success.iv) School Improvement Plan

A. SQE ahead of the game because we are already centered around core competencies. B. Video kids in fall and then spring to have qualitative research showing their learning.C. Shared Article: Education Week, “10 Disruptions That Will Revolutionize Education.”

v) Concerns for parking lot extension area where pedestrians come through as well. Putting signs up for the pedestrians and the cars to know about each other.

vi) Playground: Had a parent concerned about the higher platform on the playground. A. Looked up standards, and playground is within safety standards as long as the wood chips are

within a certain distance.vii)Halloween

A. Firecracker safety info going out in this week’s email. None at the school!B. Kids can come the day of in their costumes. No masks or weapons. Nothing inappropriate (ex.

5. School Nurse ~ Kate O’Conneri) She helps school as a population, not one on one. She will see you anytime, but not reach out. Darnell

Weight works with students with specific diagnosis that need attention.ii) Goals this year: BOK’s coach hired, iGuy/iGirl program at the school.iii) Did Grade 6 immunizations. For other immunizations, running clinics at school every Pro-D Day. Kindie

screening is moved to January.iv) Lice Screenings: Done at the school, but always check!

6. PAC Businessi) Screenagers ~ Christine McLeod/Johanna Proudfoot - Thurs, Nov 2, two screenings: 9am & 6pm

II. Shape of the Day, screening for Gr 5/6 at 9am, parents and students 6-8:30pma. Full circle learning: Kids have a “passport” they stamp for each discussion pod they visit.

They take home this passport, discuss /w parents who sign it, and kids bring this back to school.

b. After screenings = discussion pods /w guests, not panel. More productive conversationsIII. Volunteers needed for evening session: concession, front door. Signup sheet passed around.IV. Need baked goods donated by PAC members, packaged individually.

a. Gd. 5/6 requested to run bake sale. PAC did not approve because using to offset costs.

b. Nesters donated chips and bottled water. Starbucks donated coffee and tea.V. PAC approved to spend up to $100 for babysitters ($20ea, 4-5 required).

Page 2: ESQE PAC Minutes Oct 2017 - …€¦  · Web viewDeVry Poinsettias ~ Johanna Proudfoot. Delivery Date December 1st. Johanna set up website, but can’t run fundraiser. No PAC members

iii) Hot Lunch ~ Julie Miller/Celeste Bickford - Oct 27 (tomorrow) Volunteers always welcome.A. Good to go. Pizza from Panago coming, rice crispy squares good. Volunteers good.

iv) Fruit & Veggie Program ~ Heather Feeney - Fresh To You Fundraiser updateA. Opened fundraiser to Gd. 5/6 French Immersion classes to meet 50 order minimum. Whatever

these kids make, their class gets. B. Number Estimates: Made $2,150. Spent $1,250. Profit $800 minus what Gd. 5/6 kids get. C. Delivery Day: They give you boxes of food, and you sort into bundles. Gd. 5/6 kids to bundle.

v) Holly Arntzen ~ Heather Feeney - Performance/Concert in lieu of Missoula for 2018/19A. Missoula is in April this year. Most likely last year. Requesting Holly Arntzen program instead.

A. Missoula is expensive /w the USD. Not all kids can participate. Large school, so 60 kids is too few.

B. Holly Arntzen a similar program. Music curriculum in school 3 months prior. All kids participate. Kids perform show after 3 months. Costs less than Missoula, but can’t be funded /w gaming grant because it is curricular.

C. Push to invite boys to participate. Not many from this school. Unique to us. Boys are welcome!

vi) Art Cards for Xmas ~ Heather Feeney A. Artcardsbykids.com : Kids color pictures in class. Teachers collect. PAC ships. Company scans

into website. Parents can order cards online. B. Company charges $.75 per scanned artwork, so will need order minimum to cover costs.C. Holiday Cards? Work back from Santa Letter Writing day. Need pictures scanned before then. If

not, then mother’s/father’s day cards in spring.

vii)BOKS ~ Kate O’Conner/Kierstie Billing-CookA. Hired coach who is great. Need 3-4 volunteers each morning as well. Prefer parents over high

school students for this one. No coaching/fitness needed. Just help kids! More volunteers = breakout groups.

viii) Glee Club - Every Friday at Long Recess facilitated by Melissa Braun from S.A.M.A. Going well, but need more boys. PAC pays for this program.

ix) Gaga Ball ~ Julie Miller A. Rose approved game construction.B. Julie has wood donated. Will request parent volunteers to build. With 10 volunteers, need one

day only for construction. Could be a good community building event, especially for dads.

x) DPAC ~ Julie Miller/Celeste Bickford A. Encouraged to review PAC constitution every year.B. Rose: District looking at gender neutral bathrooms.C. Surveys:

A. Big year for kids to get surveyed. Parents will get bombarded by surveys. Please don’t opt out. That information can help us because the surveys show community vulnerabilities. If we have a vulnerable area, we can apply for funding for those areas. Brings community resources.

