AUGUST MENU
Governors Corner:Greetings.
Yes, the Dog Days and heat are here. Best wishes to all and staycool.
There are many notable Moose activities to address from July. OurFourth of July Picnic was spirited to say the least, and a beautifulday in the park made for a great time. Jack and Dini, your help fromthe early hours was the key to a successful event. To the rest,Shirley, Dan and Charly, Heavenly, Ronnie and Diane, thanks foryour help. Jo, thanks for shopping!
Our cooks continue to impress. To the Stus- a perpetual thank youfor all of your Monday nights. To the Rogue Posse- thanks for a
week (Monday Burgers and Friday Fish Fry) of hearty effort. These are some entertainingguys, so members, in the future, please stop and meet these men if you haven't yet.
To Ronnie and Diana Morris- Thank you so much for donating the proceeds of the July10th dinner to our Lodge. Your generosity and spirit are exceptional. To Bonnie andWOTM- Thanks for your consecutive month ending Friday night dinners. Summers can betough and we appreciate your stepping up. To the Tuesday Taco Group- Wow!Unbelievable turnouts! Thanks much!
Finally, to Len and Dan and crew- Your continued service on Sundays and Friday SteakNights goes well beyond normal service to our organization. As of yet, no one has steppedforward to volunteer to ease the Sunday load. Maybe, when we have to close the Lodge onSunday mornings due to the lack of help, people will realize what could have been done.Seriously folks, these guys can't be expected to keep this going indefinitely.
We currently have grounds issues with which we have to deal. Our parking lot is in need ofresurfacing. Unfortunately, we have pressing kitchen compliance issues which are going tocost a substantial amount. As soon as possible, we will be soliciting fund raising ideas forour parking lot.
Dan Papp and a volunteer group are in the process of transforming our horseshoe pits into adance floor/activities area. This will be an aesthetic upgrade to that area, be useful forfuture rental activities, and obviously be functional for our Lodge picnics. Any ideas for therelocation of our existing horseshoe pits would be welcome.
As for August, the Luau will take place on August 8 and we need help serving the food.Come out and enjoy what has become an 1874 Moose tradition.
Finally, something different, for those of us who never grew up... On August 22, John"Curly" Genaway and I will present a Three Stooges Film Festival from 4:00-6:00. We willhave hot dogs, popcorn, and who knows what else. Shown will be 5-6 digitally remasteredclassics. Additional food and snack ideas are welcome.I hope everyone has a great month.
See you at the Lodge!

From the desk of the Senior Regent
Greetings all, it's a beautiful, hot day outside, that is whyI'm inside writing to you. First of all, I would like to thankeveryone who helped out at the Father's Day breakfast.Jeanne and Dale Pulver, Shirley Higgens, Charlie Papp,Cindy Mitz, Johanna Henderson, and Dini Wilson. Sorry if Ileft anyone out, I get a little freaked out being in the kitchen, Iam no Betty Crocker. The winners of the raffle were TonyGentry, Tim White, Jay Pulver, Duke Dunn, and Mike Orgil.
Hope everyone had a nice 4th, I understand that is was agood turnout, and the bake sale and raffle basket went well. Thanks to Grace Wichert for donating the basket. Thanks toall women who donated baked goods to the sale.
Wanted to remind everyone to attend the Luau on August8th. This is our second biggest fund raiser of the year, and thefood is wonderful, and the profession dancers put on quite ashow. This event is run by Bonnie Holbrook every year, I haveworked this event since the first one, and it just keeps gettingbetter every year. At $16 per person, it's a bargain. Get ticketsat the bar, it's $20 the day of the Luau.
Would also like to thank everyone who has donated toSerenity House, I took about 6 bags of clothes last Thursday,by Friday night the bin was filled again. Johanna Hendersontook the clothes to Serenity House, they were very happy tohave them. We will leave the box there for as long as there isinterest. Thanks to everyone who took time out of their busylives to help make a difference to someone else.
Would like to encourage women to come to our chapternights, it's the first and third Wednesday of the month, open toall WOTM members. We visit and have refreshments at 6pm,the meeting starts at 7pm.It's a great way to get to know people, and you will find outwhat the WOTM is all about.
And a belated thank out to Gary Richardson for moneydonated to the dining room remodel. See you at the Lodge.

For all of the Moose Legionnaires whomissed the Fish Fry at El Cajon this month, which was everyone except for Dick and me,you missed out on a great dinner and funnight. The Quarterly Legion celebrations arean excellent opportunity to get together with
men and women from other lodges and exchange thoughts andideas. And you get to have a good time too! The next celebrationwill be at Kearny Mesa on the third weekend of October. Theyalways have an excellent dinner and a good dance band to helpsettle your tummy down afterwards.
The Moose Legion is made up of those Moose memberswho qualify, who wish to contribute a little more time and moneyto insure the quality and care of our children at Mooseheart andseniors at Moosehaven is the best it can be.Our Moose Legion activities committee meets the 2nd Tuesdayof each month at 7:00 PM. To find out if you qualify or if youneed further information, please contact myself or any otherMoose Legionnaire.
I realize this is short but my thinking cap isn't working theway it used to. So until next month, have a great day andremember when you come to the Lodge if I don't say hi, it's notbecause I don't care, it's 'cause I don't think as good as I used to.But I love and care about each and everyone of you.

Youth Awareness
As some of you may not be aware, Moose has aprogram called Youth Awareness. It is for high schoolstudents, This program gives interested kids specialtraining, after which they present kid talks to childrenfrom 4th to 8th grade. Each student must attend aCongress for training, It is scheduled for Oct.3rd atthe San Diego Moose Lodge, All students must bewith an adult, A Moose member will escort them if aparent is unavailable. After compilation of theirtraining, students are required to give 3 kids talks.Topics for their talks range from stranger danger, thedangers of alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc. After therequired talks, each student is given a $100.00savings bond. Talks are judged by a Youth Awareness
Committee. The winners receive an all expense paid trip to the International Congress, where they will compete for scholarships from $1,000 to $12,000. This program may beused for community service hours, a requirement for high school graduation. This is anawesome program, It would be great to send a student from our community. EscondidoLodge would be proud to sponsor a student representative. For more information, pleasetalk to Harvey or Shirley Higgins.
