The Essex Developers Group (EDG) aims to eliminate barriers to house building and maximise commercial opportunities by getting the public and private sectors working together. Mark Curle, Chairman of the EDG and Commercial Director at Galliford Try Partnerships, which has its regional base in Chelmsford, said: “The new group will lead on bringing forward the vision set out in the Government’s Housing White Paper to build a new and positive mind- set to house building. “While the key aim is to accelerate house building, this has to be done in a sustainable way that meets local needs. What we need is a good mix of quality housing in the right locations, which is supported by the necessary infrastructure.” EDG includes developers, contractors, consultants, local housing companies, housing associations, Essex County Council and borough, city, district and unitary authorities. EDG members will seek to work with the Government, including the housing minister, Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) and South East Local Enterprise Partnership (SELEP) to accelerate housing delivery, including the supply of much needed affordable homes. The group also intends to encourage and support smaller house builders. EDG has excellent links and a history of positive working with Essex Housing and Planning Groups - Essex Planning Officers Association and Essex Housing Officers Group. It also forms part of a wider collaboration of developer groups which currently exist in the South East Local Enterprise Partnership area of Kent and East Sussex. David Hill, Director of Strategic Commissioning and Policy (Place) at Essex County Council, said: “The formation of the EDG is vital to the county’s future growth and prosperity. The group will work with key planning and housing officers across the county to promote joint ambition and collaboration, which means we can share best practice, ensure infrastructure is aligned with housing growth, and speak with a much stronger voice directly with government.” Updated: 1 February 2018

Essex DevelopersGroupMEMBERS DIRECTORY 2017

Developers, contractors, housing associations and council planning experts across Essex have joined forces to help improve housing growth in the county.

The Essex Developers Group (EDG) aims to eliminate barriers to house building and maximise commercial opportunities by getting the public and private sectors working together.

Mark Curle, Chairman of the EDG and Commercial Director at Galliford Try Partnerships, which has its regional base in Chelmsford, said: “The new group will lead on bringing forward the vision set out in the Government’s Housing White Paper to build a new and positive mind-set to house building.

“While the key aim is to accelerate house building, this has to be done in a sustainable way that meets local needs. What we need is a good mix of quality housing in the right locations, which is supported by the necessary infrastructure.”

EDG includes developers, contractors, consultants, local housing companies, housing associations, Essex County Council and borough, city, district and unitary authorities.

The group will work with key planning and housing officers across the county to promote joint ambition and collaboration, which means we can share best practice, ensure infrastructure is aligned with housing growth, and speak with a much stronger voice directly with government.”

♦ Access to key officers to promote joint working at local authority and county level and opportunity to influence the funding profile and marketing of Essex.

♦ Quarterly meetings, providing an excellent opportunity for networking and presentations on growth agenda, infrastructure and strategic improvements, skills, planning, the environment, sustainability and design matters.

♦ The opportunity to learn from other developers’ experiences and exchanging useful contacts.

♦ Working and responding as a group to build the Essex Developers Group into a pro-active, well organised and trusted body that can really make a difference to the way the Essex business and public community responds to housing challenges.

♦ Members have the opportunity to discuss strategic issues and lobby face to face major public sector organisations such as Essex County Council, local district councils, and central government agencies - i.e. the Highways Agency and the Environment Agency.

♦ Receive regular professionally prepared planning, infrastructure, skill and highways updates and access to research resources including bespoke research for members.
