Generally speaking, there are three types of questions

Tag questions are used when the speaker is trying to involve the listener in the conversation. The listener is put in the position of agreeing or disagreeing with the speaker.

They are formed by adding ¿no? or ¿verdad? at the end of a sentence.

NOTE: When the sentence is negative only ¿verdad? should be used. Using ¿no? after another “no” is a no-no.

Examples/ Modelos:Eres de Grand Blanc, ¿no? Eres de Grand Blanc, ¿verdad?

No eres de Saginaw, ¿verdad? No eres perezoso, ¿verdad?

NOTE: You can only use ¿verdad? In the negative sentence.

Yes / No questions can be answered with sí or no.

These questions normally start with the verb.

The subject in Spanish is often after the verb or at the end of the sentence. In other words, you SWITCH the subject and verb.

Modelos:

Q: ¿Lee María un libro en la biblioteca?

Sí, Maria lee un libro en la biblioteca.

Q: ¿Necesita María los libros en la playa?

No, María no necesita los libros en la playa.

NOTE: When a Sí/No question is answered negatively, you need TWO “no”s. One comes at the beginning of the sentence followed by a comma (,),

The third type of question uses question (interrogative) words request information. These questions begin with a question word like qué, dónde, or cuándo, etc.

Modelos: Q: ¿Qué necesita ella?A: Ella necesita un cuaderno.

Q: ¿Cuánto cuesta el cuaderno?A: El cuaderno cuesta noventa pesos.
