I New Board of Directors for 2018-2019At the last General Membership Meeting (5/10/2018) elections were held and a new Board was elected. Our new Directors are Yosi Boublil and Chris Cote. Ren Everett was re-elected as a Director as well. Geoff Orchin was re-elected as

Secretary again. The new President is Norm Porst and I was elected as the

new Vice President. I am honored and humbled by the support that I received from all of you. I will do my best to live up to the high standards set by my predecessors. Speaking of predecessors, be sure to thank Neil Pisk and Patrick Watson for their outstanding service to the Association over the past four years that they held the offices of President and Vice President.

I Make Time to Attend a General MeetingBring a friend to the next General Meeting and one or both of you could win a few bucks. At the last General Meeting, Dave Disque won the $25 door prize and graciously donated it to the Junior Marksmanship Program. Had he attended the meeting, Joel Hoolihan would have won the $500 Attendance Prize. The next General Meeting is 6/14/2018. If you don’t show up, you can’t win.

I Thanks for the DonationsWhen Juli was processing membership paperwork, many members decided to generously donate to EF&GA and/or the Junior Marksmanship Program. Juli asked me to call attention to them and thank them publicly:Roland Ramirez, Gary Schultz, Randall Gompper, Harold Dewall, Dale Tiglio, Richard Smerud, Wallace Cook, Joven Abrenica, Mark Girard, Joyce Crosthwaite, Michael Dolphin, Charles Marks, Albert Barbosa, Joy Jones, Harold Riggs, D N Hamblen, Thomas Erickson, Steve Tye, Lee Curtis, Michael Trinkle, Kevin Fleck, John Hetzler, Douglas Pratte.

I Barbecue 5/20/2018Well, we have survived yet another outstanding Barbecue event. There were a few changes this year that drew many comments from the crowd. First of all, we had an excellent vocalist – one of our Junior Marksmanship participants, Samantha Carey. She is not only talented with a rifle but also with a guitar and her voice. Next, we had the addition of the Cowboy Action event. Everyone that I talked to who tried it had a goofy grin and lots of positive comments about it. We also had a bigger crowd than last year and as usual, the food was fantastic. Bekker’s Catering did an outstanding job of getting over 450 people through the line in under half an hour. There were also many people behind the scenes who made everything continue smoothly and with minimal mayhem. Roger Fannin and his crew made sure that parking was organized and orderly. We had shoot-chairs that kept the events flowing, fun, and safe.

I Work Party 5/19/2018The Barbecue would have been possible without the 121 volunteers who showed up for the Work Party the day before the Barbecue. Besides removing the broken clays from the hill, there were numerous other tasks that were completed to keep the Range beautiful, functional, and safe. I want to use the platform of this newsletter to identify and thank each of the participants by name. I NRA Metallic Cartridge Reloading Class (6/2/2018)Although ammo has plentifully come back to the market there are California restrictions (Prop. 63) that have been generated to hinder such purchases both in-store and on-line. The opportunity to learn reloading techniques that will allow you to produce timely, consistent, accurate ammunition while receiving NRA certified reloading instruction is available on June 2nd, 2018.

R a n g e m a s t e R s o u n d o f f

I am happy to report during the last month that there were no major safety issues other than the normal “What Sign?” or the “I didn’t know there were (blue) lights

on the range?”….

But I have heard (we have not caught you yet) about a few of you that still have not gotten the message. When the range is COLD and you are going down range to handle your target turn the blue lights ON, even if you are the only one on the range! Remember no lights means the range is HOT; so don’t get upset when someone up range shows up with their firearms or is messing with

their equipment as the range is technically HOT!

As some of you know I am also the Match Director for the Cowboy Action Shoot and today was our Annual BBQ. The Bandidos setup a shooting event which has never been done before at the BBQ. I was not sure how it would be received by the guests and in particular the “younger crowd (less than 40)” since it is not “tactical” and they have not grown up with John Wayne (poor souls).

When the cease-fire was called for lunch they still had a long line and I have heard nothing but positive comments. Rough count we had 108 shooters go through the course of fire with a lot of smiling faces. Must surprising to me was the large interest from the “younger crowd” especially our Jr’s. Big thanks to my posse who made this happen: Hacksaw Hack, Paddy Wack, Gutshot Greg, Ruthless Roth, Lantana Lady, Buck Garret, Double Diamond and Diamondback Dree. We will be back next year with more tables!

Our Assistant Chief RSO Jim Harris would like to speak to you about Steel Core Bullets

Shooting of Steel Composition Bullets is Not Allowed

Every member and guest coming to EFGA has access to the Casual Shooting Rules and Regulations of EFGA on our website. Under the category “Range Information”, on page two, item 24 states:

• “No tracer, incendiary, explosive, steel jacketed or steel core ammunition is allowed on any of the association ranges”.

