Lack of Leisure Time and Stress on Young People
Nowadays, men’s leisure time have decreased and stress have increased
all over the world, especially for young people. Young people all over the
world are now fighting for leisure time to enjoy their youth but sadly, most of
them failed in the battle and in addition to that, they gain more stress. There
are few things that caused these things to happened like their characteristic,
their parents’ influence and even academic pressure.
Characteristic really affect the level of leisure time and stress of people,
especially young people. Young people lack of experience and tend to just go
with whatever knowledge they learnt from high school thus, they don’t
manage their time properly and in return, they usually face problems, worry,
embarrassment, etc. (on stress caused by poor time management (“Time
Management And Stress: You Have The Power To Ease The Stress,” 2007)).
Next, self-esteem, having low self-esteem will limit you from being able to do
many things like having less friends than others that will hold any help and
good things to reach you and give you problems (on stress caused by low
self-esteem (“When Low Self Esteem Is The Real Cause Of Stress,” 2012)).
In addition, having bad habits like doing things slowly, leaving works
unsolved, delaying works, doing last minute works, irregular and unhealthy
food habits, showing and throwing temper/anger, lack of exercise, etc. will
also contribute to the problem (on stress caused by bad habits (“10 Bad
Habits That Increase Stress Levels,” 2013)). Finally, all of these will lead to
the decreased of leisure time and the increased of stress.
Next is parents’ influence. Children usually get influence by their parents’
mindset, and thus often times parents’ high expectation like hoping their
children to get straight A influenced their children and causes them to have
the desire to make their parents proud of them and this will make them to
work/study harder even though sometimes their parents’ expectations are just
way too high (on the effects that parents’ expectations have on the behavior
of their children (“Explain the effects that parents' expectations have on the
behavior of their children.?,” 2008)). Moreover, parents will not stop by just
having high expectation for their children, they will also expect their children to
be success in life and having everything like all kinds of cars a man can
dream of and all of these is the cause of their children’s little leisure time and
more stress.
After that, the other reason for this problem is academic pressure. One the
biggest reason is examination (Abouserie, 1994), examination will put much
pressure on students and cut most of their time for study, too many things to
do and to learn for their mathematic examination would stressed them out and
of course steal their leisure time away (Abouserie, 1994). Not to mention the
examination results where it is also one of the biggest contributor to the
problem (Abouserie, 1994), if a student gets a C for his examination papers
after he put a lot of effort into it, he will receive a day full of stress. And so, all
of this will brings about a little leisure time and more stress for young people.
In a nut shell, having very little of leisure time and are under a lot of
pressure, are actually caused by our own characteristic, parents’ influence
and academic pressure. One must know and understand these reasons well
to resist the lack of leisure time and having a lot of stress in his/her life, they
must know how to change and have a good habit, don’t be too shy, manage
their time well so that they have time for study as well as time for play, study
hard and serious, enjoy their leisure time, prioritize important things, etc.
