Essential Company Leadership TraitsSteven McGugan
Specificity
Employees want to be told exact what they need to do
and exactly what is expected from them. Vagueness will
only confuse employees and make them feel uncertain as to what needs to be done.
Empowerment
Employees want the ability and confidence to make
decisions for themselves. They want to learn from their own failures as they become more and more independent in the
company.
Vulnerability
Leaders should not act like they have all the answers. Sometimes they don’t. A
leader who is upfront about where there might be room for
improvement easies up any tension between the boss/co-
worker relationship.
Honesty
Many leaders tend to hold back the entire truth. This is
disingenuous and most employees can see right
through this. A leader needs to be transparent and
trustworthy to develop a proper co-working
environment.
Accountability
Protecting their employees reputations while putting
theres on the line is essential to becoming a good leader in the corporate environment. If
a leader takes blame for their employees mistakes,
then the employees will want to do the same for them.
Respect
Respect is an emotional sentiment that is not easily
forgotten. If a leader respects and values their
employees, this will reverberate and shine. Respect is an essential
quality that takes time to earn.
Authenticity An authentic leader is not coming
into the office in “work-mode.” They are being themselves and
simply working hard. Consistency goes along with authenticity as employees want their leaders to stay consistent during the rough
times so that they can look to them for guidance and
leadership.
