Sec on Chair Update
Dear Quality Colleagues,
Well, first month of 2016 is behind us! I am excited to be working with a dynamic Leadership Team and I would like to thank them for their countless hours volunteered, significant contribu ons and dedica on that make our ASQ Sec on one of the best in the world.
Ned Schneider, our Programs Chair jumped to a really big start on the year. He has a plan of at least doubling the number of seminars offered this year and bringing more opportuni es and valuable topics for all of us to enjoy and learn from. Please look at our upcoming events on this
newsle er or in our website to help you plan and a end some of these great opportuni es. The topics include leadership, GMP, changes to 13485, data analysis, all of them thought by some of the best speakers in our area. Ned also orchestrates our monthly dinner mee ngs, which despite the disrup on from our typical second Tuesday of the month to Mondays, 102 a endees s ll came to the January mee ng. Our next dinner mee ng will be on Monday February the 8th. The lineup is great! I am personally having a hard me deciding what clinic to a end between change management and the normality in data from two great speakers. The dinner presenta on is the icing on the cake! As a Quality Manager, the Malcolm Baldrige Na onal Quality Award is a topic that I am looking forward to learn about. Well done, Ned!!!
Vinay Goyal, our former Ac ng Membership Chair, has a goal for our sec on to be among the top 3 ASQ sec ons in the world. As of December, our sec on is about 15 new members from the #2 and #3. Our current member count is 1330, and growing. Vatsal Patel, our new Mem‐bership Chair has some pre y big shoes to fill as he takes over Vinay’s dedica on to grow and keep our members happy to be part of our group. If Vatsal does as well as he has done for our dinner registra on desk, we can only get be er.
Mark Lindsey and his team of instructors are teaching CMQ/OE, CSSBB, CQI/CQT, and CBA Refresher Courses. Our Chief Proctor will be ge ng ready for the March 5th cer ficate tes ng to be held at Alcon Labs. In addi on, I learned that Mark and his group provide sup‐port to companies that have special training needs. This is a great way to help our business community, their employees and ASQ members. This month they will help an employer with 2 CQIA courses that will reach 40 students! Collec vely, our Educa on Commi ee is reaching 109 people and enhancing their knowledge this month!! Way to go Mark and Team! That’s Awesome!
It is me to apply for our sec on’s Gene Underwood Scholarship once again. If you are a full me student or know a full me student in the Quality field and would like to find out more
informa on, please keep an eye for the informa on in our newsle er, website or email Mark Lindsey to get the details and an applica on. This is a great opportunity to get some financial aid for your studies…don’t miss it!!
If you are interested in becoming part of our team of volunteers, please email us at your con‐venience.

What Can Our ASQ Sec on 0701
Do For You??
Section 0701 Senior Member Participates in CSSBB Exam Workshop
by James (Jim) Eyster
In September of 2015, James (Jim) Eyster from the Orange County, CA, Sec on 0701 was invited to ASQ Headquar‐ters in Milwaukee, WI, to be part of a review team for the 2016 Six Sigma Black Belt cer fica on exam workshop in late October. The workshop was the final stage before approval and publica on of the cer fica on materials. 12 individuals from across North America were chosen for this unique opportunity.
Jim has stated that it was an honor to be selected from many well qualified ASQ members and felt privileged to be a part of this group of Quality professionals. “I found the me spent in session really s mula ng and challeng‐ing to think through the ques ons and answers of the dra exam and to validate references suppor ng the pro‐fessional knowledge assessment. The camaraderie was refreshing as well.”
Over the course of two days the full examina on was cov‐ered, discussion took place to se le any disagreement amongst the team members to provide clarifica on basis for exam answers, and consensus vo ng occurred. Eyster expressed, “At mes it was intense. At the end of the day everyone was mentally exhausted. It was great!”
The prepara on of materials for every cer fica on exam has a workshop to either design the ques ons and an‐swers, to review the dra , or to finalize the exam before publica on. Every member of ASQ has the poten al to be a part of these ac vi es. Every cer fica on earned dur‐ing one’s career increases the opportunity to be a part of a workshop. If an invita on shows up one day in your email, take it! It is an experience that will not be soon forgo en.

CLINIC # 2
Change Management
Presented by: C.G.Mistry
It is o en said in quality circles that CHANGE is the only constant. Whether it is accepted or not, change always takes its own course. Some changes may be beneficial whereas some may be disastrous. Its outcome being unknown, change is perceived as a threat on cur‐rent situa on of business, work prac ces or other ac vi es. Affect‐ed personnel feel threatened with change as it may cost them their posi on. Business management may be apprehensive about the financial burden and the outcome of the change. The key is to un‐derstand that change is necessary and its poten al outcome for affected personnel and business.
By a ending this clinic presenta on, you will have an understanding of the need for change and then carefully execu ng it. It will explain how to be not afraid of change. It will reflect successfully on Manag‐ing and leading change.