These types of bullets present a very real fire hazard and those caught using them will explain why to the Board.

The magnets affixed to the shooting benches (we need to replace some) are for testing your ammunition. If the tip of the bullet sticks to the magnet, DO NOT use it and put it back in your car. Remember you are responsible for using the correct ammunition.

RSO’s will be on the alert for this type of ammunition on the firing line. They will check to see if the magnet is attracted to JUST THE STEEL CASE and NOT the bullet, or if the bullet itself sticks to the magnet. If the magnet does not stick to the bullet portion, you may shoot it.

The First Part is strictly academic in structure and conducted at the EF&GA meeting hall. This session (8:00 AM 6/2/2018) will last until approximately 12 noon. The Second Part is a “Hands On” reloading bench experience. This session generates the practical, detailed experience necessary while you successfully complete a number of your personal reloads. Scheduling the second session will be at a mutually agreed to time and date. This scheduling will be completed at the 1st session. The cost is two tiered: EF&GA members = $100; non-members = $110. For those individuals beginning and are without any reloading supplies (empty cases, powder, primers, etc.) a $10 surcharge will be applied. Prior registration and a $20 deposit is required to secure a place in this class. Registration is necessary and limited. For more information, contact Elvio Marchi at [email protected] or 760-734-3942

I Guejito Rendezvous (6/8/201/-6/10/2018)We will be conducting a traditional muzzleloader rendezvous and primitive dress and camping gear is encouraged but not required. How to place a classified ad

in the newsletter Please help to keep the classified section easy to read and well organized. There is no cost as long as you are an EF&GA member in good standing. Classified ads run for ONE newsletter (one month). If you want to repeat an ad for another month (with price adjustments, etc…) simply re-submit the ad request via e-mail.

Please submit requests for classified ads via email to [email protected] and be sure to double-check for spelling and grammar errors.

It may sound obvious but requests for classifieds are frequently received with not enough information to be useful to a reader. There are 5 main components of a classified ad:

Category – Most classifieds fall into one of 3 catego-ries, ‘For Sale’, ‘Wanted’, or ‘Lost & Found’.

Subject/Title – This will appear in bold in the advertise-ment. This should be short (2 or 3 words) and concise.

Description – This is the body of the advertisement and can be a few sentences but not more than a paragraph. Abbreviations appear cryptic and are not recommend-ed unless they are well known acronyms.

Price – A specific dollar amount as well as qualifiers give the reader important information. For example, “$600 or Best Offer, Buyer pays DROS, Will consider trades”

Contact Info – This should be a name AND a phone number (including area code) and/or an e-mail address.

JUNIOR CORNER2018 Barbecue

By Patrick Russ

Another annual BBQ is in the books. I would like to thank some of the people that made it possible. I would like to start with everyone that lent a hand in setting up on Saturday. This preparation makes Sunday go a lot smoother. Next would be all of the shoot chairs that spent most of the BBQ showing people how to do everything from throwing an ax to shooting cowboy action style. This is not an easy task

but I know that everyone enjoys and appreciates their efforts. I would like to give a very special thank you to Samantha Cary. She was our entertainment for the day. She did an amazing job singing. I know that everyone was enjoying it because I saw a lot of people singing along with her. I’m especially proud of her because she is also one of our Junior shooters. She is an outstanding shooter and she does a great safety brief. I know that we will be seeing a lot more of her in the future and we can all say that we can remember when we saw her in concert - at the Escondido Fish and Game Association range. Maybe we should get her autograph the next time we see her, just in case. Last but certainly not least, I think that Ed Migdal and Neil Pisk deserve and lot of credit and thanks for all that they did to make sure that the BBQ was a huge success. I know for a fact that these two spend a lot of time on every aspect of the event. The raffle table alone is enough to prove that fact. These guys start working on the next BBQ almost as soon this one is over. It’s a great event and a nice feather in the cap of Escondido Fish and Game.

Some of you may have noticed some of the Junior shooters walking around wearing green shirts. They are Junior Coaches. They are the young adults that have taken the time to, not only learn how to coach their fellow Junior shooters (under adult supervision) in the fine art of pistol and rifle marksmanship, but they have also learned to give a proper safety brief as well as set up and tear down the range, among other things. These young adults have taken the initiative to become better shooters as well as good stewards of the range. These coaches understand how great our Junior Marksmanship program is and they give back every chance they get. I would like to thank AJ Wagle, Daysha Halbert, Austin Cote and Kestrin Walsh for all of their hard work in setting up the BBQ, working during the BBQ and cleaning up after the BBQ. These are our future leaders, they lead by example. Leaders like these are the ones that make great things happen.

Just a friendly reminder

Junior Pistol is on June 24th at 7:30AM. If you have not done all of your volunteer hours, this will be your last chance. We always need help with coaching as well as range set up and tear down.
