Preparing Lessons
• Pick Discussion Activities from Reading and Conversation 1st
• Then you can select which English activities and vocabulary to teach
• Pick one more activity then you think you will need
• Each activity has B,I or A listed by the title-these represent what level of student– Pick the letter that represents your class
![Page 21: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/21.jpg)
21
The Lesson Plan
This is an excellent tool to help you plan your lessons
• List activities/discussions
• Materials needed
• What vocabulary you will teach
![Page 22: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/22.jpg)
22
Activities
• Look at activities and estimate how long it will take to do
• How many you need to do to fill time
• Add 1 more– This is used as a back-up if one
activity is a flop– Prepared if class goes smoothly and
you have left-over time to fill
![Page 23: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/23.jpg)
23
Icebreaker
• Used to get the class talking
• Very fun
• Fast moving
• Review of previous vocabulary and/or grammar point
![Page 24: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/24.jpg)
24
Vocabulary

![Page 25: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
25
Idiom

• Something the student wants to use
• Use it in a sentence
• Find a similar idiom in their country
• Use it through out the day
![Page 26: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)
26
Grammar
• Very small part of the class
• Use the grammar point as you teach vocabulary
• Be prepared to answer some grammar questions-a general grammar book is a great tool to have in class
![Page 27: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/27.jpg)
27
Writing
• This is a wonderful way for the students to open up to you.
• Given every other day– Giving you a chance to read the
assignments
• Give it as homework or as part of the class– If homework expect the assignment to be
longer in length– In class this will limit what the student writes
![Page 28: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/28.jpg)
28
Reading and Conversation
• The text in the curriculum will vary from the Bible we give the students
• There are transition questions to help tie in the English theme to the Bible story
• Helpful to have one of the students read the Bible story from their own language, so they understand
![Page 29: ESL Training](https://reader035.vdocument.in/reader035/viewer/2022081506/56812cd8550346895d9195b3/html5/thumbnails/29.jpg)
