithstudentsrespecvebackgrounds,andis(indeed,mustbe)significant,relevant,anden

    gaging.

    Atpresent,thereareunitsofworkoccurringacrosstheES,inarangeoflearningareas,whichexemplifytheide

    asabove.Forexample,Grade1studentsarediscussingplacevaluerelaonshipswithinandbeyond100;fourth

    gradestudentshavebegunaunitofinquirythataddressestheideaofthinkingscienficallyinordertoexplain

    the

    following

    procedureapplies:

    Parents are obliged to inform the school officially

    throughaWITHDRAWALNOTIFICATIONFORM,onor

    before May 10, 2013, if their children will not be

    returningtoISM.

    Failure todosowill lead toadeduconofUS$1,000

    from the Facilies Upgrade Deposit (FUD), in

    compensaon for having held a space for the child

    and thus prevenng the School from offering that

    space to another child prior to the summer holiday

    break.

    TheWithdrawalNoficaonFormcanbeobtained

    fromtheAdmissionsOfficeordirectlyfromtheISM

    websitewww.ismanila.orgunderAdmissions>Re

    Enrollment&Withdrawal>Withdrawal

    STEP1:ReturntheWithdrawalNoficaonFormto

    theAdmissionsOfficeorscannedandemailedasan

    [email protected].

    Upon receiptof theWithdrawalNoficaonFormbytheAdmissionsOffice,acopywillbeforwarded

    to the appropriate SchoolOffice and the Finance

    Officefortheiracon.

    TheSchoolOffice,uponreceiptof theWithdrawal

    Noficaon Form, will iniate the student

    clearance procedure which requires aMiddle or

    HighSchoolstudenttohavetheStudentClearance

    Slipsignedbytheindicatedteachersandofficesfor

    clearance. For Elementary students, the

    Elementary Office will handle the withdrawal

    clearance.

    Note that school transcripts and records will be

    available from the parcular school office

    approximatelyfieenworkingdaysaerthechilds

    last dayof aendance at ISM. Please coordinate

    directly with the parcular School Office if you

    requireotherarrangements.

    STEP2: Ifrequired,andwhencompleted,theStudent

    Clearance Slip must be taken to the Cashiers

    Office. Onlyaer theCashierhasreceivedandsigned

    thecompletedclearanceformwillthechildstranscript

    or school records be released from the Elementary,

    Middle or High School Office. Please note that one

    copy of the transcript is provided free of charge,

    addional copies cost P100 each, payable at the

    Cashiers Office before release. Please coordinate

    directlywiththeparcularSchoolOfficeifyourequire

    morethanonecopyofschoolrecords.

    STEP3: InordertoreceiveyourFaciliesUpgrade

    DepositorFUD(formerlytheSpecialProjectDeposit)

    refund,thefollowingmustbesubmiedtothe

    CashiersOffice:

    1)SignedStudentClearanceSlip2)SignedFaciliesUpgradeDepositCerficate

    Pleasenote that the FUD refundwill notbe released

    beforeyourchilds lastdayofschoolandmaytakeup

    to thirty (30) days. Only the person whose name

    appearsontheFUDCerficatemayclaimtherefundat

    theCashiersOffice.

    website (www.ismanila.org) and then under Login, click onPowerschool Public Access and enter your Username andPassword. On the page that opens, click on theDemographic Update icon for changing or updatingdemographic information.

    Drivers,helpers and bodyguards shouldnot bewaing on campus for students throughout the schoolday. Aer

    droppingoffstudentstheyshouldexittheschoolgroundsandnotreturnmorethan30minutesbeforedismissal me.

    Thosewhorepeatedlyfailtocomplywiththeregulaonwillhavetheiraccessprivilegesuspended.

    Onlythosevehiclescarryingparentsorotherpeoplewithbusinesswithintheschoolwillbeallowedtoreturntothe

    campusbefore1:45p.m.

    Therearedesignatedareas forunaccompanieddrivers,yayas,helpersand securityescorts towait forparentsand

    students.Unlessspecificallyauthorized,theymaynotenteranyotherarea.Intheinterestofsecurity,andtoprevent

    congeson at the pedestrian entrances to the covered parking area,parents are requested to emphasize to their

    employeestheimportanceofcooperangwiththesecuritystaffandremainingintheappropriateareas.

    TerminaonofEmployment

    Intheeventoftheterminaonofserviceofafamilyemployee,parentsareasked tosecuretheformeremployees

    ISM ID cardand return it to theSecurityoffice. If this isnotpossible, it is important tat theSecurityOffice issll

    informedofthechangeofcircumstances.

    Finally,IwouldliketothankallmembersoftheISMcommunityfortheircooperaoninhelpingusmaintainISMasa

    safeandsecureenvironmentforourchildren.

    Firearms

    Allmembersof the ISM community are reminded that it is strictly forbidden forfirearms tobe broughtonto the

    campus.Thisincludesconcealedweaponscarriedbybodyguardsforcloseprotecon.Anypersonarrivingattheschool

    withafirearmshouldinformthegateguardandarrangementswillbemadefortheweapontobesafelyandsecurely

    storedduringthevisitorsstay.

    Theendoftheschoolyearisfastapproaching,andwewantedyoutoknowthat,starnginAugust,weshallbeintro

    ducingaCampusCardpaymentscheme. Thissystemhasbeenintheresearchstageforsome menow,andwehavebeenconsulngcarefullywithourcolleagueschoolsinIASAS,allofwhommakeuseofacardforpaymentson

    theircampuses.ThesystemworksthroughanindividualidentychipthatisimplantedintostudentIDcards.

    Oneofthemainpurposesformakingthismovetoistoprovideadebitsysteminthecanteen. Someofthebenefits

    are:

    Limittheamountofmoneythatstudentsareobligedtobringtoschool.

    Speedupcanteenlinesduringbreakssincecashexchangewillnotbeneeded.

    Giveonlineaccesstoparentssotheymayseewhattheirchildrenareeangatlunch.

    Theintenonistorunparallelcash/debitsysteminially,butin meweintendtomovetowardsacompletedebit

    systemduring

    school

    hours.

    Parentsandstudentswillhaveseveraloponswithregardstotoppinguptheircard. Theycandothisonlinebycredit

    cardorpaypalorthroughanaccreditedbank(allforaminimalfee),atkiosks(similartoATMs)locatedintwodiffer

    entareasoncampus,oratthecashiersoffice.

    Inaddiontopurchasingfoodatthecanteen,theSmartCardmaybeusedforpayingotheracviesthattakeplace

    oncampus:schoolplays,FamilyFunday,concerts,Tshirts,etc.WealsohopethattheUniformShopwillbeableto

    acceptpaymentsinthisway.

    ParentsandhelpersmayalsoapplyforanIDcardcompletewithchipshouldtheywishtouseadebitsystemoncam

    pusratherthancashpayments.

    Inconjunconwiththedebitsystem,theSmartCardsissuedinMiddleSchoolwillallowstudentstoaccessthenew

    lockerswearepurchasing.

    WeshallbesendingoutmoreinstruconsonhowthissystemwillworklaterintheschoolyearandagaininAugust.

    Likeanynewsystem,wesuspectthattherewillbesometeethingproblems,butweareconfidentthatweshallover

    cometheseandthatthecardsystemwillbebeneficialfortheenreschool.