B. Tests range from 10 minutes, two 45 minutes, some are longer. Not too intrusive to education.

C. EDI tests very important: Attached to zip codes, so helps everyone. Get programs and funding from these surveys. In the past, how we got Mother Goose, Strong Start going. Names are completely anonymous. Teachers get release time to administer surveys.

D. Making Movement Matter:A. Teachers can go online & get resources (20 min. lesson plans, etc). Getting students moving.

Physical literacy. SQE can join this program. Need school advocate to email. They come into school and do a training. Small financial commitment, then website access.

E. Long Term School Infrastructure A. Expect portables before long term solution. B. Rose: District closely watching our growth. Ministry will not build schools unless there is

absolutely no space. After Late French Immersion goes, we will stabilize. Need to show that we will have lost Kindies more than just this year. We’ve gone down quite a bit in the upper intermediate. Didn’t need the portable this year, except for student prep time.

D. Key is getting creative with how we design learning environments for our kids. Not about classrooms. Free flowing.

xi) Santa’s Workshop ~ Roslyn Semjanovs/Megan EllisA. Date: December 12th. Event made on Facebook.B. Prior to Workshop: Classes write labels and collect money before coming. Primary kids get index

cards. Intermediate kids get mailing labels.C. Youngest kids going in first this year.D. Need volunteers night before (sorting) & day of (guiding kids/wrapping). Food/coffee for

volunteers.E. Flow: Make U around room – Labels, pick presents, wrap, photo booth, exit.F. Décor: envision inflatable props, trees, Santa, photo booth, lots of Christmas! G. Photo Booth: Pennie will take pictures on stage. All decorated out! Good spot for kids to wait.

xii)Popcorn Fundraisers ~ Pennie ClarkeA. Popcorn Day: Made $315 last time. Always 1st Tuesday of each month. Next time, will collect $$

on Monday to make the day of more smooth. B. Popcorn/Movie Night: Pennie will go over calendar /w Rose tomorrow for a date. Preferably in

volunteered, so gave fundraiser to Gd. 5/6 kids to run. They can collect the profit also.

xiv) Nester Cards ~ How can we increase sales of this ‘No-Brainer’ fundraiser?A. What is it? School gets 10% of $$ spent when customers use school’s cards.B. Ideas to increase sales:

A. Contest: Every $50 spent, gets name put in drawing. End of each month, name is drawn. Make a big deal! November contest. Can do a big video when name is drawn and put on Facebook.

B. Post out all Grocer fundraisers: Nester’s (10% back cards), Save-Ons (Can buy cards in store), YIG ($20 gift card for $5,000 in receipts).

C. Christine: Look at the process, make it easy for families to get cards. A. Pre-order a month ahead, Paypal, square reader, direct deposit, etc.B. Post results. Target this month is $$. Last year we made $$. Then post results.C. Best results = cards at EVERY PAC & school event.D. Cards can help /w budgeting because you’ve already pre-bought what you’re spending.

xv)iGirl/iGuy - Free To Be Me ~ Workshop/Instruction for intermediate students – Christine McLeodA. PAC APPROVED: $1,900 in funds for workshop. Kate O’Conner & Christine McLeod securing grant

$$. Next PAC meeting, will plan for iGuy iGirl program at school. B. Not meant to replace curricular sex ed. Program would run early 2018.C. Handout given comparing iGirl/iGuy & Free to Be programs.D. Free to Be: less expensive, but can’t fund /w grants. Only Gd. 6 students. Body image only.E. iGuy/iGirl: More expensive, but some covered by grants. Requesting $1,900 from PAC.

Recommended program. Facilitators more experienced/qualified. Includes relationships, cyber bullying, self-image, etc.
