Regular and Irregular Verbs

• The verbs we have looked at so far are called regular verbs because they follow a regular pattern.

• Verbs that do not follow the regular pattern are called irregular verbs.

The verb estar

• The verb estar (to be) is an irregular verb.

• The yo form doesn’t follow the regular pattern for –ar verbs.

• The tú, Ud./él/ella, and Uds./ellos/ellas forms require accent marks.

• Estar is used to talk about:• How someone feels (ex: ¿Cómo

estás?)• Where someone or something is

located (ex: ¿Dónde está el lápiz?)
