The Luxury HandbagsEveryone Dreams to Own:
The Matriarchs Of The Luxury Handbag WorldLouis Vuitton Speedy, Chanel 2.55, Hermès Birkin -- arguably tops the most luxurious ones in the handbag world.
Where the 'It' tote was declared dead by a few, these bag designs have survived the test of time – and continuously being sought, if not dreamt of by most women. In that respect, let’s find out more.
Here, we’ve listed some of the most influential bags ever created and we wanted to pay homage to the brilliance of them. To top the list of iconic bags ever created are; Hermès Birkin dates back as far as 1892, Louis Vuitton Speedy in 1933, and Chanel 2.55 in February 1955.
Admittedly, understanding the price tag on each of these bags was a challenge to get past. A lot of women probably don't envisage ever owning one of these luxury purses, but at least now, we can better enjoy the lasting fascination around these fashions.
LOUIS VUITTON SPEEDYOn first glance, Louis Vuitton Speedy, is a basic-looking handbag. It is rounded in shape with minimal inner pocketing, double catch handles, and leather trim. It has a quiet elegant shape with coated canvas for both lightweight and durability. However, the actual attractiveness is in the crafts-manship of these handbags. It features cowhide leather trim and brass hardware with hand sewn seams. It is both lightweight and durable and exudes a quiet elegant silhouette.
Needless to say, the bag's longevity should definitely be due, in part, to the Monogram. Adding to the LV symbol, blossoms, and quatrefoils, the iconic design was borrowed from a trend during the Victorian era where using Oriental-styled design is a trend.
The very first Speedy 30 design was released in 1933. It's available in many of sizes in 25-40 together with the number referring to the bag's length, as well as in a number of layouts with the Monogram and Damier Canvas being the most well-known.
Interestingly, the Damier Canvas pattern comprises word-ing that translates into "L. Vuitton registered signature" Designed by Mr. Vuitton himself to discontinue his creations being reproduced. The newest is now amongst the world's most recognised, as well as the most counter-feited!
Maybe the most famous images of the Speedy are people of the 25's introduction in 1965 on Audrey Hepburn's arm. She had requested the smaller size for ordinary use, and collectively with the 30, it is still the sought after size.
The Louis Vuitton Speedy is the anti-'It' tote -- absolutely refined...low-key on initial glance yet its notoriety guaran-tees a place on any all-time record.
Chanel 2.55Having debuted first in 1929, it had been refined further and released as the 2.55 on February 1955. A bag with a shoulder strap was rather the radical concept in fashion circles at that moment.
It is believed Ms. Chanel took inspiration from larger satchel-type bags used by army personnel to make a sensible alternative for women who no longer wished to hand-carry their luggage anywhere.
Rectangular in shape, with minimal internal pocketing, the bag's key feature is the threaded chain and leather shoulder strap. The body of the bag is quilted lambskin or caviar leather, available in 3 different sizes with gold or silver plated hardware.
The tote is a substance tribute of sorts to Coco's early encounters. The burgun-dy coloured lining is exactly the exact same color as the convent uniform colour Coco wore as a woman. The diamond quilting design was inspired by a number of items: cushions Coco needed in her Paris flat, jockeys' riding coats and stained glass windows of this Aubazine Abbey. The chain detail itself play-fully borrows from the key chains used by caretakers of this Aubazine Convent where Chanel dwelt after losing both parents.
The 2.55 continues to evolve ever so subtly today, with new colours and design variants introduced every year. The R&D that goes into each new set is extreme, with a pile of prototypes handmade prior to any capture the green light.
The leather for every bag is meticulously measured, cut, stitched and finished
-- however most of the true manufacturing time is spent on meeting. Supports
are inserted to give each bag that identifying structure, while care is taken with
the lining and internal of each 2.55 to make sure every last detail feels as luxe
as the outside. Each bag is quilted using machines especially developed by
Chanel, with the logo work, hardware and shoulder strap added in the final
stages. It's interesting to note that every bag's 'make' includes 180 procedures
Coco Chanel once said 'simplicity is the keynote of true elegance.' Her iconic
2.55 handbag is this statement personified. It's totally the little black dress of
this luxury handbag world and won't ever go out of style (funny side note --
Coco Chanel is also credited with designing the original little black gown).
And lastly...in which other 'It' totes have come and gone, the Birkin is truly in a
category of its own. Until very recently, these totes boasted the longest waiting
list of any handbag in history -- up to six years. This bag practically invented
the handbag waiting list.
Hermès BirkinThe inspiration for the iconic Hermès Birkin dates back into the Haut à Cour-roies (frequently referred to as the HAC) bag, a design designed in 1892 for carrying saddlery and riding equipment. The very initial Birkin was not made until 1984 however -- three years following a chance meeting between the tote's namesake, celebrity Jane Birkin, and also the afterward Hermès Chair-man and Artistic Director, Jean-Louis Dumas.
The narrative goes Mr Dumas was inspired to design a purse for the actress after the group struck a carry dialog of types on a 1981 airplane flight.
The Birkin is available in various lengths -- from 25 cm around 55cm. It's a box-type shape, crisp in proportion with twin grab handles and feature closure complete with a lock and key.
Concerning leather, colour and hardware customers can select from many options. Leathers such as calfskin, ostrich, crocodile and even lizard are available in countless colours and every bag is lined with goatskin.
You can even take your choice between various precious metals to your bag's components, with palladium and gold being the hottest. Authentic Hermès hardware will always be stamped with an 'H'. At length, Hermès' signature saddle stitching ensures that classic finish. Every Birkin is com-pletely handmade in France, with up to 48 working hours on a single bag by one of Hermès' expert artisans.
Today however, there's absolutely no such waiting list for the Birkin. As yet another casualty of this worldwide financial crisis, only time will tell wheth-er the bag that has transcended time and many a fad could sustain its lust element.
I guess as a consequence of sorts, I have come from a place of' those totes are repellent' to respecting each design for its timeless quality and resilience in an ever-changing market. Each bag remains largely unchanged from the day it had been released until today.
C'mon all you haters out there... there is something special about that and it is a rarity in the design world today.
